Cloudberry Kingdom Community Tournament Recap

cloudberry-kingdom-screenshot-07

Today, a few Capsule Computers editors managed to gather a few members of our fantastic and loyal community, head down to the Ubisoft offices in Sydney and participate in a very special event. We were all there to try out Cloudberry Kingdom (check out the review here), and see who would come out on top of the great little platformer; the guys who work for Ubisoft, the journalists from Capsule Computers, or the amazing community. The night was all about fun, and that vibe definitely resonated amongst the group in attendance. Everyone was laid back, relaxed and most importantly; ready to get their hands on a game that almost no one in attendance had played before.

The tournaments were run as 1v1 single elimination brackets, with the first player in each match to make it to the end of a level moving up to the next bracket. The first tournament was made specifically for our 8 community member VIPs for the evening to test their skill against one another. The first two competitors, calling themselves ‘TipsyToes” and “IceTray” jumped into Cloudberry for the first time ever, and were immediately faced with the realisation that the game’s difficulty setting of “Unpleasant” wasn’t just a cute joke, but a really apt description of the challenge ahead.

After being unable to successfully make their way through the gauntlet of obstacles, the difficulty was switched down to “Training,” where the two competed against each other in a sudden-death race to the finish. It was a close call, but eventually IceTray managed to pull out in front to win himself the first round.

The joy of Cloudberry Kingdom is that the levels are randomly generated, so you will never see the same level twice. It also means that even at the same difficulty setting, one level may be substantially harder than another. Round after round took place, and eventually we had reached the finals. It came down to IceTray, who after his stumbling start in the first round had managed a strong semi-final. Opposing him was DimSim, who had seemingly breezed through her first level only to stumble in her own semi-final. With the title on the line, the two charged through their level with vigor.

IceTray proved himself a gentleman as he made sure DimSim was ready for her respawn as he hit the checkpoint and progressed into the final section of their level. Unfortunately for him, the old saying of “nice guys finish last” reigned true. Both competitors were neck and neck as they reached the goal, but IceTray’s brief fumble of the controller at the finish line allowed DimSim to sneak in, claiming victory. DimSim and IceTray shook hands as a show of good sportsmanship, and were both rewarded with a $50 and $25 voucher respectively for their choice of PSN, XBLA or UbiShop.

After our community champion was crowned, it was time for Ubisoft and Capsule Computers to go toe to toe with each other. After two hard fought battles, the Capsule Computers Crew members; Andrew Day and Luke Halliday managed to triumph over the Ubisoft employees, literally “beating them at their own game,” and setting up for a Capsule Computers final.

“Have faith” – Pope of Cloudberry

It was a hard fought battle, but eventually Andrew (who was actually responsible for reviewing Cloudberry Kingdom a few weeks back) managed to break away and reach the finish line for not only the win and all the bragging rights associated with it, but also the right to challenge DimSim for the title of “King or Queen of Cloudberry Kingdom.”

Everyone in attendance agreed that “Unpleasant” was not good enough for the ultimate showdown, so the game was amped up a whole other level; to Abusive. After wishing each other good luck, the game began. Andrew and DimSim were ducking and weaving around lasers, spikes, spike-balls and fire balls as they made their way through the level. In the end though, it was Andrew who emerged victorious and took the crown as the King of Cloudberry Kingdom (actually I think you will find they awarded you the title of Queen of Cloudberry Kingdom).

As the night progressed, everyone in the crowd had found someone to cheer for and get behind. The jovial smack-talk from players and spectators a like was rampart, and everyone was getting involved and having a good time. Some of the more memorable character’s were Andrew’s “Pope of Cloudberry” in his white suite and mitre, or the Ubisoft-created “Monopoly Guy” wearing a Tophat and Monocle that screamed “I deserve to rule Cloudberry, because I am wealthy.”Despite its difficulty, Cloudberry Kingdom proved itself a hit with the group in attendance, who all left the Ubisoft offices with a smile on their face.

The night was also recorded by the guys over at Ubisoft, so you can watch our failures and triumphs in the very near future. If you haven’t done so yet, then you should definitely check out Cloudberry Kingdom, and be sure to like us on Facebook, and follow us on Twitter, because you never know when the next community event will arise. So, for all the Cloudberry Kingdom news as it becomes available, and for all the awesome community involvement, be sure to stay tuned to Capsule Computers.

Hikage-senran-kagura- (6)

It looks like XSEED Games is teasing a new game announcement over Twitter again. This isn’t the first time the company has done this, as just a month ago they did the same thing before announcing that they were going to be bringing Senran Kagura Burst to North America.

Many may guess that it has something to do with Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus, but considering Burst hasn’t been released yet, this is likely not the case. Instead it may have something to do with The Legend of Heroes series. Anyways, check out the current teaser images below and keep an eye out for more news as it becomes available.

Kill La Kill Anime To Get A Manga Adaptation

Kill-la-Kill-01

The Trigger-produced Anime series has yet to be released yet it has just been announced through the October Issue of Kadokawa Shoten’s Young Ace Magazine that a Manga adaptation for the, so far unreleased, Anime Kill La Kill will be launching with it’s first chapter in the next issue of the magazine which will be on the 4th of October. The Manga will be following the same story as the Anime, obviously with slight differences which is practically the norm for this kind of thing, and will be drawn by artist Ryou Akizuki famous for Asura Cryin’ and Uchuu no Stellvia.

For those of you that are unaware of Kill La Kill, the Official Synopsis of the series is as follows:

The story is set on a high school that the student council president Satsuki Kiryūin rules by force. Wielding a giant Basami scissors sword, the wandering transfer student Ryūko Matoi brings about upheaval on the campus. Ryūko searches for the mysterious figure who caused her father’s death, but confronting her are the student council’s “four divine kings.” Fortunately, Ryūko is aided by a talking sailor uniform who tells her, “Wear me. When I am worn by you, this power will become manifest.”

It is made by the same legendary team that previously created the Anime series Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, to fans of that series much like myself that in itself means that Kill La Kill is going to be an action-driven, crazy-storied, mental-nuke of an Anime (and now Manga) that will prove to impress on all fronts. We’re all very excited for it’s release in October, both the Anime and the Manga. Stay tuned for all news and information to be released in the coming weeks.

Attack On Titan 3DS Game – First Screenshots Released

Hey! Why don't you let off...a little steam!
Hey! Why don’t you let off…a little steam!

This game has been a fairly big topic lately, at least it has been here on the Anime side of Capsule Computers, we’re all wondering what type of game it will be and we’re all trying our best a guessing what it should be like and letting everyone else know why our ideas are the best for it. Bessatsu Shonen Magazine had a small preview for the game in it’s latest issue so now we have some screenshots from the game itself and it is looking really nice! The Attack On Titan 3DS game, which so far has gone unnamed, looks fairly cinematic and seems to keep to the same style as the anime series in it’s aesthetics.

The game is being developed by Spike Chunsoft (Danganronpa: Trigger happy Havoc, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: gates To Infinity) and is said to have a Story Mode wherein which the players will be able to recreate scenes from the Anime and Manga series with Eren as the lead, you’ll fight alongside other soldiers and main characters as you take down the Titans one by one. The development team boast that players will be overwhelmed with the action and breathtaking sense of speed within the game, let’s just hope they deliver considering the Anime has already raised such a high bar.

The “3D Maneuver Action Game“, as it’s been put, will have different scenarios within the game, for example; scenarios where the player must race to the aid of a fellow soldier as he or she is in the grasp of a Titan, the player must dash to the enemy and cut of their arms therefore freeing the captured soldier. The game is set to “ship” for the 3DS sometime later this year but as of right now this is literally all the information we have so keep an eye on the site for any and all news and information to be released.

This game looks like it is going to become a huge hit among MOBA game fans and fans of DC comics alike. Ubisoft Australia Lets Fans Make their own 3D Characters in Contest

Ubisoft Australia has decided to make use of their new content studio Drifter to give something back to the fans in the form of a contest. The kind of contest that not only celebrates Ubisoft’s list of great characters, but let’s fans make their own. Working with Heckler, Ubisoft Australia and Drifter have set up a website where fans can create a full designed character from armor, to weapons, to other additions.

So, after fans have made their best creations winners will be chosen weekly, where winners will receive the latest Ubisoft games for the console of their choice, and monthly, where winners will also get 3D printed model of their character, for the next 6 months. Though as this from Ubisoft Australia, only residents from Australia and New Zealand will be eligible to win, but anyone can still make a character.

Those wanting to check out the contest and see about making their own characters can head over to the official website, then see if they have what it takes to make the next Sam Fisher, Assassin’s Creed assassin, or Rayman (well maybe not Rayman).
