DiRT Showdown delayed a couple of weeks on consoles

If you were hoping to have a DiRT Showdown on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on May 29th then perhaps you should find something else to tide yourself over until June 15th because Codemasters revealed today that the game has been delayed on these consoles until that date.

The PC version of the game is still going to be available on Steam on May 24th so no worries there if you enjoy some PC gaming. The reason for the delay is to give the game a “clearer release window.” This usually translates into the fact that there are either A. too many games coming out at the same time or B. the game will be released the week before E3 and will be lost in the hype.

Toonami begins again on May 26

Many of you may remember when Cartoon Network used to feature a great block of animation every day back in the ’90s. That block of anime used to always air during Toonami, however over the years Toonami was gradually reduced until it was eliminated completely. However back on April Fools’ day last month Adult Swim ran a classic block of Toonami anime.

The outcry of support for Toonami was absolutely overwhelming so it only makes sense that Cartoon Network choose to re-instate the Toonami block. Adult Swim revealed on Twitter that the much loved Toonami will return on May 26th. Exactly what shows will be airing on Toonami have yet to be revealed, though let us hope that it contains a number of brand new shows.

Max Payne 3 receives some free DLC

If, for whatever reason, you find yourself a little bit bored with Max Payne 3’s multiplayer mode already then perhaps you would be interested to know that there is already a free DLC pack on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace for the game. The free DLC is called “Gorilla Warfare” and focuses around added multiplayer bonuses.

The pack contains a gorilla mask which allows players to get extra adrenaline for any melee kills from behind, a booby trap which allows players to blow up their dead body if it is looted and a lucky coin which gives the player extra stuff when they do loot a body. As I said before the add on is currently free to all, even those who went for the Rockstar Pass which offers any and all DLC released in the future at a one time cost of $30.

“Halo 4” Retail Editions Revealed

343 Industries in their weekly bulletin released the information on all the different retail editions of Halo 4 that will be available upon release.  So how many are they doing this time?  3? 4?  Nope, this time around they are focusing it down to just 2 different editions of the game.  Standard and Limited Edition.

Well, we already know what is going into the standard, i.e. just the game, but what all is going to be available for the Limited Edition?  Interestingly enough the special contents are mostly digital in nature, few being the physical swag special editions have become known for including.  You can see the Limited Edition above and the listing of content below.

  • 3 future competitive multiplayer map pack DLCs upon their release
  • 6  in-game Specializations unlocked early, which includes access to new ranks and customizations
  • Briefing Packet for UNSC Infinity, which has schematics on armor, information on weapons, as well as the Spartan IVs
  • Special Edition of the forthcoming Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn live action series, with 15 additional minutes
  • Bonus content from Xbox LIVE from Avatar items to in-game armor and weapon skins

343 Industries also said that they will be talking more about the Specializations at E3 2012, so be sure to check it out to find out more about what they will be bringing to the game.  Overall, this is pretty awesome to see, especially the included DLC.  But how do you feel?  Be sure to leave a comment about the content of the Limited Edition or the lack of a Legendary Edition.

“Omerta – City of Gangsters” Making it to Xbox

Fans of the Tropico strategy series should be interested to hear that Kalypso Media and Haemimont Games’ new game Omerta – City of Gangsters, which was previously only set for release on Windows PC, will also be releasing for Xbox 360.  Omerta is a simulation game built around trying to make a crime empire in Atlantic City during the 1920’s, but will feature turn-based RPG elements during the gun fights that must inevitably happen in mob style games.

Omerta goes with the wide-eyed big-dreaming immigrant motif, though with 15 different characters to pick from, so there is sure to be someone interesting from any player standpoint.  The game does seem to want to be pretty in-depth in its manner of combat and assorted crimes, from planning to enacting robberies and attacking rival gangs.  So far they’ve announced quite a bit of different jobs that can be done, in and around 20 different districts of Atlantic City that are designed to be historically accurate.

Going from PC only, to also on Xbox 360 seems like a good move, so long as the controller scheme is set out pat to roll with it. Let’s see how they do with it.

Nomura: New Titles Before FFVII Remake

This year, Final Fantasy VII will celebrate its 15th anniversary. Famitsu is running a feature on the game which includes an interview with Square Enix heavyweight Tetsuya Nomura, who was the character designer for the game. In his interview, Nomura has revealed that there is a desire to remake the adventure of Cloud and co. However, as of right now, new titles are the priority. He also hopes that these new games will either equate to or top Final Fantasy VII. Nomura also revealed that Yufie was a wanted person early in development, with posters hung around Midgar, the last one being Yufie.

Outside of Final Fantasy VII, Nomura believes that Yoshinori Kitase, another Square Enix employee, will be the true successor to the Final Fantasy series. Kitase has been a producer in the main series since Final Fantasy X, handpicked by Hironobu Sakaguchi, the father of the Final Fantasy series. Before that, Kitase has worked as a director in the  main series, including Final Fantasy VII.

Is Nomura right in putting new games as a priority over a Final Fantasy VII remake? Feel free to express your opinions in the comment section below.

Second Vita Game Heaven To Be Held In June

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan CEO Hiroshi Kawano has revealed in Famitsu that there will be a second “Playstation Vita Game Heaven” broadcast in the month of June. The first one, held in March, covered new and upcoming games that are going to be gracing the handheld in the future in a series of videos. The biggest announcement was Phantasy Star Online 2, which was exclusive to PC prior to the event. Other games showcased were Metal Gear Solid HD Edition and Persona 4: The Golden. For the videos of the first Game Heaven, follow this link.

The first event did receive harsh criticism due to the titles and the nature of the broadcast. Hiroshi Kawano has said that he has taken the criticism and will learn from it, making changes to Game Heaven in the next broadcast. Fans would be much happier if this broadcast was done similar to Nintendo Direct and include some Soul Sacrifice. Maybe some Monster Hunter, Final Fantasy and possibly Kingdom Hearts. One can only dream about those last three titles.

Is there anything you would want to see in this second Game Heaven? Give us your thoughts in the comment section below.
