Dead or Alive 5 Plus’ first-person ‘Touch Play’ mode detailed

Tecmo Koei revealed a few new pieces of information for Dead or Alive 5 Plus, an enhanced version of the console game, which will be released on the PlayStation Vita on March 19th in North America. First they decided to provide more information about the new first-person gameplay mode that has been introduced in this version of the game.

In “Touch Play” mode players can hold the Vita vertically and receive a first-person view of their opponent. In this view you will not fight as you normally would, but instead you will fight using either one of two modes. Mode 1 allows the player to attack their opponent anywhere they tap them while Mode 2 allows for flicking, touching and pinching your opponent for more attack variety.

Also added in this version of the game is a Training Plus mode which provides various enhanced training missions as well as extra information such as delay interval frames, move reach and more. It is also worth noting that players can also share costumes between the Vita version and PlayStation 3 versions of the game. You can check out some screenshots of the game below, including the first-person view. However you will not be getting odd thoughts out of me this time, you’re free to come up with those on your own!

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing – Into the Wild Gameplay Trailer

A brand new game by Neocore Games, The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing revolves around the famous man himself as he makes his way through a dark and grim fantasy world (because where else) based vaguely on a 19th Century Europe. In this world magic, technology and mythology collide and Van Helsing must unite with the very monsters his father fought to stop in the hopes of besting some evil scientists! The features of said game include:

  • A memorable gothic-noir universe filled with monsters, magic, and weird science.
  • A refreshingly unique story, spiced up with wry humor, and snappy dialogue.
  • Fierce battles against supernatural foes with diverse skills and abilities.
  • Ability to customize your characters through a detailed level-up system where they decide which skills and abilities they’ll need for the hunt.
  • Use special abilities and tailor the skills of a very remarkable follower.
  • Modify their skills on the spot with a unique power-up system.
  • Learn the secrets of mystical alchemy and forge powerful items.
  • Build and develop your hideout and place traps to defend it from waves of terrible monsters.
  • Gather the members of the Resistance and decorate the hunter’s lair with valuable trophies.
  • Become the greatest monster slayer of all time while playing a cooperative multiplayer monster hunt up to four players.

Interestingly enough based on the Gameplay Trailer alone the game actually looks… really quite good. There seems to be lots of varied enemies and levels and even a somewhat creepy vibe that flows throughout. While in the trailer Van Helsing himself looks a bit flat, according to the developers this issue is a thing of the past. Apparently in the actual game players will be able to customise their character with different pieces of weapons, armour and clothing; with the base model of the trailer disappearing altogether in the face of a complete character re-design. The new character concept art, as well as several in-game screenshots can be found below.

Character alterations aside, The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing looks to be a fun and interesting romp through a dark Europe and if they can nail the “wry humour and snappy dialogue” they just might have an awesome downloadable game on their hands. Only time will tell…

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing has a tentative release date for the first quarter of 2013, with the game itself being available on Xbox Live and PC upon launch.

Tales of Hearts R’s new anime scenes previewed in latest screens

In case you haven’t heard yet, Namco Bandai has acquired the services of Production I.G. the animation studio behind a large amount of popular anime series, such as Ghost in the Shell, Robotics;Notes, Guilty Crown and many others, to create ten brand new anime cutscenes for the game. It is worth noting that Production I.G. also handled the intro sequences as well as the artwork for Tales of Symphonia.

Well today Famitsu revealed a large batch of screenshots showing off the new animated sequences. The images can be seen below and currently Tales of Hearts R is set to be released in Japan on March 7th. Currently a Western release of the series is up in the air at this point.

Laharl’s Sister revealed in latest Disgaea D2 screens

The biggest plot point revealed so far for Disgaea D2 (also called Disgaea Dimension 2, a direct sequel to the original Disgaea game) is that Laharl’s younger sister Sicily will be appearing to try and overthrow Laharl as the Overlord of the NetherWorld and take the position for herself.

Sicily claims that she is the daughter of King Krichevskoy and will not give up no matter what difficult situation she faces. It is interesting to note that the same voice actress who provided the Japanese voice of Welsh in Mugen Souls will also provide the voice work for Sicily. Images of Sicily and additional screenshots from the game itself can be seen below, which demonstrate the return of the Dark Assembly system.

Neon Alley coming to the Xbox 360 early 2013

If you were delighted to hear that you would have the ability to watch a number of Viz Media’s English dubbed anime many months before they were actually released to stores via Neon Alley, but didn’t own a PlayStation 3 then you were unfortunately out of luck. However that is all about to change.

Today Viz Media revealed that they are planning on bringing Neon Alley to the Xbox 360 sometime early in 2013. Currently the company could not provide a slimmer time-frame than that; however this is great news for 360 owning anime fans. As for the service itself, Neon Alley is subscription based and costs $6.99 a month to subscribe. Recently I provided my thoughts of the service, which can be found here, and found it a rather enjoyable service, albeit one lacking any user input or control.

Crysis 3 – 7 Wonders Episode 2

EA have forwarded us a link to their latest episode in the Crysis 3 video series, 7 wonders. In this episode of Crysis 3 – 7 Wonders, we see the character Prophet taking on a group of CELL soldiers. The episode is titled ‘The Hunt’ and it has a bit of hunting, of enemies, in it.

It seems that EA are really pushing this whole Bow and Arrow thing in Crysis 3. The trailer showcases almost exclusive gameplay with the Bow, with the main character facing multiple forms of enemies with the weapon. The Bow is called the Predator Bow and signifies a new look for the franchise.

Guardians of Middle-Earth – Thorin and Great Troll DLC Release Today

A second DLC pack for MOBA game Guardians of Middle-Earth has been released today with Monolith seemingly putting a large focus on getting out all their planned Guardians as quickly as possible. While this pack includes no new map to play on, gamers will find themselves with some signature characters from the upcoming movie, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (and of course the original book).

The two newly available Guardians are Thorin Oakenshield the Warrior and Great Goblin the Defender. Some attentive watchers may notice that this appears to be the same Goblin from The Hobbit, which argues over how best to cook the party of adventurers, eventually falling prey to similar cooking by the Sun itself. In the game however, I very much doubt that this will occur, unless as a reference in the death animation or something… which would actually be really cool.

Guardians of Middle-Earth along with its first two DLC packs is available now for purchase and enjoyment, with this particular pack costing 160 Microsoft Points/$2.50 for each individual Guardian or of course, absolutely nothing if you own the Season Pass. If you’re still unsure of the original game’s quality or are just sitting on the fence waiting to be pushed either way, feel free to check out our in-depth review of the game here.

Lightning Returns debut trailer shows off battles and Lightning’s outfit

If you wanted to see how Lightning’s new outfit will look in action outside of a basic scan of her image, then you are in luck because despite the fact that the video was originally meant to be released at Jump Festa this weekend, some Japanese website broke embargo with the trailer and a fan managed to rip the video.

As such the debut trailer for Lightning Returns can now be seen below. In the video we see how the game’s apparently solo battle system will work out, some town exploration, details about the game’s storyline and a better look at Lightning’s apparently backless new leather outfit.
