zero-no-tsukaima-light-novelSome unfortunate news has come in through Media Factory’s Taiji Misaka announcing that Noboru Yamaguchi the author of Zero no Tsukaima has tragically passed away this past week after a 2 year long struggle with cancer.

It has also managed to spawn 4 anime series based upon it, the last of which aired as recently as 2012.

Anime Girl of the Week: Akane Isshiki (Vividred Operation)

Vividred-operation-akane-isshiki

It’s now the fourth week of the Anime Girl of the Week feature and although this one is a bit late, this feature focuses on one female character from a currently airing anime and place the spotlight on them by providing background information, personality details as well as a slew of fan-art and official artwork.

This week I’m going to break the rules a little bit by focusing on a girl from a series that actually ended two weeks ago, but thanks to the various events that have occurred I was unable to provide this one last week. As such, you can expect the first girl from the Spring 2013 anime season to appear in next week’s Anime Girl of the Week.

In the world of Vividred Operation, there is no war and the Earth is at peace thanks to the invention of the Manifestation Engine which has provided unlimited energy to the entire world. However when mysterious beings known as the Alone appear and attempt to destroy the Manifestation Engine, which in turn will annihilate the universe due to the power it contains, it is revealed that four girls are the only hope that the world has.

Akane is the granddaughter of the famous Kenjirou Isshiki who originally designed the Manifestation Engine and she is a very energetic girl who is outgoing and innocent. She remains positive even when things look grim and because of this she manages to make friends very quickly with those around her.

To battle against the Alone Akane transforms using the Vivid System where she is able to wield a boomerang style weapon that can be thrown or used as a melee weapon to damage enemies. She has fear of heights which doesn’t bother her too much when she is transformed, but troubles her when she is riding upon her flying motorbike Wanko.

She has been long-time friends with Aoi and quickly becomes friends with Wakaba and Himawari in school. Of the girls, Akane is the leader and thanks to the fact that she is the first user of the Vivid System she leads the girls against the Alone whenever one appears. She has the unique ability to “Dock” with the other girls and transform into a more powerful girl that enhances the abilities of the girl she docks with. For example, she can dock with Wakaba and form Vivid Green or Himawari and become Vivid Yellow where they have higher attack and speed or defensive abilities respectively.

When she isn’t battling Alone or attending school, Akane lives at home with her grandfather and younger sister where she has a part-time job delivering newspapers. Her mother has been hospitalized ever since an explosion at the Manifestation Engine killed her father. For some reason Akane adores mayonnaise so much that she is willing to coat any food with a sickening amount of mayonnaise and adores tomatoes.

lost-planet-3-dlc-01

I almost forgot about Lost Planet 3. Last we heard, the game would be hitting the west in June. Well, that date has been changed now to August 27th, but I think this one still has a good deal of potential, despite the series limited appeal thus far. Today, a trio of trailers have been shown off to give gamers the incentive to pre-order the game, which display some upgraded weaponry and extra characters that will be given away by specific retailers. Check out the three DLC packs below:

AMAZON: Punisher Pack

GAMESTOP: Freedom Fighter Pack

BEST BUY: Assault Pack

Animal Crossing: New Leaf Passes 300k sold in Japan

tobidase-animal-crossing-02

Time to get excited. Animal Crossing: New Leaf doesn’t launch in the west until summer, but the sales in Japan for the title are red hot. Since it’s release, New Leaf has sold over 300,000 to date in the region alone (source, gematsu), showing that this follow-up is taking Japan by storm.

The 3DS is hitting it’s stride, as Luigi’s Mansion has been quite a success already for Nintendo, and with much more coming to the platform later this year and E3 right around the corner, this will only improve over time. Animal Crossing: New Leaf hits the states on June 9th, so get your schedules clear – as you have some serious Mayor work to do.

club-nintendo-april-01

It’s good to be a Club Nintendo member this month, as two of the most revolutionary releases from the 90’s are available in this month’s Club Nintendo Rewards program. Super Mario 64 has been priced at 200 coins, Super Metroid sits at 150, and 3DS owners can enjoy Kirby’s Pinball Land for 150 as well. Oh yeah, Urban Champion is also available for the same price, but that may be one to think hard about before splurging on.

So yes, a decent group of freebies if you have the coins this month. As an extra heads-up, Super Metroid will eventually drop on the Wii U during their eShop opening promotion this year for $.30, so Wii U owners might want to take note before spending their precious coins.

The Sims 3 Island Paradise Trailer and Screenshots

the-sims-3-island-paradise-01

The Sims 3 next expansion has gotten a trailer to showcase some of the new objects and features that the Sims will be able to enjoy while having their fun in the sun. From motorboats, to water skiing, to literal houseboats, the Sims will have plenty more to do in The Sims 3 Island Paradise. The expansion isn’t all recreation either as Sims can now try their hand at running a resort, should they get tired of the snorkeling, scuba diving, and exploring new islands.

Currently set for release on June 27th, 2013 for Australia and June 28th, 2013 for New Zealand, players that are interested in pre-ordering The Sims 3 Island Paradise can do so now and receive the Limited Edition with the Island Survival Pack. The Island Survival Pack, which can be seen in the picture above, adds objects to replicate being stranded on a deserted island.

Players can view the full sized screenshots by clicking on them in the gallery below as well as watch the trailer embedded below that.
