Game Masters: The Exhibition coming to Sydney

game-masters-exhibition-04

Gamers around the world have often hotly debated the topic of are Video Games art? The response you might give to this sort of question is often based on what you consider to be inspiring, memorable or thought-provoking.  In the history of the industry, I’m sure everyone has at least one title or franchise that has stood out to them as a work of art, for graphics, story or otherwise. But you never really see much in the way of an appreciation of this, especially in Australia, where the industry is still budding. The Game Masters Exhibition sets out to change this.

If you haven’t yet heard of it yet, Game Masters is an internationally renowned exhibition that celebrates the work of some of the biggest names in gaming, from Hideo Kojima, to Tim Schafer, to Peter Molyneux to Yuji Naka. The event, sponsored by the Australian Centre for Moving Images (ACMI), will showcase some of the biggest video games and development memorabilia from the past 30 years.

The exhibit itself will feature hundreds of playable console, arcade and mobile ports of the biggest video games from the early 80’s up until the modern day. The exhibit will also showcase unseen and rare concept art, exclusive interviews with game designers and interactive and informative displays highlighting the development process. If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes in the creation process of legendary titles like Mario, Legend of Zelda, Sonic the Hedgehog, Metal Gear Solid, and many more, then attending this exhibit should be a no brainer. The exhibit is advertised to be divided into three sections:

  • Arcade Heroes, which will look at the pioneering games of the arcade-age of the 80’s.
  • Game Changers, which celebrate and showcases the big titles, innovations and leap forwards that defined the future direction of the industry.
  • Indies, which highlights the increasing popularity and role of independent game development in the modern market.

As you probably read in the title of this article, the Game Masters Exhibition will indeed be heading to Sydney during the upcoming holiday period. On show at the Sydney Powerhouse Museum from the 13th of December 2013 until the 25th of May 2014, there’s plenty of time to get around to check out the exhibit. This will be a big event to cap of a pretty big year in Australian gaming culture.

Any self-respecting gaming fan should make an effort to check it out. The exhibit highlights not only the great gaming achievements of the past, but also raises awareness of the gaming medium as an increasingly popular art form and element of our popular culture. I would encourage you to check it out for yourself if you can, to show your support for the industry in Australia, and to have a fun time doing it.

Nintendo 3DS Guide: Louvre Now Available On The eShop

Nintendo-3DS-Guide-Louvre-01

It was only a year or so ago when Nintendo and the very famous Louvre Museum in Paris partnered up for something that had been, so far, unheard of. Basically the idea was that people touring the Louvre Museum would be loaned 3DS Devices running a software that would work as a highly interactive museum guide.

It took off big time and museum goers were absolutely loving it, it’s a fantastic idea and because of the fact that you do not need 3D glasses to use the 3DS it made sense to implement the system into the experience of the museum itself. Today marks the day that the guide software used in the Louvre becomes available to the world through the Nintendo eShop. It is an enhanced version of the software and has so much to offer for those unable to make the hefty trip to Paris.

Nintendo-3DS-Guide-Louvre-02

Nintendo 3DS Guide: Louvre comes with over 600 images of famous artwork and nearly 30 hours of audio commentary which explain all the information to do with certain artworks like the artists, the mediums, the processes and the all around history of the piece. There is also over 400 images of just the museums interior alone which is partnered up with large set of panoramic photos that add to the all over experience of the software.

Around 150 of the artwork images will be 3D models that can be shifted around and inspected from a great deal of different angles, there will also be a fully interactive map provided which will give details on all of the exhibits and take you through the museum itself. For those NOT able to visit the museum and are using their software from a remote location you will have the choice to update the game every so often, doing this will add new exhibits and artworks to your software so that you can keep entirely up to date with the museum itself.

Nintendo-3DS-Guide-Louvre-03

There will be different tours and mini-guides for you to go through within the game that properly emulate the guides and tours that are being done within the louvre at the time. There is also a line of mini-games for children to play that centre around exhibitions like the Ancient Egyptians, those too are updated over time.

The software also works in conjunction with the museum itself, if you own the game and go for a tour to the physical Louvre you can hook up your system to the Wi-Fi and switch into “Visit The Louvre Mode” wherein which your software will convert into the exact same software which is present on the systems given out for lone at the museum. Nintendo 3DS Guide: Louvre is now available on the Nintendo eShop and will go for $26 so if you’re interested in artworks, museums or virtual guides themselves, this is the software for you.

Using the graphics engine of Total War: Rome II, the Perils of Empire video outlines how three entire Roman legions were annihilated in one battle and highlights the risks of an overstretched empire that bit off more than it could chew.

SEGA released the strategy giant Total War: Rome II earlier in September for the PC. Have a look at our review in case you missed it here.

INSURGENCY GOES ON SALE WITH MASSIVE GAMEPLAY UPDATES AND IMPROVEMENTS

INSURGENCY GOES ON SALE WITH MASSIVE GAMEPLAY UPDATES AND IMPROVEMENTS

Get Into the Fight With INSURGENCY Now On
Steam’s Autumn Sale at $9.99

Denver, CO — November 27, 2013 — New World Interactive (NWI) revealed today a slew of new updates to its upcoming, intensely gritty, first-person shooter INSURGENCY. The update features new weapons and coop missions, as well as many new gameplay improvements. Gamers can enjoy this thrilling, indie first-person shooter on sale this week as part of Steam’s Autumn Sale for $9.99 starting today, November 27, until Tuesday, December 3.

“There are some nice additions to the game that have recently gone in,” says Jeremy Blum, Founder and Game Director at New World Interactive. “Personally I am most excited about the new recoil systems we implemented which add vibration and inertia to the weapons. The result is a much more rewarding sensation when operating weaponry in the game. In addition to this, we have made strides to improve our game economy and the way our supply system works, adding an element of asymmetry by providing Security and Insurgent forces with unique advantages. For example, Security’s game economy is more geared around armor and precision while the Insurgent economy is geared around quickness and firepower. The tradeoff makes playing each team a unique experience, and emphasizes the qualities that make these factions distinct while still providing a balanced gameplay experience.”

New World Interactive has recently updated the INSURGENCY website (http://www.playinsurgency.com) to contain updated information about the game’s features and thorough explanation how each of the modes work. The main unique multiplayer game mode that INSURGENCY boasts is in its Skirmish mode, which is near-final in this most recent update and described as follows: five objectives can be secured to prolong a team’s survival and each objective secured provides the team with additional reinforcements.  Skirmish matches often become an epic tug of war, as both teams struggle to gain control of the map. The balance of momentum easily shifts based upon a team’s strategy, where a crucial flanking maneuver can lead your team to a team’s swift victory.

In addition to the Skirmish mode described above, INSURGENCY offers other unique multiplayer and cooperative modes for differing play styles. One of the most popular modes in the game is VIP Escort, where one team must escort a high value player-controlled target to an extraction point while the other must ambush and eliminate this target. There are also two Search & Destroy based game modes for those interested in sabotage-type objectives and some greatly improved cooperative missions for a less competitive environment with some friends against challenging AI.

INSURGENCY supports up to 32-plus players for Windows®PC, Mac OS X (and later Linux), using Valve’s Source Engine and is distributed through the Steam platform. Take to the streets for intense close-quarters combat, where a team’s survival depends on securing crucial strongholds and destroying enemy supply. The follow-up game to the award-winning Source Mod, INSURGENCY is highly competitive and unforgivingly lethal, striking a balance between one-life gameplay and prolonged action.

One Piece Unlimited World Red – Three More Boss Fight Trailers Released

One-Piece-Unlimited-World-Red-01

Namco Bandai have been rolling out all the good stuff over the past couple weeks with their video and information releases regarding the brand-new One Piece game for the Nintendo 3DS; Unlimited World Red. It seems as though, almost weekly, we’re given another video, set of videos or new information regarding the new title and, considering the game has already been released in Japan, I would have thought the releases would be over, well I was wrong because they’ve begun streaming another three short videos that show off three more bosses which are fightable in-game.

Trafalgar Law, Dracule Mihawk and Boa Hancock are the three bosses that are shown within the videos and, I have to say, these fights are looking fantastic! All the One Piece fans outside of Japan, including myself, are hoping that this game gets a Western Release because it’s looking like the “next big thing” but for now all we have are these videos to get us through until we’re given our game. All three of them are below so head down and enjoy them, don’t forget to hit up our comments section too so you can let your voice be heard!
