Sony Celebrates 10th Anniversary of SingStar™ with Announcement of Next Generation PlayStation®4 Edition

SYDNEY, 22nd May, 2014 – Sony Computer Entertainment Australia (SCE Aust.) is today celebrating the 10 year anniversary of one of the biggest selling music properties of all time, SingStar™, by announcing an innovative redesign including a companion app for the next generation of social singers as well as a new compilation disc for PlayStation®3 and PlayStation®4. Engineered to get the party started, the new version, which goes live later this year, includes a free companion app which turns your iOS/Android phone into a microphone and will mean there is no limit to the number of friends who can join the fun. The exciting new 30 track compilation disc of the much-loved singing brand is titled SingStar™: Ultimate Party and will be available later this year for the first time ever on PlayStation®4.

Dave Ranyard, Studio Director of SCEE WWS comments on the legacy of SingStar™, “I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since we first launched SingStar – it’s great to see how popularity of the brand has grown over the decade with 26 million discs now sold worldwide and 25 million tracks downloaded. Back in 2004 we were really breaking new ground, there weren’t really any party or social games around at that stage and the idea of singing into a console was very new! But we’ve always said, people love singing together – and SingStar has always delivered and continues to deliver on the promise of enabling social singing. What’s really exciting about today is that we’re announcing a reinvention of SingStar, this time for the digital generation!”

The impressive social features of PS4 are at the heart of SingStar™. Players can share their favourite game play moments with the SingStar™ community and out to Twitter and Facebook® instantly from the game. Score challenges allow players to connect online with friends from the PSN community.

We know SingStar™ fans love to dress up and share irreverent social moments and the PS4 camera enables new augmented reality features whereby players can turn their lounge rooms into music sets and adopt their favourite music personas from a range of AR masks.

Players can now earn experience and receive rewards for in game activity, and an improved scoring system gives the new version of the classic game a refreshing edge.

Plus, the free app gives players the chance to manage their playlists and queue up the best tracks to ensure the fun never stops.

Chris Bruce, Game Director of SingStar™ adds, “I’m really excited about the new SingStar as we’ve really worked hard to bring the game right up to date for PS4 with a brand new look and feature set. The new microphone app means SingStar is now for everyone, and we’re looking forward to introducing a new generation of singers to the brand. Personally I can’t wait to see some of the new videos the community will be sharing. They never fail to surprise us with their inventiveness, so who knows what they’re going to do with the new PS4 camera and augmented reality effects…. it’s sure to be entertaining!”

Fans can personalise their music experience by downloading songs from the SingStore®, from pop to rock to hip-hop, with music from the likes of P!NK, REM and Bruno Mars among many more. Players can refresh their existing collection of tracks with the latest new music or start a brand new collection. A consistently low price point for songs and song packs can be expected across the board with the single song price as AUD$2.05 and the song pack price for 5 songs as AUD$9.55.

The SingStar™ Ultimate Party discs which will be released on PS3 and PS4 will be offered at an impressively low price point, with a recommended retail price of AUD$39.95. The discs afford even more value with an impressive selection of epic top tracks all in the one place so players can start the party straight away.

With more than 26 million copies sold worldwide in the past 10 years, SingStar™ is one of the biggest selling music properties of all time eclipsing Adele’s 21 album and Coldplay’s Parachutes. Some of the hottest selling tracks over the years have included Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe, Adele’s Rolling in the Deep and Tenacious D’s Tribute.

Sony Computer Entertainment will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of SingStar™ throughout the year with loads of new tracks and opportunities for fans to get involved, so watch this space! Keep up with the latest news at SingStar.com, on Twitter @SingStarHQ and on Facebook.com/SingStar

Far Cry 4’s story details leaked by Ubisoft

Far-Cry-4-Promotional-Art-02

Far Cry 4 was announced about a week ago and it took only an hour or two before a certain subset of the online community decided to gather their pitchforks and torches and try to tear the game apart thanks to one piece of artwork as they tend to do lately. Anyways now that a week has passed Ubisoft has ended up revealing some story information thanks to the game’s listing on their own store.

It has since been taken down but not before Metro was able to snag the important details which can be seen below:

Hidden in the majestic Himalayas lies Kyrat, a country steeped in tradition and violence. You are Ajay Ghale. Traveling to Kyrat to fulfill your mother’s dying wish, you find yourself caught up in a civil war to overthrow the oppressive regime of dictator Pagan Min.

Explore and navigate this vast open world, where danger and unpredictability lurk around every corner. Here, every decision counts, and every second is a story. Welcome to Kyrat.

Also it is worth noting that the game’s creative director Alex Hutchinson has stated that the man with the white hair in the promo art is not caucasion nor is it the protagonist in the game so it is probably time to chill out for a bit.

K-ON! Season 1 to be released by Sentai Filmworks in September

k-on-screenshot-01

If you were paying attention to anime back in 2009 then there is a real good chance you’ve seen or heard of K-ON! in some form as the series was incredibly popular and able to spawn a second season and a movie.

However while all three of these products were released in North America, the first season of K-ON! is hard to come by now mostly due to the fact that unlike the second season and the movie, it was licensed by Bandai Entertainment who folded back in 2012. As such Sentai Filmworks has announced that they have license rescued the first season and they are planning on releasing it on DVD with both an English and Japanese voice track in September.

Battle Royale: Angel’s Border to be released in North America in mid-June

battle-royale-angels-border-cover-artMany of you are probably familiar with Koushun Takami’s classic novel Battle Royale and if not then you should probably read it. Anyways, today Viz Media has announced that they will be releasing Battle Royale: Angel’s Border digitally and in print on June 17th in North America.

Battle Royale: Angel’s Border is being printed under the Viz Signature label and the print version will cost $12.99 US while the digital version will cost $8.99. This is a one-shot manga, and the author’s first work in over a decade, that expands the Battle Royale story by focusing on Yukie Utsumi and the rest of the girls in the story as it reveals for the first time the full story and the terrible demise of the girls in the lighthouse that was a memorable moment in the original novel and live-action movie.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Battle Royale story, it involves a class of junior high students being taken to a deserted island where they must kill one another with weaponry they are provided until only one survivor is left standing and allowed to leave the island.

dynasty-warriors-gundam-musou-pre-order-screenshot- (3)

As usual, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam Reborn will have a number of pre-order bonuses and today Tecmo Koei revealed what gamers will get if they happen to pre-order the title from specific retailers. First gamers who pre-order the title through GAME will be given a variation of the MSM-04 Acguy mobile suit which is the GPB-04B Beargguy, shown above. This suit has extendable claws and despite looking cute it is a force to be reckoned with.

Pre-orders through other independent retailers, through Centresoft, will be given an extra battle scenario where players will fight against The Red Comet and the Crimson Lightning. Dynasty Warriors: Gundam Reborn is currently set to be released in Europe on June 27th while the North American release is scheduled for July 1st.

Nintendo & PDP to Release Gamecube-Inspired Wii U Controllers

gamecube-controller-screenshot-01Are you one of those Smash Bros. players who finds it better to play with a Gamecube controller than anything Nintendo has to offer (I know I am)? Well you are in luck! Today Nintendo announced that they will be partnering with the third party gaming accessories manufacturer PDP to create a line of Gamecube-inspired Wii U controllers.

The controllers will be molded to have the shape and feel of the 2001 console’s ergonomic controller. They will also attach to the bottom of your Wii-Mote via a long cord so you can still get that nostalgic feeling. The controllers will retail at US$29.99 and should be available around the time that Super Smash Bros. Wii U hits store shelves.

You will be able to play this as it is meant to be played! With a Gamecube controller!

I personally think that the Gamecube’s controller is one of the most well-designed in gaming history and cannot wait to play through my Wii U library with it in my hands. What do you think, is the Gamecube controller’s comback a good thing or is the Wii U Pro Controller enough? First Promotional Video For “Mushibugyo” OVA Released

Mushibugyo-OVA-Screenshot-01

News on the anime series “Mushibugyo” has been quite scarce for what seems like ages now. There tends to be a lull period for anime series once they finish their broadcast runs but it usually doesn’t last all that long, which brings me to the main point of this article: Shogakukan Productions today announced that an OVA for the high-octane series will come paired with the 15th volume of the”Joju Senjin!! Mushibugyo” manga.

Alongside the announcement of the OVA comes a promotional video trailer that teases the upcoming animation while also briefly describing the story to be told within it. It is set after the events of the “Mushibugyo” anime series and has the main characters return to Edo once again.

A new character is to be introduced in the OVA and he goes by the name Torakichi, a young boy who wishes to become a samurai in order to protect his family. Head down to our featured video section below to check out the “Mushibugyo” OVA promotional trailer and don’t forget to hit up our comments section to let us know what you think.

First Poster for Disney’s Big Hero 6

big-hero-6-logo-01

Disney’s upcoming animated feature Big Hero 6 is an interesting creature for sure. Originally a Marvel comic-book, Big Hero 6 centers around the fictional metropolis of San Fransokyo where a young robotics prodigy and his creation must team-up with a group of inexperienced heroes to save the world. Its wacky and often left-field story means that it is a perfect fit for Disney Animation Studios to turn into a live-action movie. Well the movie is set to rocket into theaters later this year, and today the guys over at the House of Mouse have given us a slight teaser for the film in the form of this poster:

Coming off the success of Wreck-it-Ralph and Frozen, it almost seems like Disney Animation can do no wrong at the moment. Combining their talent with the awesome and unique story of Big Hero 6 will hopefully lead to another home-run. Big Hero 6 should be hitting a theater near you around November, so make sure you stay tuned to Capsule Computers for all the Disney and Marvel news as it becomes available.
