PS Vita games to have varied prices

0

Whenever a new console, or console generation, is created there is usually a standard price for games at will be set. For most PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 games, they sit at $59.99 in North America, Wii usually at $49.99 and 3DS titles on $39.99. However it appears that the PlayStation Vita titles won’t be using that standard fixed pricing model, instead they will use a range of different prices to combat people purchasing cheaper alternatives.

SCEE CEO Jim Ryan spoke with GI.Biz saying “I think it would be safe to assume we will take a more tailored approach than perhaps we’ve done in the past. It’s our challenge to ensure that the gaming experience that we provide is closer to that TV console experience than it is to your 69p thing that you’ve downloaded on your iPhone. If we do that and we provide great value to the consumer on games like Uncharted, I think the possibility to sustain historic console type price points is there.”

Of course titles that will follow this rule will likely only be Sony published versions, as 3rd party games can of course set their own prices. Still this is an amazing idea and one that is actually quite intelligent in this day and age of cheaper game availability.

Resident Evil: Revelations to be bundled with Circle Pad Pro in Europe

While Capcom USA has denied that they will be releasing any type of bundle for the Circle Pad Pro with their upcoming zombie game Resident Evil: Revelations, Capcom Europe has a very different plan in mind. In fact, when Resident Evil: Revelations is released in Europe on January 27th they will be releasing the game itself, but also the game bundled with the Circle Pad Pro.

Currently they haven’t said what the price would be for the bundle, but this is the first time that any company has mentioned a release date for the 3DS attachment outside of Japan. Capcom USA has shown the circle pad pro off a number of times however so we can expect some news in the future before Revelations release date at least. Then you too can make your 3DS so awkward to carry around it’ll be unjustifiable as a portable gaming device!

Birds of Steel takes off with a website

Konami’s latest ip rips gamers off their feet and flings them into a cockpit. Birds of Steel is a flight simulator primarily focusing on some of the biggest battles of World War II, including Pearl Harbour and the battle of Midway. Alongside the 20 historical missions are a selection of fictitious battles, with potential pilots able to pick and choose from over 100 famous planes from both the axis and allied forces.

It aims to toe the line between full combat simulator and accessible for all by offering a handful of control setups. Players looking for the full flight experience can have control over every aspect of flight, whilst those looking for some more arcade style fly time can jump in with one of the simpler control schemes.

Unusually for a flight simulator, Birds of Steel will be a console only title, coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360 in March 2012. The multiplayer component will be a huge part of the game, with massive multplayer online dog fights as well as co-op missions and campaigns.

The new website for the game has just gone live, and will gradually unveil the full roster of planes in the build up to the release. The game also has it’s own dedicated Facebook page, so head on over to check out some more of the details.

Final Fantasy Type-0 to be released internationally

Many people’s concerns about Final Fantasy Type-0 not being released internationally outside of Japan were more than justified as, despite plenty of news about the Japanese release of the title, no word had been mentioned anywhere of the title being released to the West. All those concerns can be put to rest however as the latest issue of Famitsu reports that the title is indeed being released internationally.

Game director Hajima Tabata revealed in an interview with the magazine that he is working on an international release of Type-0 though does not know when it will be released. The PSP title will likely end up being released after the launch of the Vita which should be interesting. Also Tabata revealed in the interview that he hopes to make a sequel, as Andriasang reports that he would like to call it Type-1 and see his title on consoles.

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes launches a new trailer and website

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes is looking to bring Sherlock and his invesigations to the big time. In a massive step up for the series of adventure games – there have been five previous releases across various platforms – a whole new engine has been used to bring Holme’s London to life, and the detective himself is looking better than ever thanks to motion capture technology.

The website for the game has just gone live, and collects together all of the screenshots, videos and developer info for the game. Along with the site comes a new teaser trailer narrated by the usually steadfast and loyal Dr Watson. Forced to question Holmes’ innocence in a murder case, Watson finds himself doubting their entire past relationship – has Holmes been lying to him for years?

It’s an interesting and dark new take on one of the most iconic partnerships in literature, and with it’s higher than ever production values The Testament of Sherlock Holmes could prove a rather intriguing entry in the gaming history of the Baker Street sleuth. The game is due for release on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, and should become available in early 2012.

GamePro magazine and website to be shut down

A piece of gaming history is about to be distinguished. I’m talking of course about GamePro, the gaming magazine publisher and website have been struggling over the past few years and had even shifted to a quarterly publication schedule in a way to save some money. However it appears that that won’t be the case at all, as the very first issue of the quarterly releases has stated that the company is going to be closing down and that that issue is the last one ever.

GamePro first began as a monthly magazine back in 1989 and used to be one of the largest in the business. The website itself is only going to be up until December 5th and will redirect to PC World after it is shut down. IndustryGamers reports that layoffs are already underway, and we wish these workers the best in their future endeavors.

PlayStation 3 firmware update reaches 4.00; prepares for PS Vita

Its finally that time of the consoles lifetime, when they reached their update that will round out the version of firmware users are using at the moment. Maybe it’ll last a couple days before they release 4.01? Regardless, Sony has released the next firmware update for the PlayStation 3 which will place it on firmware 4.00 and is, of course, mandatory.

The update will help set up your PlayStation 3 to interface with the PlayStation Vita, including the ability to copy games, save data and other media back and forth between the PS Vita and PS3. Too bad no one in most parts of the world will even have a chance to make use of the update until the Vita is released next year, but at least it is being done now not a few months after the Vita is released.

Fuego’s River Adventures evolve iPad to motion control

Who says you need extra technology to make a fool of yourself by doing funny things by yourself? Crimson Apps have released a new game, Fuego’s River Adventures, which doesn’t rely in touch controls. Nope, instead it uses real-time smart detection and processing technology to connect players to the game using the front camera of the iPad. Players motions control the adventurer Fuego by jumping, mobbing and running side-to-side.

Not only does it analyse captured images and recognizing movement change, it also saves some candid shots, displaying them at the end of levels, letting players look back on what fools they’ve made of themselves in the game.

Players control Fuego after his plane crashes and he tries to make his way home. They move him along the river, avoiding crocodiles and other obstacles, while collecting food and gold.

Fuego’s River Adventures is certain to be an interesting app, and one that will lead the way in terms of iPad technology. It is definitely worth a look at, even if it isn’t perhaps as sensitive as preferred.

Check out the trailer below!

Fuego’s River Adventures is available on the iPad for the launch sale price of $1.99 – get it HERE

How To Hate Everything People Love

2

I’m not sure whether it is the damaged fan blowing an irritating gust of air at me at inconsistent intervals, or if it’s the fact that my Wii is covered in a fine layer of dust that makes my allergies flare up everything I approach it, or if it’s just the fact that I’m fed up with thing’s just plain ‘sucking’. It’s just the irritations of being surrounded by ever present ‘suckage’.

The internet has shaped itself into the world’s largest shouting contest. With millions of people all scratching at the walls of this big old digital universe we call ‘the net’, just to have their opinion heard. ‘Opinions’ – now there is something thats sucks. Am I right internet inhabitants?

There are those of you who have put up a tent inside of cyberspace and make it your goal to express the hate and anger you feel within you. Your entitled to that, so why am I rambling? Why am I even writing this?

Well it’s quite simple. I’m going to give you pathetic internet trolls a crash course in how to hate everything, become a hermit and then die.

1. The first thing you need to do in order to start hating everything, is to register an account on a website with a username that shows other hatemates that they can not even comapre to your level of badass hatred of all that sucks, such as “SuckingSUCKS69er”.

2. Find out what ‘normal people’ like, then make it your personal mission to stalk every page on the entire internet related to that thing, making sure that anyone who reads said pages knows exactly how much the things they like ‘sucks balls’. Now that is hating like a professional.

3. Begin de-evolution into a being that lives under the bridge known as 4chan, some refer to these creatures as ‘trolls’. Your de-evolution is complete once you have made several dubstep remixes of gay porn and uploaded them to youtube.

4. Isolate yourself from all forms of social encounters in the physical world, because they ‘suck’ and you hate your Uncle Reg.

Congratulations you are now a professional hater, be free my hatemates, there are people out their with opinions just waiting for you to tell them they are wrong and should die a painful death.

This brings me to my point – why all the hate? It seems every time a game comes out that achieves any level of popularity, there is the incredibly vocal trolls with the only goal of derailing and deconstructing the world around them. Does Call of Duty suck? Maybe. But why push hate on those who enjoy the things you do not? Why not allow them to enjoy what they enjoy?

Well it all boils down to the fact that these people need a sense of clarity that a game ‘sucks’. They need to feel as though someone agrees with them. They need to feel important, like they can taint people’s positive opinions.  These are the sad majority who need to hate everything. They have to hate the popular games, the indie games and even themselves. Because it’s their way of expressing their distain for the world they live in.

Should we hate the haters? No they don’t deserve that. Should we ignore them? No they don’t deserve that either. Should we coexist with them. Yes we should. Because we need the balance of love and hate. Games aren’t just about buying something then playing it anymore. The internet has spawned a whole other part of the gaming experience. The part in which you shout out to the masses words of love or words of hate.

And honestly in this modern gaming environment, where we are all connected by the internet, everything just wouldn’t be in it’s right place without a little bit of hate here and there. Express yourself kids, it’s good for you.
