Return to Dead Island with this Ryder White DLC trailer

Deep Silver and Techland recently announced that they were releasing the first piece of Campaign DLC for Dead Island on January 31st on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in North America while those in Europe will have to wait until February 1st and that it would entail the story of Ryder White, a man who anyone who has finished the game will recognize.

Now Deep Silver has released a trailer explaining what the story we will be seeing in the DLC will be about. You have to hand it to the creators, because this trailer looks simply amazing as most of the trailers for the game have been. Those looking to pick up the DLC will be paying 800 MSP or $9.99 depending on the console of choice.

Exclusive Screenshots of Yesterday

Focus Home Interactive offers us a glance of their upcoming adventure title, Yesterday, with some exclusive new screenshots. Shuffling away from previously made game comedies such as “The Next BIG Thing” and their million dollar selling trilogy of “Runaway”, Pendulo Studios presents Yesterday as a dark thriller that will keep you shrouded in mystery.

Amongst three playable characters is one named John Yesterday. John is sent by a billionaire, Henry White, to investigate the happenings of a murderous cult. I have never heard of a happy cult to discover, but I think John will soon find his own life in peril. With clues spread across the world, Yesterday will need to piece the puzzle together while discovering who he really is.

The four screenshots below offer an unique blend of a cartoon splashed on top of reality. If that’s not enough, open up the Yesterday Website for the entire gallery. Be ready to experience this dark thriller in March 2012!

Some major BlazBlue tournament updates

While I still cannot fathom why BlazBlue isn’t being featured at all in the Evo 2012 fighting game tournament, BlazBlue players still have other venues to test their skills as Aksys Games bring some updates on two major BlazBlue tournaments taking place soon.

First off is the BlazBlue Revolution tournament series that will be taking place in Japan, but thanks to Aksys Games and Arc System Works, players in North America will be able to compete for a chance to win a spot at the tournament. Winners of the North American region qualifiers will be flown to Japan by Aksys Games. Full details of the tournament can be found here:

http://blazbluerevolution.com/

While BlazBlue Revolution is set to be the biggest BlazBlue tournament of the year, another tournament will be taking place in Japan this weekend at GODSGARDEN. The event will be re-streamed in English. Details for this tournament are:

Date: January 28th, 2012
Time: Restream starts at 2 AM (EST), actual preliminaries will start at 3 AM (EST).
Hosts: Lord Knight, St1ckBuG
URL: ustream.tv/channel/godsgarden2

Both tournaments will feature the latest entry, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend. Check out my review of the game if you haven’t already.

Puddle Released on XBLA

The physics puzzle platformer, which won in the Student Showcase Division at IGF 2010, was released yesterday on XBLA. It was created by 6 students from the French videogame school EMJMIN, later to be picked up by Neko Entertainment.

Puddle sees you tilting the game world, coaxing the puddle of liquid across the level, avoiding hazards and taking real-world physics into account. You must work with friction and momentum, getting used to each new fluid you are presented with, each with their own unique properties.

Download it now on Xbox LIVE Arcade for 800 Microsoft Points! Puddle is also coming to the Playstation Network on January 31st for $9.99.

Konami announced Rhythm Party for Xbox Live Arcade

Konami have today announced that they will be releasing a brand new downloadable Kinect title for the Xbox Live Arcade called Rhythm Party. The game is designed to use the Kinect sensor in the most simplest of ways, without any unnecessary avatar customisation to weigh down the experience, instead you play as your own silhouette.

Rhythm Party also features some incredibly unique gameplay. Since it is a dance game you would expect over the top and contrived choreography to be the meal of the day. Instead Rhythm Party lets you decide your moves as you hit each rhythm ripple as it appears on screen.

That’s not all Rhythm Party is set to feature hit songs from Lady Gaga, The Village People and none other than the legendary Vanilla Ice. The game is slated for release on the 1st of February.

Madman WAI-CON Acquistions

Earlier today at the Perth WAI-CON convention, Madman Entertainment announced several license acquisitions. The follow titles were announced by Madman at WAI-CON:

  • Digimon Adventure 02
  • Towa no Quon
  • Okami-san and her Seven Companions
  • FREEZING
  • Guilty Crown

It is definitely great news to see new titles being acquired for release in Australia. Unfortunately no details on the releases have been revealed other than that they will be coming soon.

One could say that given Madman’s trend when it comes to streaming in their Madman Screening Room, that Guilty Crown in particular could soon be streamed through the service along with other series from last year already streaming.

What do you think of Madman’s title acquisitions? Let us know in the shoutbox and comments section.

Chuck Series Finale – The Real Happy Ending

“Tell me our story, Chuck”

When I think of what constitutes good television, I often struggle to voice my feelings regarding what makes some shows simply better than others. What is it that makes Breaking Bad so good? What is it that makes The Wire so good? But more importantly, what is it that makes Chuck so good? After watching Chuck’s series finale tonight, I believe that I now understand what it is that makes these series so good – they have soul.

It is that very soul beneath the surface of a series such as Chuck that makes it so very good. It’s the fact that it can move me and make me feel emotions I never knew a grown man such as myself could have. Tonight while watching Chuck’s final two hours, I realised the emotional journey this series had taken me on. Not just for those two hours mind you, but for it’s past five years on the air.

Over five years, I’ve found myself regularly enjoying Chuck, through it’s ups and even it’s downs. I’ve enjoyed this series every bit as much as I have critically acclaimed series such as Breaking Bad and Mad Men. Both shows that many would look upon me with scorn for comparing them to Chuck. But Chuck shares a commonality with series like that, the soul underneath the surface.

Five years ago Chuck began as a plucky comedy about a nerd who is thrust into the world of spies. Tonight it ended not much unlike how it all began. It is still a comedy about a nerd thrust into the world of spies, but over it’s half a decade on air it has become so much more.

The finale featured many callbacks to the series’ past and every callback was earned. Honestly this finale really made me realise how much I love this show. The emotional moments in the finale were all nailed to perfection, Zachary Levi in particular really owned his scene with Yvonne Strahovski in Chuck and Sarah’s dream house. It is moments like that, that solidify this series’ legacy.

While Chuck was always a fun comedy with dramatic elements here and there, it’s entire five year run is ultimately an ode to happiness, friendship, family and most of all – love.

Many wouldn’t consider this necessarily a happy ending for the series, what with Sarah still hazy on remembering who exactly Chuck is to her and unsure of her feelings for the man who she loved in a life now lost. However it was the final moments that ground Chuck’s central relationship; Chuck Bartowski and Sarah Walker were incomplete without one another and with that one magical kiss at the end, there is hope that they will one day complete each other again.

We never see what unfolds after that final kiss, but we are left with the knowledge that all of these characters have life after the cameras fade to black. That is the real happy ending; knowing that even if Chuck ends, these characters we have grown to love and enjoyed hanging out with for the past five years still have adventures and lives ahead of them.

Thanks for five years of laughs, tears, adventures and fun. What more can be said besides: Aces, Charles, You’re Aces.

“Chuck? Kiss me.”

New screenshots for Persona 4: The Golden appear in Famitsu magazine

The recent issue of Famitsu magazine show of some new screens for the upcoming and highly anticipated PlayStation Vita RPG, Persona 4: The Golden. The game is an enhanced port of the original PlayStation 2 release and is set to feature several new features and enhancements.

These latest batch of screens show of bits of the new animated intro, and it looks rather trippy and groovy. The animation is being done by famous anime studio, Mad House, well known for the highly popular Death Note series. The screens also reveal motorbikes, that can be used during the game’s battle mode. Finally, it shows a new Persona evolution for one of the main characters of the game, Yukiko.

Persona 4: The Golden is shaping up to a massive improvement over the original, and it should be a solid Vita RPG when it comes out.

DoDonPachi Blissful Death debut trailer

Cave seems to be going a little crazy with their shooter releases, as they show off yet another new title in their flagship franchise, DoDonPachi. DoDonPachi Blissfull Death is one of three DoDonPachi titles planned for this year, and this one is for the iPhone and iPod Touch handheld devices.

The debut trailer shows of a ton of gameplay footage and from what I can see here, the gameplay looks to be typical DoDonPachi. It looks to have the typical insane bullet hell gameplay, and the trailer even shows off some massive boss battles and bits of the artwork.

DoDonPachi Blissful Death is expected to hit the App Store sometime in February.

Battles throughout time clash in this latest Final Fantasy XIII-2 trailer

There are only a few days until Final Fantasy XIII-2 is released in stores, four to be exact. But that doesn’t mean that Square Enix is going to stop releasing trailers to help sway any indecision you may have left about picking up this title when it is released on January 31st.

Today Square Enix has released the trailer below which is called the “Clash of Time” which shows us various battles including demonstrating some of the monsters you can fight alongside, cinematic actions as well as Lightning and Caius fighting it out. So, if you could pick any monster to fight alongside in FFXIII-2, what would it be? I’d have to say that the Chocobo they show in the video would delight many fans.
