Overview

Necrotic Drift is an old school styled text adventure horror game. This game is a remake of an older version of Necrotic Drift that was released in 2004.

Story

Jarret Duffy is an unlikable loser, with even more unlikable loser friends. His girlfriend has some problems with him being a huge loser with a dead end job, but he seems to be okay with it. His friends, girlfriend, and he get trapped in a mall with zombies. Unfortunately it takes several chapters to get to this point. As you drudge through the almost unbearable dialogue Jarret exchanges with his friends and girlfriend, you begin to wonder how long you have to wait until they die. The story does pick up a bit when you finally hit the zombies, but it is still not very interesting to sit through. The game tries to be offensively funny, but ends up sounding annoying and sad.

Gameplay

As with all text adventures, you must type in the action you want to do. Unfortunately there never seems to be many actions you can take. Through much of the game there seems to be only one real action to choose. Many times the player can get by, by simply entering “leave” or “talk” just to make the story move forward.  Sometimes, very rarely, can you actually do something other than try to figure out the key word to make things move along. You are never really given much of an indication of what you need to do, most of the time it is just guessing until you get it right. You can also talk to the other characters sometimes, which is never rewarding considering that none of them have anything of merit to say. One might say that talking to characters subconsciously avoided in order to not have to read what terrible joke they come up with next.

Visuals and Audio

Visually this game has almost nothing, but it is a text adventure game so usually you don’t get any visuals at all. You get pictures of the characters and environments, but it is not anything special to look at. The photos used as environments and depictions of the characters come off as depressing in a very real sense, rather than depressing in the context of the game.

The music in this game sounds like it is from an early 90s point and click game. It can be nostalgic to listen to the keyboard like sounds, but the music will stop playing less than a minute into each chapter. You then simply play in silence until the next chapter.

Overall

At first the game seemed promising as a call back to early text adventure games, however it fall short on every level. Necrotic Drift looks cute and nostalgic at first glance with it’s charming little keyboard tunes and terrible early 90s resolution pictures, but once one actually has any sort of interaction with the game it all falls apart. Necrotic Drift could have easily gotten away with the poor music and visuals, in fact it could have been a bonus to the game, if only the actual story was not so unpleasant to read.

Necrotic-Drift-Screenshot-03

Necrotic Drift is a chore to play. Between the unbearable characters and the long parts of the game where nothing but awful banter happens, the game is not enjoyable. Having to guess at the exact word the game needs to move forward is boring and frustrating, while the rest of the time it is monotonous in that it will repeatedly allow one simple word to continue. This is a waste of time, even if it was free. Having to pay any money for it at all is unthinkable. It is not even so bad it is good, it is so bad that it is bad.

Nicolas Cage cast as Goku in ‘Dragon Ball Z: Revolution’ film

nic-cage-gokuFollowing the major success of the 2009 live-action of the popular Dragon Ball franchise, Dragon Ball Evolution, it was only a matter of time before a sequel hit our screens.

We can now confirm that a sequel titled Dragon Ball Z: Revolution is now in production and will be hitting theaters this Holiday season. The film is set to star Nicolas Cage as Goku a young martial artist who just so happens to be one of the last surviving remnants of an ancient alien race known as the Saiyans. Cage will not only be playing Goku however.

He has been cast in dual roles and will also play the dastardly alien known as Freiza who just so happens to the very same alien who destroyed the ancient alien race known as the Saiyans which Goku happens to be one of the last surviving members of.

Nicolas Cage took some time out of his busy schedule to comment on the upcoming film and what he thinks of the Dragon Ball franchise, “It’s got aliens in it – I play two of them. I like aliens.” Undoubtedly powerful words from a captivating man whose philosophical musings surpass even the world’s greatest scholars.

Pre-sale tickets for Dragon Ball Z: Revolution have already sold out cinemas across the nation. It isn’t any surprise of course as two alien Nic Cages fighting one another is sure to make for a compelling cinematic experience the likes of which have never been conceived. Dragon Ball Z: Revolution hits theaters this Holiday Season.

Hunter x Hunter returning from hiatus, Togashi checks out of rehab

Yoshihiro Togashi after 2 days of hiatus.

After a long an arduous battle with addiction, Yoshihiro Togashi, the man behind the popular manga series Hunter x Hunter has finally checked out of a Dragon Quest rehabilitation facility and has made clear that he plans to resume his Hunter x Hunter manga after more than a year on hiatus.

The manga went on hiatus following its 340th chapter in March of 2012. The hiatus was originally said to be brief, but that was when disaster struck – Dragon Quest X was released on the Wii a few months later. Togashi couldn’t help but wait outside his local video-games store for the next 4 months, his addiction had already taken control before the game had even been released.

When asked to comment on his addiction Togashi had this to say, “I like Dragon Quest.” He also went on to break his silence in regards to his hiatus by saying, “Sorry about that, please stop threatening my life.” He followed up by giving his thoughts on his fans, “I am afraid, please can someone help me?”

Unfortunately following his release from Dragon Quest rehab last week on the 23rd of March, Togashi broke his sobriety this past weekend upon the release of Dragon Quest X on the Wii U. Togashi’s whereabouts is currently unknown and his promise to resume the Hunter x Hunter manga is now up in the air. Togashi was last spotted cradling a Slime plush toy and a Wii U Gamepad at a local Starbucks cafe, presumably trying to take advantage of their free Wi-Fi.

Bible Black Remake Heading To 3DS And Wii U

bible-black-april-fools-screen-cap-001

Activesoft have revealed today that their fan favourite Eroge Visual Novel, Bible Black, will be appearing on both the Wii U and 3DS systems courtesy of Nintendo. What is interesting about this release is that it goes completely against Nintendo’s softcore family friendly image. Although, some can argue that Nintendo have been trying to capture more and more of the hardcore market as of late. However, this is kind of pushing the term “hardcore” a bit far.

Bible Black is best known for its Anime adaptation of the same name. The Anime series featured a fairly large amount of futanari (chicks with dicks) hentai scenes which lead to a massive cult following. What is interesting though is that game itself wasn’t as big on the futa, it was only really one or two characters.

Activesoft have revealed that each version of the game will have interactive controls using the touchscreens available to both consoles. However, 3DS users will have slightly reworked artwork in order to take advantage of the devices 3D capabilities. Also mentioned was a touchscreen based simulator where players are able to feel up or fondle various female characters in the game.

In an unexpected bit of breaking news, computing giant Microsoft is rumored to have announced the final name of their newest console late Sunday evening. The name of the console and a few of its specs were both reportedly released, and we’ve got it for you here first.

The console, called the Microsoft Kamal, is named after an ancient celestial navigation device that was used to determine one’s latitude. Said Microsoft representative Jacques Bathy, “The name of our newest console will show the world that we have our course plotted for the next generation of console hardware, and we’re ready to plant our flag as the definitive next generation.”

In an unprecedented move, Microsoft has also released a few of the specs for the Kamal:

  • The Kamal will debut Intel’s very first Bacon processor – a hyper-threaded dodeca-core processor said to achieve temperatures hot enough to make breakfast on without a special coolant.
  • 14 Petabytes of DDR8 WARP RAM – a first for the industry, touted to support the first ever Folding At Home killer, Microsoft’s Halving At Hearth.
  • A Seagate Latte SSD that holds an astounding 4.98 TB of space – perfect for the coming of the purely digital age of software distribution.
  • An Nvidia Slackjaw graphics processor that uses a proprietary new on-board architecture to ensure you have to pick your mouth up off the ground when you see it in action.
  • A proprietary wifi adaptor codenamed Sludge Pit that will utilize the new Wireless-HA 802.11ha standard that is set to be the newest, fastest, most secure wireless standard released to date.

Microsoft has yet to be forthcoming with a potential release date, but speculation sets the console to release sometime in the 21st century.

Be sure to keep your eyes and ears tuned here to make sure you have the newest information for the Kamal as it releases.

Google Nose Announced, in Beta Testing

Google-Nose-01

Seemingly out of nowhere, Google has unveiled an entirely new way to interact with your computer.

Google Nose allows you to smell almost anything you type in the search box, from a durian, to planet Mars. The database holds over 15 million unique smells compiled by Street Sense vehicles that were patrolling millions of miles inhaling and indexing the large catalogue of smells.

No special hardware or software is required, simply place your nose as close to the screen as possible and smell. Suggestions are made as to what others also sniffed and you can even share your favourite smells using Google+.

If you are still reading this and haven’t figured it out yet, then you might want to check the date. Yes you have been fooled, this is an April Fools prank! Seems like even giant International companies such as Google like to have a bit of fun every now and then.

Google also had another clever prank up its sleeve today with the announcement that YouTube was no longer accepting entries and that a winner for the best video would be decided over the next 10 years.

If you have a ‘scents’ of humour and found the joke pretty funny, you can check out the Google Nose introduction trailer below and let us know any funny pranks you have pulled over the years in the comments.

To Love-Ru Darkness Returning with OVAs

to-love-ru-darkness-ova
Ultimate harem anime To Love-Ru -Trouble- Darkness is set to return with an additional two OVAs bundled with the 8th and 9th volume of the ongoing manga in August 19 and December 4 respectively. Hinted at earlier this month, the project unfortunately didn’t turn out to be a fully fledged anime sequel as many had hoped but judging by the previous OVAs the antics will be just as intense.

To Love-Ru Darkness is the third anime entry in the romantic comedy series, preceded by the original To Love-Ru and Motto To Love-Ru sequel. The manga had been the subject of controversy following analysis by Tokyo’s Youth Healthy Development Council that it did not violate the revised standards that prohibit erotic and “socially disruptive” content to be sold to those under the age of 18. To Love-Ru Darkness was specifically mentioned as having drawn complaints by parents who found it in their children’s bedrooms.

The To Love-Ru Darkness anime has been licensed by Sentai Filmworks and is due to be released sometime this year.
