Lvl. 100 Zekrom and Reshiram available for U.S. via Wi-Fi distribution

Don’t want to take all the extra effort to train up a Pokémon to level 100 the old fashioned way? Well The Pokémon Company has decided they would take care of that for you. Starting on March 10th, Pokémon Black and White players in the United States will be able to grab a free Reshiram for White and a Zekrom for Black through the Wi-Fi system.

As you can see above, both of the Pokémon will come at level 100 with the above move set and they will also be holding onto a Dragon Gem, making them all the more powerful. At least once you download one of these guys you’ll be able to breeze through the rest of the game if you have somehow not yet finished it at this point in time.

Medal of Honor Warfighter given debut trailer, coming on October 23

While we’ve been teased before and given minor details about Medal of Honor Warfighter through various unofficial means, EA has made it official today by releasing the debut trailer for the game today. Not only that but this debut trailer has a release date attached to the end of it, stating that the game will be available on October 23 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

The debut trailer can be seen below and features a bit of stealthy action before plenty of people get shot, blown up and all around destroyed. Don’t be confused by the subtitles however, it is meant to be that way.

First year Nintendo 3DS sales double Nintendo DS sales in U.S.

While the Nintendo 3DS may have had a slow start out of the gate when it was released last year, it has quite obviously had quite an upswing over the past few months. So much so in fact that numbers revealed today by Nintendo for the United States. You see, the one year anniversary for the handheld is approaching quickly in this territory and according to Nintendo’s report, the system has sold 4.5 million systems in the U.S. so far.

This number is twice the amount sold for the Nintendo DS when it’s first year only pulled in 2.3 million systems. This is quite a big success for Nintendo as this clearly shows the handhelds staying power. With the handheld in the hands of millions in North America alone and over 15 million sold worldwide, this is a good time for developers to try out the new handheld and give owners some new intriguing titles. You know though, this all had to do with the success of the Pink 3DS seen above…

Resident Evil 6 to feature dialogue options

While things have been a bit quiet about Resident Evil 6 ever since it was revealed weeks ago by Capcom. However it seems the final product will have at least one new feature that has never been included in a Resident Evil title before, and that is the ability to choose dialogue options.

Siliconera is reporting that this week’s Dengeki PlayStation magazine has leaked the information, allowing “seamless” conversations that can change depending on the situation. One of the developers spoke with Dengeki PlayStation and stated that they believed Capcom was going overboard with the new system. This could provide a whole new take on the way story is handled in Resident Evil, which by and far hasn’t been the series’ strong point as far as depth is concerned.

Assassin’s Creed 3 four-player co-op outed by Xbox Live

It is always a problem for a company whenever information is leaked out before they choose to reveal it. Usually this is a mistake from a retailer of some sort, but this time around it is a mistake from the Xbox Live Marketplace itself. For a very brief moment, the listing on the marketplace for Assassin’s Creed 3 listed “Online co-op 2 – 4” alongside the game’s standard “Online multiplayer 2 – 8.”

This listing for co-op has since been removed from the Xbox Live Marketplace but not before it was snagged by Videogamer. Now this information could actually be false, but it could also be true, being the first time a co-op campaign was added into the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

HEIST: The Score Review

Heist: The Score
Developer: N3V Games
Platforms: iPhone 3GS+ (reviewed), iPod Touch 3rd Gen+, iPad, Android.
Release Date: March 2nd, 2012
Price: $0.99 (introductory price; buy now in AppStore, Android Marketplace)

Overview

Heist is an on-rails first-person shooter. You’ll be blasting your way through a bank, taking on guards and cops alike alongside your fellow felons.

Story

You’re a first-time bank robber on your first heist along with Joe, a loudmouth fellow hired gun, and Sal, your fearless leader. He doesn’t say much about the job itself, but the bank is a big one, and should hold plenty of cash for you to pilfer. Once you get in and start the job, however, there are way more guards than expected; maybe they’re guarding something more than money after all…

The story is told through brief cutscenes, fully voiced as well as subtitled, and does a good job of walking you through the numerous phases of the heist.

The story ends on a cliff-hanger, with questions unanswered, leaving it wide open for a sequel; which is good considering the playtime of this game is half an hour to an hour at best.

Gameplay

You start off going through a tutorial, which gives you the basics. You drag across the screen to look around, and touch the fire button on the bottom-right to fire your weapon. If the need arises, in certain positions you can move to an alternative spot, to dodge a thrown grenade or to get a better angle.

You can also switch weapons once you’ve picked up some, take cover behind pillars or tables, and shoot small gold crates to pick up extra ammo as you battle your way through the building. These aren’t made so obvious in the tutorial, though, and you’re left to figure them out for yourself.

When you run out of ammo you’ll automatically reload, or you can take cover and tap the fire button to force reload. Beware, though; this won’t top up your ammo like most other shooters – it’ll drop whatever you had left and use a brand new magazine. So you’ll have to learn to not reload quite to aggressively if you want to have any ammo left.

The game plays smoothly enough, though I did encounter a bug leaving me “between” positions with nothing to shoot and nothing to do except reset the whole game (close the app completely and restart kind of reset, too). That only happened the once, but it can kill your enthusiasm somewhat if you have to restart the entire game because of a bug.

The aiming is fine for the most part. It’s a little slow for my liking, but the waves of enemies tend to line up in front of you, so you don’t usually have to look around all that much.

The guns feel distinct, with their own shooting pattern and kickback. With some, the shotgun for example, the kickback is so hefty it can get annoying to have to drag the view down again to re-aim, but that’s forgivable. All-in-all, the gameplay is enjoyable, though brief. If you like mobile shooters, then you’ll definitely get something out of this title.

Audio & Visual

Even though it’s not running the Unreal engine as far as I can see (the 3D engine of choice for 3D iOS games at the moment), the graphics are really nicely put together. The textures are detailed, and the models are decent all around. The animations are great across the board, and react nicely to the various positions and such.

The voice work is solid, and gives you a good sense of the characters they portray in the cutscenes. A old-timey gramophone-style record is constantly playing in the background (even in the vault somehow), though it soon gets drowned out by gunfire, and so doesn’t get annoying.

Overall

Heist is a well put together title. With solid gameplay, decent writing, and good art direction, this game is well worth the price. It’s short length and little-to-no replayability are a little disappointing, but the content that is there is well made. And for the introductory price of $0.99, it’s a must buy for fans of the shooter genre.

FIFA Football Review

FIFA Football
Developer: EA Sports
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Platform: Playstation Vita
Release Date: 22/02/2012
Price: $34.98 (Available Here)

Overview

For a while, the portable FIFA games have been lacking a sparkle compared to the console (and, more recently, PC) versions. That is until the release of FIFA Football for the Playstation Vita. The console gameplay finally hits a portable, with most of the gameplay features, modes, visuals and audio present. With that in mind, this is surely going to score a hat-trick. But, will certain elements, such as a lack of the more recent gameplay additions, lack of a few console game modes and the touch screen controls, have the referee pulling out the red card from his back pocket?

Gameplay

FIFA Football goes back to the FIFA 11 game engine rather than the recent FIFA 12 game engine. All of the gameplay features that were introduced in FIFA 12, like Tactical Defending, will be absent in FIFA Football. However, their absence does not deter gameplay. This iteration of the football franchise is meant to bring the console experience to the portable front and it achieves that goal. Sure, defending might be more pressing than what has been experienced in FIFA 12 and it does lack precision dribbling, but, compared to the previous Playstation Portable entries, your footballing mind is required more than ever. The controls are basically the same, save for a few advanced controls. The chip kick, for example, requires the player to hold press circle plus the left shoulder button plus the right shoulder button to compensate for a lack of a second shoulder button.

So, since it has been established that the Vita version is inspired by the console versions, the game modes of said versions should make an appearance in the Vita version. For the most part, they do. Virtual Pro makes a seamless transition onto the portable platform. Here, players create themselves as a player of any club in any position, including goalkeeper. Expect plenty of customisation options, but also expect some of them to be locked, including boots and the more colourful hairstyles. Just like FIFA on the consoles, your created player can improve in any game mode as well as the arena. Career Mode also makes an appearance. Here, you can play as a player, manager or a player manager. Don’t expect the FIFA 12 Career Mode, though. Just like the gameplay, it is akin to the FIFA 11 version. This means no youth development and no frantic transfer deadline day. Tournament mode, exhibition and online modes are also present, but there is no Ultimate Team mode, which will disappoint some fans.

Of course, what Vita game wouldn’t be complete without touch controls. Both the front and rear touch controls are used to control different aspects of the game. The front touch screen mainly focuses on passing and selecting players when you are on the defence. For passing, power is controlled by the length of the touch. The rear touch pad is used for shooting. Visualise the touch pad as the goal. All one has to do is touch the pad in their area of choice, leave their finger on the pad to build up power and the shot will be taken. Of course, power, the type of shot and players around the attacker will affect where the shot will end up. Both touch controls can be used for penalties, corners and free kicks as well. These are optional and I would suggest turning them off if you want to play the classical way. I will say that the touch controls are a mixed bag. Shooting via the rear touch pad works very well, too well in fact. It makes the game easier to an extent. Front touch controls are only useful for simple passes, so don’t expect to play a one-two with these controls.

In terms of leagues and teams, they are lifted from FIFA 12, which means the Turkish SuperLig will be absent. However, just like FIFA 12, there will be one team representing Turkey at club level: Galatasaray. Leagues such as the Barclays Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 will be fully licensed due to the agreement made with EA. So there will be no new leagues or national teams for the Vita version. Still, there is a variety of teams, over 100 of them, so you are spoiled for choice. Each and every one of them will be available at the start of Career Mode, so you can start off my being the first choice striker at Manchester United or start your manager career at Borussia Dortmund. I have always applauded the amount of teams available in the FIFA games. This is the reason why I have taken an interest in football outside of Europe.

Visuals and Audio

The visuals are impressive for a handheld game. They emulate those present in the console versions, including detailed character models and player animations. The presentation of the game also takes a leaf out of the book of the console version. The menus are easy to navigate and are familiar to veteran FIFA current-gen players. This extends to the team management, career mode and even the games themselves. The players will come out of the tunnels and shake hands, something not seen on the portable devices. Most of the kits are licensed and look superb.

The soundtrack only offers a handful of tracks. Compared to the 20-30 tracks in the console versions, this is pretty disappointing. However, if the tracks are not to your liking, then you can always listen to your own tracks via the Music application of the Playstation Vita. Just turn down the in-game music volume or unselect the tracks. One thing you do want to hear is the crowds and the commentary of Marin Tyler and Alan Smith. The commentary team is great, emulating their performance from the console versions. The crowds also create the atmosphere of a football game.

Overall

FIFA Football is what every FIFA fan wants on the go. Gameplay that feels familiar, despite not adding in more recent additions to the mechanics, with hundreds of licensed teams to choose from. Virtual Pro and other game modes make a seamless entry into the portable realm, as well as online matches. The visuals take inspiration from the console, backed up by excellent commentary and an accurate atmosphere created by the crowds. With that said, some fans will be disappointed with the lack of Ultimate Team. The touch controls are a mixed bag. Front touch is too distracting but rear touch is excellent. Football fans rejoice, as the portable space has its greatest FIFA game yet.

Skylanders ablaze with few new characters

Activision have announced some new additions to join the Skylanders army with the addition of an Air, Fire and Life element range of characters. First comes Lightning Rod, the Storm Giant of Cloud Kingdom who yearns for adventures in faraway lands. Rod is captivated by Spyros tales and decides to join the young dragon , seeking out Eon and becoming one of the Skylanders team.

Next up, is the fiery Sunburn, part dragon and part phoenix he is more than capable of roasting enemies with his ultra hot flame breath. Sunburn has ulterior motives for joining the Skylanders, as although he is content using his powers for good, he is hunted for his rare heritage and abilities and the Skylanders provide much needed refuge.

Additionally, Zook will also be introduced to the Skylander range. Heralding from a not so bright race of individuals who thought they couldnt move simply as they hadnt tried, Zook uses his hand-made Bazooka to bombard the enemies with specially made explosive thorns. In conjunction, a new Dragons peak pack will be made available which features Sunburn as well as other items that will unlock more of the games content. Id urge you snap any of the characters and packs as they seem to be rarer than hens teeth and sell out as they hit the shelves.
