First look at the 2027 PC MMORPG
Seongnam, South Korea — September 29, 2026 | Kakao Games has released the first in a planned series of developer diaries on the making of ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom. The 17-minute video gives players an insight into some of ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom’s interconnected systems, on top of a first look at never-before-seen gameplay.

In The First Step into a New World, executive producer Kyung-tae Kim — who also served as planning lead and producer on the original ArcheAge — outlines the possibilities available to the player in the upcoming PC MMORPG. Character progression, combat, and choices are all connected: decisions made early in the game that are initially thought to be minor can escalate into large-scale faction warfare and open-sea naval battles.
Competitive modes range from party and guild skirmishes to server-wide PvP battles, featuring rotating server matchups to prevent long-term faction imbalances. Players can also craft their own combat styles by combining skill sets that are tied to different weapons and armour, allowing them to approach battles however they wish.
Away from the action, players can upgrade their character via field hunting, gathering, and more. Additionally, the resources they’ve earned via crafting and trade can fuel character growth in their own in-game housing spaces.
After working on the original game in the series, composer Yoon Sang is back to share his creative process as music director on ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom. In The First Step into a New World, fans can learn about how Sang created the soundtrack to elements like the romance of exploration and high-stakes naval combat.
Alongside the release of The First Step into a New World, Kakao Games is launching a community Q&A where players can ask the development team anything they’d like about ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom.
