The Merlies, a heartwarming adventure celebrating curiosity, care, and the joy of small things, is out now on Steam and Switch!

0

Meet the Merlies, a curious colony of tiny birds with big personalities and an even bigger desire to explore a post-apocalyptic Solarpunk world!

September 29, 2026 – ARTE and French studio Darjeeling Productions are delighted to announce that The Merlies, a charming and curiosity-driven “wholesomevania” adventure, is now available on Steam and Switch! The Merlies invites players to step into a colourful world filled with playful interactions, gentle exploration, and delightful surprises hiding in everyday places…

In The Merlies, players discover a world just out of sight – a wild, overgrown landscape built from the leftover fragments of human civilization. Electric cables become climbing routes, fallen billboards turn into terrain, and everyday objects take on new purpose – a lamp becomes a cosy house, an ice cube tray a store room. Through it all, the Merlies – tiny, expressive birds – react to their surroundings and to one another, turning exploration into moments of joy and discovery.

The Merlies encourages experimentation and curiosity over high-pressure situations. There are no enemies to defeat or timers to race against – instead, players navigate a wild, obstacle-filled world at their own pace, using each Merlies’ unique ability to climb, jump, and uncover hidden passageways. Along the way, they collect scraps of forgotten human junk and upcycle them into comforts for their growing village – because for the Merlies, the key to happiness is doing a lot, with a little.

With its handcrafted art direction, tactile interactions, and warm, immersive sound design, The Merlies creates a comforting space that invites players to slow down and reconnect with a sense of wonder. Every detail is designed to reward curiosity and spark imagination, making the experience accessible and meaningful for both children and adults.

Developed by Darjeeling Productions, known for expressive and emotionally resonant interactive projects, The Merlies reflects the studio’s passion for playful storytelling and thoughtful world-building. The launch marks a new chapter for the studio, delivering an experience that blends warmth, creativity, and gentle discovery.

For ARTE, The Merlies continues a long-standing commitment to publishing innovative, artistic games that explore new forms of storytelling and interaction.

The Merlies is available now for Steam and Switch – inviting players everywhere to look a little closer, slow down, and discover the magic hidden in small things.

Face the Prophet of Decay and Delve into Warhammer 40,000: Darktide’s New Free Update – Depths of the Damned!

0

A stacked free update for the brutal co-op action shooter is available now on Steam, PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, featuring a new mission, new weapons and a formidable new boss lurking within uncharted Hive territory.

Stockholm Sweden, September 29th, 2026 – Announced earlier this month, the Depths of the Damned update hits the sprawling reaches of Tertium today! Introducing Spillway, a new mission which sees Strike Teams battling through the treacherous labyrinth of Tertium’s Water Cartel territory. There’s more than just chaos festering in the forgotten passages in the deepest recesses of the hive. Every step through the winding tunnels leads players closer to a monstrously corrupted psyker boss encounter – The Prophet of Decay.

Strike Teams won’t be descending towards the horrors beneath empty-handed, with six new weapons added to Tertium’s arsenal. Depths of the Damned launches alongside an all live event, new premium cosmetics and a range of quality of life improvements.

  • Spillway Mission: The new mission sends players into the deep and dangerous recesses of an unseen area of the Hive. The notorious domain of Tertium’s Water Cartel is a sprawling labyrinth of tunnels, waterways and forgotten passages, crawling with chaos, decay and threats best left undisturbed. Spillway’s journey is far from straightforward. Strike teams must choose their paths wisely, some routes are more perilous than others…but all lead to something truly horrible.
  • The Prophet of Decay Has Arrived: Lurking within the deepest recesses of the Hive, the powerful Psyker awaits Strike Teams who dare enter his domain. Purging Tertium of the Prophet’s corruption will take more than just brute force. Only wits, teamwork and firepower will see anyone survive the fight.
  • An Expanded Arsenal: New weapons have arrived in Darktide! Players will be able to wield three new weapon marks and three new weapon families, which are accessible to a range of in-game classes. The new weapon families include the Ogryn Cruncher, Huntsman’s Shotgun and the Ogryn Thugshot. For the new weapon marks Darktide has introduced the Crusher Krourk MK VII, Double-Barrelled Shotgun Krouk Mk IV, Gromm Mk I Battle Maul and the Mk V Slab Shield.
  • Balance & Talent Tree Updates: Depths of the Damned also brings a range of balance changes across Darktide’s classes and weapons, aimed at continually improving and refining the core gameplay experience. Amongst these changes class talent trees have been refined, removing minor stat boosts and giving players more freedom to invest their talent points in impactful abilities. A full detailed breakdown of the changes can be found on the Fatshark Forum.
  • Allies and Adversaries Live Event: The new monthly event sees Interrogator Rannick lending aid to Grendyl’s allies. Over three missions, players eventually descend into the depths of the Torrent to help the Ragged King with a particularly worrying problem…
  • New Commodore Vestures: The brave soldiers of the Cadian 512th and Krieg 158th have joined the battle and will be available in the premium store from today! These storied regiments have amassed a great number of victories between them.

Depths of the Damned is available now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S – The Prophet of Decay is waiting…

The God-Emperor’s Blessed — Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy Reveals Lord Captain Aspyce Chorda

0

Woe to those who dare stand in the way of the God-Emperor’s chosen

Nicosia, Cyprus (September TBD 2026) | Today, Owlcat Games revealed a new companion character inquisitors will meet in Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy: Lord Captain Aspyce Chorda, a renowned Rogue Trader with a fearsome reputation and a penchant for relieving her boredom in unusual and brutal ways. When she finds herself conveniently involved in an Inquisitorial investigation, the Lord Captain will not pass up this opportunity to snuff out her ennui.

Lord Captain Chorda’s status as a Rogue Trader and her lineage that traces back to a noble Scintillan dynasty, afford her access to refinements mere commoners could only dream of. Yet even with all manner of dazzling entertainment at her disposal, Chorda has found herself…dreadfully bored. Cut off from her domain in the Koronus Expanse, she joins the Inquisition as a surefire measure to find some entertainment.

Her confidence and social skills make her a valuable companion when it comes to charming and convincing conversation partners and her knowledge of Xenos lore, which some detractors might call heretical, also has its uses. In combat she is a powerful Officer, boosting ally morale and making enemies cower before her. But she is also perfectly able to get more directly involved with both melee and ranged weapons and even by dual wielding them.

Chorda can already be recruited in the Dark Heresy beta, available to everyone who has purchased one of the Founder’s Packs on the website.

Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy launches on Windows PC via Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store, and consoles via PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom Gameplay Unveiled in 17-Minute Dev Diary Detailing Combat, Character Progression, and More

0

First look at the 2027 PC MMORPG

Seongnam, South Korea — September 29, 2026 | Kakao Games has released the first in a planned series of developer diaries on the making of ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom. The 17-minute video gives players an insight into some of ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom’s interconnected systems, on top of a first look at never-before-seen gameplay.

Watch Developer Documentary: The First Step into a New World below:

In The First Step into a New World, executive producer Kyung-tae Kim — who also served as planning lead and producer on the original ArcheAge — outlines the possibilities available to the player in the upcoming PC MMORPG. Character progression, combat, and choices are all connected: decisions made early in the game that are initially thought to be minor can escalate into large-scale faction warfare and open-sea naval battles.

Competitive modes range from party and guild skirmishes to server-wide PvP battles, featuring rotating server matchups to prevent long-term faction imbalances. Players can also craft their own combat styles by combining skill sets that are tied to different weapons and armour, allowing them to approach battles however they wish.

Away from the action, players can upgrade their character via field hunting, gathering, and more. Additionally, the resources they’ve earned via crafting and trade can fuel character growth in their own in-game housing spaces.

After working on the original game in the series, composer Yoon Sang is back to share his creative process as music director on ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom. In The First Step into a New World, fans can learn about how Sang created the soundtrack to elements like the romance of exploration and high-stakes naval combat.

Alongside the release of The First Step into a New World, Kakao Games is launching a community Q&A where players can ask the development team anything they’d like about ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom. A select number of questions will be answered by the team in a future video. Players can submit their questions on YouTube.

ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom is targeting a worldwide PC launch in Q2 2027.

Cryptid-collecting deck-building auto battler Portentum launches on Early Access October 28th

0

Watch the gameplay trailer, featuring Mothman, Bigfoot, the Jersey Devil, and Jimothy!

Salt Lake City, USA, September 29th, 2026 – Snowfall Games is proud to announce their upcoming cryptid deck-building auto-battler Portentum will launch on Steam Early Access October 28th, where it will be free-to-play. Portentum combines original hand-drawn cryptid artwork with deep deck-building strategy, letting you hunt for broken combos using legendary creatures from around the world, like Bigfoot, the Jersey Devil, Mothman, the Chupacabra, and of course, Jimothy. If somebody’s uncle saw it in the woods in 1973, there’s a good chance it’s a card in Portentum!

The rules of Portentum are simple: assemble a warband and win 10 rounds of battle. Build your deck of 30 cards, each containing a cryptid or mushrooms, then make strategic decisions with each hand you’re dealt, as you compete against another player’s warband.

Wishlist on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4836460/Portentum

Each cryptid is equipped with its own unique ability to deal damage, heal, summon a minion, manipulate the dice, and many other one-of-a-kind effects. Abilities can trigger upon a roll of the dice, another ally taking damage, or an enemy healing an ally. There are endless combinations and broken strategies to be discovered.

Once you’ve assembled your deck, head to the shop to deal a hand from your selected deck for that run. Spend gold to play cards from your hand, mobilize a five-slot warband, and then send your squad of monsters out to fight! Win ten rounds to achieve victory. Lose five, and you’re out.

Portentum’s meta is ever-evolving, as every warband you create joins the pool that other players face. As you keep playing and earning card packs, entirely new deck-building possibilities and obscenely killer combos will enter the fray, providing an endless array of strategic possibilities and challenges!

Portentum’s meta progression is built around long-term collection growth and competitive ladder play. Expand your card pool through booster packs, earned through gameplay or purchased via the game’s virtual currency system. These cards feed directly into both deck construction and strategic experimentation. This structure is supported by an asynchronous PvP system that removes queues and timers entirely, allowing you to engage in competitive matches at your own pace across multiple platforms and play sessions.

“We debuted Portentum to PAX West attendees earlier this month and drew an excited crowd through all four days of the event, with the most common question being: when’s it coming out?!“ Many said it would be a great Halloween game, which was what we’d been thinking anyway, so we’re going to launch Portentum on October 28th,” said Jaden Holladay, Co-Founder and Engineering Director at Snowfall Games. “Better yet, you won’t need to wait that long to try it, as we’ll have a demo available during Steam Next Fest running October 19th-26th, so you can start your next cryptid-collecting, card-battling pastime very soon!”

Coal Duty: Free Co-Op Horror Demo Hits Steam Oct 8 Ahead of Next Fest

0

ISTANBUL, TÜRKIYE — September 28, 2026. The sky froze over three generations ago. The State kept the mines open, and now it needs volunteers. Coal Duty is a 1-5 player co-op extraction horror-comedy from Corecrew Games. Its free demo goes live on Steam on Thursday, October 8. Keys are available to press and content creators now, ahead of the public launch.

Most extraction games are about what you carry out. Coal Duty is about what you can hear. The game runs on proximity voice chat, so a crew can only hear each other at close range, and so can everything else in the tunnels. Calling out a route, warning a friend about the thing around the corner and screaming all carry exactly the same distance. Some of the creatures down there are blind. Some are fast. Some look like coal until they don’t.

Every shift drops the crew into a freshly generated mine with one instruction: meet the State coal quota. Push deeper and the haul improves, and so does the company. Tickets earned on delivery are the only currency the State recognizes, and whatever a crew chooses not to report stays between them and the dark. Between shifts, miners return to a persistent hub with barracks, a workshop, a tavern and a smuggler working out of a restricted area the State does not officially acknowledge. It is also where escape plans get made, and there is more than one way out.

The demo is a real slice of the core loop. Crews get a full run of six trips into the Medium mine floor, enough to take on two quotas, along with a first look at the creature roster and the hub between shifts. The Easy and Hard floors, the rest of the creatures, the escape machine and the game’s multiple endings are held back for Early Access.

The quota is set, the lift is waiting. The Coal Duty demo launches free on Steam on October 8 and will be playable throughout Steam Next Fest, October 19 to 26. Early Access news to come.
