THQ set to Release Cars 2: The Video Game in 3D for the PS3….

Cars 2 is set to hit theaters this summer, and as usual for just about any animated feature, a videogame has been announced to coincide with the movie’s release. Cars 2 is being released by THQ and will launch on all major consoles, but the most interesting part of this release is news that the Playstation 3 version will be made with full 3D TV compatibility. After de Blob 2 also received such treatment with it’s release, it isn’t too surprising that this move was made with such a big brand such as Cars. The 3D features will not just be for the actual combat-racing gameplay, but will even be worked into all menu interfaces as well.

THQ have also released an official statement about the PS3 version’s new visual treatment today, straight from the development team over at Avalanche Software:

“The advancement of 3D technology will allow us to immerse the player into the Cars 2 game environment in a whole new way,” said John Blackburn, vice president and general manager of Avalanche Software, developer of Cars 2. “The 3D effects will ratchet up gameplay in ways that will have fans’ hearts pounding when they embark on dangerous spy missions, while our innovative multiplayer with four simultaneous 3D ports will bring a whole new dimension to PS3™ gaming.”

Some of you might be laughing at the idea of another Cars title period, but who here can say that they didn’t grow up playing something like Animaniacs, Toy Story, or Power Rangers? The 3D is a nice add-on and I think it will work well with this title, but hopefully the gimmick won’t outweigh the gameplay in the longrun as no matter what age, any gamer whether they be casual or hardcore, deserves a polished experience.

Cars 2: The videogame also will feature the same spy-themed plot as the movie and will launch everywhere on June 23rd.

MonkeyPaw Cooking up BurgerTime HD this Summer…

Not too long ago, we brought you some news about an ESRB rating which came forth for BurgerTime HD. Today all you hardcore Peter Pepper fans can celebrate as the studio has finally announced this reboot officially and shed some light on what players can expect. BurgerTime HD will be coming to across all major console platforms this summer on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, and PC in digital format. My main question I had was just how this title would work and how true to the original it would actually be. Thankfully it looks like the core mechanics of bun dropping and running from classic enemies such as Mr. Hot Dog will all remain the same, but with a completely new coat of paint as well as some new elements of gameplay that will launch this classic into the present.

Players will travel through 40 cylindrical 3D levels with 4 different bosses that must be dealt with as they rush to safely create these giant burgers. Four-player local and online play have also been added to give some nice competition with other chefs as you compete in intense patty building mayhem. Elements such as DLC ,leaderboards, chat, achievements and trophies have also been added in to bring this oldie more up to date with the times as well.

MonkeyPaw also released the first set of screenshots (which you can view below), and I am really liking what I am seeing so far. I never really thought about what BurgerTime would look like if we would have ever seen a brand new incarnation, but even though it looks like a brand new title, it still has the same BurgerTime appearance that many gamers grew up with and have seen make appearances on several retro collections in years past. This summer marks the release for this evolution to the series and as soon as an official date comes forth, we will be sure to let you know.

The Sims 3 Launches for the 3DS in Australia…

For those who have been patiently waiting for the 3DS down under, the system is now available in all retailers nation-wide in Australia. With the 3DS launch comes a handful of ports and remakes including The Sims 3. I am sure many of you have played the third installment for the franchise by now in one way or another as it has graced nearly every platform, but EA have now got the 3DS covered with in the launch of the console with The Sims 3.

EA released this statement about this next incarnation of their popular title:

“We’ve created a game for the Nintendo 3DS platform that includes everything players love about The Sims like build and buy mode, Create a Sim and more in order for them to have the richest experience possible in a 3D environment,” said Scott Evans, General Manager of The Sims Studio. “The Nintendo 3DS system is a highly anticipated launch for players across the globe, and we’re ecstatic that The Sims 3 will be one of the first games available for people to play.”

I have heard that this version is a bit more streamlined, but either way as big as the franchise has become, it is nice for 3DS owners to have a choice to create their sim on the new handheld. I still need to get this version myself as I haven’t burned down a house yet on the 3DS and that really needs to change. You can pick up The Sims 3 today everywhere and for you New Zealand residents out there, hang tight as you will be seeing a release tomorrow on April 1st.

Pac-Man and Galaga Dimensions for 3DS gets a couple more games for its collection

Pac-Man and Galaga Dimensions may appear to just be a collection of old titles placed into one package and sold with 3D capabilities to take advantage of the 3DS’ name sake. Well… that is exactly what it is but either way it appears that collection just got a little bit bigger. Because the title will now also contain Galaga 3D Impact as well as Pac-Man Tilt.

Now Galaga 3D Impact will place players in the cockpit of a ship attached to an on-rails shooter where players will have to move their system around physically to adjust their aim. Pac-Man Tilt, in an obvious naming, involves controlling the yellow sphere man in a 2D side-scrolling game where players have to tilting the 3DS in the direction they want him to move, enemies will be in the way and power pellets will be required to defeat them. Now all of this tilting may end up interfering with the 3D or it may not, but that is yet to be seen. The title will find itself on U.S. shores some point this summer while Australia will be getting it in the winter of this year.

Darkness 2 – Developer Interview video

Many developers take what isn’t broken and barely add on too it just to make more money. The developers of Darkness 2 seem to be taking the concept of Darkness and completely running with it, trying to make it ten times more fun. I am not so sure about the art style, but we will just have to wait and see.

Check out the developer interview below, but be warned there are slight spoilers from the first. So if you haven’t played the first I wouldn’t watch the video; but then again if you haven’t played the first why are you even interested in the second?

DiRT 3 New Trailer Revealed

The new trailer for the upcoming game from codemasters, DiRT 3, is about a more classic ‘Group B’ series of cars. The cars shown in the gameplay trailer show us racing classics such as ‘Audio Sport quattro Rallye and Lancia Delta S4’, classics that any rally car enthusiast should recognise, racing across arid badlands and wooden forests.

Watch classic rally vehicles from a time where the rules were light, the regulations and restrictions on car development were near non-existant and the races were intense. These classic vehicles included greats, such as the Ford RS200, MG Metro 6R4 and Peugeot 205 T16 Evo 2. Observe how they traverse intense environments, ranging from tarmac to snow.

“The legendary Group B cars are some of the most sophisticated rally cars ever built,” said Paul Coleman, Senior Games Designer on DiRT 3. “Their raw power and unbridled speed make them a real challenge. They definitely separate the men from the boys.”

The most feature intensive DiRT game to date is set for a release on the 24th of May, 2011 for PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 devices.

The man most well known for the Metal Gear franchise has got himself a promotion.  Konami has posted its executive appointments for each company and one Mr. Hideo Kojima will be vice president and executive officer of Konami Digital Entertainment effective of April 1st of this year. Also joining Kojima in that same roll is the man behind the Pro Evolution Soccer series, Shinji Enomoto.

There seem to be a lot of changes a brewing over at Konami. It seems mostly likely due to the acquisition of Hudson Soft earlier this year. Hopefully some good will come out of this corporate restructuring. We have faith in you Kojima.

Dynasty Warriors 7 getting free DLC containing original Japanese voices

Dynasty-Warriors-7-Action-Shots-10

How exactly does a woman as small as that manage to lift that giant wrecking ball of a weapon? Well its Dynasty Warriors so that’s enough explanation there. Besides super strong women, Dynasty Warriors 7 is going to be getting a handful of new features that are being released as free DLC from Tecmo Koei. Fans of the series had been clamoring for the original Japanese voice track to be available in the game and the company has obliged. Also free in the package will be a bunch of extra costumes for the fighters in the game.

Don’t think that it will be all free however, TK also stated that there would be paid DLC in the future, like new areas to fight and weaponry. But the addition of the Japanese voice cast is certainly a great choice by Tecmo Koei. Fans of games brought over from Japan often prefer the original Japanese voices compared to the English voice cast that takes over. Sure this means you have to read the subtitles but to each their own.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Reverie DLC delayed for Xbox 360

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow was released last year but Konami has continued to support the game through DLC and last week PlayStation 3 owners had the ability to start buying the Reverie DLC content with Xbox 360 users being promised that the they would be able to get their download-on this week. Unfortunately that won’t be the case.

In a post on the Castlevania Facebook page they have posted a notification and explanation saying that due to a last minute problem on the 360 version of the game that they would not be able to get the game content out this week. They are working with Microsoft to fix it and are hoping it will be fixed quickly. Unfortunately there was no information given as to what the problem was, leaving speculation as to whether it was something on Konami’s end or on Microsoft’s.

Dissidia iPhone app does AR

One of the most impressive features of the Nintendo 3DS is its AR mode. AR mode allows you to place cards on a surface and with your camera make them appear as if they are apart of the background. Well Nintendo your not the only one who can do it. Square-Enix has an app available on the App Store called Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy AR.

All you have to do is go to the app’s official website and print a card. Then set the card on a table or any surface and take a photo with the card and its just like they are actually there or something like that. Another added bonus is there is a model viewer which will allow you to see various character models from the game and add them to your photos. The 4 characters you get to bring to life are The Warrior of Light from Final Fantasy, Terra from Final Fantasy 6, Cloud from Final Fantasy 7, and Lightning from Final Fantasy 13. You can download this on the App Store now for $4.99 (US) & $5.99 (AU) BUY HERE
