Level-5 are prepping for the release of their story-driven game Time Travelers with a new trailer. The trailer shows off some of the more dramatic moments of the different scenarios. It also shows off some of the gameplay elements. While some sections include a quick time event mechanic, others will utilise a choice mechanic, meaning branching storylines. Players can also hop between the chapters of the different scenarios to change the fates of the different characters.
Set in 2031, Time Travelers revolves around an event that will change the world forever. Eighteen years earlier, in 2013, central Tokyo was destroyed by the appearance of the “Lost Hole.” These two events may have a correlation with each other. Time Travelers is set for release on July 12 on the Playstation Vita, Playstation Portable and Nintendo 3DS. So far, Japan is the only region set for a release. The trailer can be seen below.
Fans of dungeon crawlers like Diablo and Dungeon Hunter should get really pumped for this title!
At the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) the year, WeMade Entertainment showed off a lot of games, but it was Project Dragon: The Roar From The Dungeon that WeMade appeared to be most excited to show off.
Project Dragon: The Roar From The Dungeon has been describes as WeMade’s “Greatest Prodigy” and after watching the trailer it’s easy to see why! A developer well known for it’s endeavours in the MMORPG market, this ambitious title allows players to play with one another online with four class options: Weapon Master, Sage, Magician and Assassin with customisation options. Gameplay appears to be insanely fast-paced and fun with interesting slide and tap control options. Oh yeah, and the graphics are looking awesome!
Project Dragon: The Roar From The Dungeon will be available on iOS and Android devices, but a release date is yet to be announced. In the meantime, check out the trailer below!
Viking Island is a new up coming game from WeMade Entertainment which focuses on an interesting mix of farming and RPG adventure. A fully 3D experience, Viking Island has players building an island economy through crafting and farming. The twist is that adventuring and combat plays a major role as defending your farm and maintaining peace on the island is a huge priority. Five unique hero classes are available for combat: Warrior, Archer, Berserker, Sorcerer and Wizard.
Viking Island was on display at this WeMade Entertainment’s E3 showcase this year and is looking like it could be a pretty addictive title! Viking Island will be coming to iOS and Android devices in July, 2012.
Originally abandoned by Activision, the newly revived Sleeping Dogs seems like it may be able to do everything, except put someone to sleep of course. Now while the demonstrations on the show-room floor gave people a chance to try out the unique melee system that Sleeping Dogs contains, we were able to witness a closed-door experience with the PC build of the game demonstrating the shooting mechanics as well as some of the driving action that the final game will contain. We join up with Wei Shen in what appeared to be a night club that he was running somewhere in Hong Kong under his current boss. Shen and two of his compatriots are trying to figure out who just attacked them in what was likely the mission that would have taken place before, when suddenly a man named Ponytail shows up with a proposal.
Rather than giving a portion of their profits to their current boss, Shen and his crew would need to pay a different Triad boss who goes by the name Big Smile Lee. Obviously this proposal wasn’t met with handshakes and smiles, and Shen told him to leave and never come back. Unfortunately for him, he didn’t realize that Lee’s men had already surrounded the club and infiltrated the place and his refusal instantly began a bloodbath. Now the third person gunplay style doesn’t seem too unfamiliar from what most people will be used to, such as taking cover behind walls and various objects. What does make the gunplay interesting is the fact that the title contains some quite interesting bullet time factors. Players will be able to enter a bullet-time like mode and leap over cover, dive over railings and perform various other stunts like one would see in action movies while shooting at enemies.
After eliminating all of the thugs inside of the night club, we watched as the developer took Shen out onto the street and hopped into a car to chase after Ponytail as he tried to flee the scene. Now rather than actually drive the car, the player had control over Shen as he hung outside of the passenger side window and took out any enemy vehicles that were pursuing them. The entire car chase played out almost exactly like an action movie considering the realistic reflections of the lights on the cars. Plus, the vehicles the enemies were driving seemed to have some mini explosives hidden in their tires considering nearly every vehicle that was taken out would end up launching itself into the air in some way or another. This was especially true for whenever the player took out the tires on the vehicle, with it actually jumping into the air at least five feet.
After a very exhilarating car chase with plenty of flipping and rolling cars, the player had to chase after the Ponytail man. During this segment we saw that the player would also be taking part in some minor free running as the player had to climb over fences, burst through doors of occupied homes, jump and climb onto roof tops and more. Unfortunately that ended our experience with Sleeping Dogs but this unique experience already looks like it will be hard to pass up when it is released on August 4th.
Get ready for battle because a new fighter is coming to iOS Devices!
Friend Fighter is a new fighting game coming to iOS devices from WeMade Entertainment. This title is one of eight from WeMade Entertainment that premiered at E3 2012 as the company attempts to push it’s market outside of Asia.
This game appears to play much like Street Fighter IV: Volt with a few noticable differences. Character designs are looking sharp with interesting combos that can lead into juggles and special attacks! It should also be noted however that Friend Fighter is currently just a working title and is set to include some interesting social features.
Friend Fighter is looking promising so let’s hope we can see it on iOS devices soon. In the meantime, check out the trailer below!
The first poster has been revealed on Joblo.com along side some screen shots of the upcoming comic book adapation of 2000AD character Judge Dredd. This film is unreleated to the 1995 version starring Sylvester Stallone, this one stars Karl Urban as Judge Dredd and Olivia Thirlby as Judge Anderson. It’s R-rated and scripted by Alex Garland – the guy who write 28 Days Laters so you know this is going to be epic!
The film takes place in a dystopia known as Mega City One, where police have the authority to acts as judge, jury and executioner. These street judges must take down a gang who’s dealing a reality altering drug called SLO-MO, so you know that means – awesome HD slow motion beat downs!
Dredd hits Mega City One again in 3D and 2D theaters on September 21, 2012.
Since Spider-Man 3 (2007) Sony have been talking about making a movie starring Eddie Brock/Venom from the Spider-Man Universe, but it now appears things could be in motion.
According to an interview with Hollywood.com, The Amazing Spider-Man producers Aci Arad and Matthew Tolmach have shared some details on their plans for the film:
“It’s an Eddie Brock story. We want to be as close to the comics as possible. Especially in Eddie Brock’s story. But again, pseudo-science is becoming science. All these tidbits about webs, artificial webs, is a huge industry now. Spiderwebs have unique qualities that will be huge for communications, fibers, and so forth. So we have taken the approach that we want to make the huge amazing movie about Eddie…The whole essence to us for the Marvel characters is stay close to the bible, stay close to the emotional story, and the rest is fun. Look for the worlds to make sense with one another.”
–Aci Arad, Producer of The Amazing Spider-Man
Rumours circle the upcoming Sony film, suggesting that Chronicle director Josh Trank will direct, and that the Venom film could tie into The Amazing Spider-Man.
In the meantime, The Amazing Spider-Man swings into European theatres June 28 and North American theatres July 3, with a sequel already planned for 2014.
Skylanders was a very successful experiment for the people over at Activision so it only makes sense that they continue this experiment with their next title, Skylanders Giants. At a behind-the-scenes showing of the game during E3 this year we were given a first-hand look at some of the new features gamers will be expecting when Skylanders Giants is released. Now as one may expect, there will be plenty of new adventures to be had in this game, but don’t worry, all of your old items and old Skylander figures will be completely usable in this sequel and they will even carry over their levels as well. This provides a nice little bonus for those who have hit the maximum level cap of 10 in Skylanders, considering the level cap has been raised in Skylanders Giants to 15, allowing even further character progression than ever before.
Now along with a number of new adventures, brand new areas to explore and more hidden routes and areas, some new Skylander Figures were revealed during this showing as well. For example, Jet-Vac is an air type Skylander who can actually suck up items or enemies and shoot them back out, and Pop Fizz a new alchemist character who can cause explosions and grow larger with his potions. Besides this new character, a new type of figure was revealed, called light-corp, which are basically figures that will actually glow when placed on the Skylander portal.
The figure that was demonstrated was Prism Break, a previous ground type Skylander. The interesting thing behind these guys is that whenever they are called into battle they will actually cause a blast of energy to hit every enemy in the area. Besides these new figures and new types, Series 2 figurines will also be introduced. The figure shown off to us was Cynder, a previously available Skylander figure who will now be able to use a number of new attacks besides her figurine having a new type of pose.
The key new feature to Skylanders Giants is of course, the Giants themselves. Players will be able to experience a number of new gameplay mechanics when trying out these larger Giant fighters, such as picking up and throwing boulders as they roam about the map with characters twice as large as other Skylander figures. Now we were shown two of the eight giants which will be avaialble when the game is released, Tree Rex who is a giant, life-type element capable of using a “reverse-photosynthesis” beam and Bouncer, a robotic Giant Skylander capable of shooting rockets out of his back, firing guns out of his fingers and using laser vision.
Besides these eight giants, eight new basic figures will be added to the mix, one for each of the Skylander elements, along with a number of Series 2 type figurines. Those curious about what characters will be available in the game’s starter pack will be happy to hear they will be receiving a Series 2 Cynder, the brand new Jet-Pac as well as the Giant figure Tree Rex. Those who simply want to pick up the game on its own will be able to do so and still receive Tree Rex as a bonus.
We’ve all probably played a Spider Man game before, whether they were created as movie-adaptations or not. However this may be the first time ever that the development team behind the game worked so closely with the producers of the movie to try and make sure that everything flows perfectly and is created just as one would see in the movie itself. In the behind-closed-doors presentation for The Amazing Spider Man we learned that the game itself will actually take place after the events of the movie.
This has allowed the creators to not only have more creative freedom with the storyline, but also to re-imagine a number of enemy origin stories. You see, rather than put an end to their genetic research, Oscorp has continued to do so. As such this has created a number of human-animal hybrids which have begun rampaging around the city. By working closely with Marvel & Sony the developers revealed that everything shown in the game is actually going to be accepted as canon, though how exactly was not explained.
Players will be stepping into the suit of Spider Man in a brand new way, as the camera angle will actually follow very closely on Spider Man so that it actually makes the player feel as if they were him. This close camera angle is quite amazing in motion, especially whenever the player is swinging around Manhattan due to the fact that it will often feel like a roller coaster with the rise and fall of the camera angle. It is great that swinging around on webs is as fun as ever, considering the development team has made The Amazing Spider Man open world once again, allowing players to explore all of Manhattan and do various side-missions and gather collectibles (comic book pages which unlock full digital classic comic books) as well.
A number of Spider Mans abilities have been modified to adjust to his new background in The Amazing Spider Man. For example, rather than having an infinite amount of webbing he can produce from his body, Spider Man will actually have to reload his webbing canisters (though these are infinite as well thanks to product testing). What makes this mechanic interesting is the fact that Spider Man will occasionally slip his hand to his belt to reload when necessary, which is something never before shown in a Spider Man game. Also added into the game is an auto-catch system so that players won’t need to worry about dying from a long-distance fall.
Besides these small adjustments, the combat system and navigation system have been majorly overhauled. Rather than creating large web hammers etc, Spider Man will be fighting with flips, kicks, punches and more. The new fighting style is actually stylized after the Lucha Libre style of wrestling, focusing more on acrobatic attacks than anything else. The adjustment to navigation is the newly crated Web Rush system which places the camera into a first-person view behind Spider Man’s mask as he seeks out highlighted areas that he can leap or swing to. This allows players to navigate around the city with the same type of acrobatics that was previously only performable during cut-scenes or quick time events.
During the presentation we were shown that Web Rush is also context specific, as players can immediately start side-missions by jumping to a mission start point, or swing between light poles before jumping onto a speeding getaway car and taking it out. Also shown in this presentation was the new way most of the animal-human hybrids will appear. While Rhino previously wore an armored suit in Spider Man lore, he will actually now be a human/rhino hybrid with armor growing out of his body and horns on top of his head. After witnessing an interesting, albeit repetitive battle against Rhino we were introduced to “Hunters” which have been sent out from Oscorp to try and wrangle up or kill all of the hybrids roaming the city, including Spider Man. To fight off the Hunter Spider Man started to battle against it while in the air, swinging between buildings in some rather impressive mid-air combat. Now we’ve all seen movie tie-ins or adaptations before, but this one may just be one that will go in the must play category depending how the rest of the game turns out on June 26th when it hits store shelves.
Are you a software developer? If you are, then you may have been subject to what I can only describe as the biggest waste of time anybody has ever been subjected to. If you were a developer in Oslo last week for the Norwegian Developers Conference, you will know that I am referring to you and your kind.
At this conference, Microsoft was to showcase some advances in their cloud computing architecture to developers, probably in the hopes of getting them involved and to get them to build their software around. Now normally, I don’t think developers would have been subject to the kind of presentation they received. For the record, I quite enjoyed what was displayed, not that I was there, but I don’t think it was relevant to anything.
I can imagine a room full of software developers sitting around, waiting for some introductory speeches and some technical specifications, only to have the stage light up before their faces and having women in various states of undress come out to the stage and start dancing to what is easily the most catchy and horrible auto-tuned song in the industry.
This is probably just as bad as when Microsoft did their E3 conference and had Usher pimping out his new single in every sentence. Seriously. Which do you think was worse, or better: Microsofts E3 performance, or Microsofts NDC conference? Let us know in the comment section below.
