The Legend of Zelda: Tri-Force Heroes Hands-On Preview

the-legend-of-zelda-triforce-heroes-logo

Nintendo has quite a line-up of highly anticipated games coming out in the next couple of months, and by far the one that looks the most unique is The Legend of Zelda: Tri-Force Heroes. As a huge Zelda fan, I knew that I had to get my hands on with this three-player co-op adventure.

Tri-Force Heroes is in many ways a spiritual successor to Four Swords (many of you will remember that game as a free download for the Nintendo DS) and for the most part plays rather similarly. You take control of one of three Links, where you have to work together with two others in order to solve puzzles, slay enemies and progress through. The game also has you paired up with two other allies, for a total of three players at the same time (a bit of an unusual number of players to say the least.)

One thing that really makes Tri-Force Heroes stand out from other Zelda games (including Four Swords) is the fact that the here Links can pick each other up, allowing access to new heights and new tactics for combat. The first boss we encountered needed to be hit from various heights, requiring the three players to work in tandem to defeat it.

I personally had a bit of a problem when playing Tri-Force Heroes in that the 3DS’ smaller screen, and fact that you had to not only keep track of yourself but also what your allies were doing meant that the game felt a little cluttered and disjointed at times. Especially when trying to coordinate to one Link to move out of the way, while hoping that your “tower” of heroes will still be in a good enough spot to attack the enemy. It all got a bit confusing and I’m honestly surprised we managed to get through the level.

Now I can’t be too critical of Tri-Force Heroes, because when I was playing it was with a couple of people that I haven’t met before, and this is absolutely not a game that is designed for that style of play. This is the kind of game that relies on you having open and frequent communication with your two partners. So while I didn’t have too much fun this time around, I can see a lot of potential with Tri-Force Heroes and I am holding out hope that the full version, when played with people I know well, will be an absolute blast.

London, United Kingdom — October 7th, 2015 — Other Games has today announced that they will be expanding the beta for digital science fiction strategy board game Galaxy of Trian to include up to 3000 more testers. Beta testers will be able to experience the game’s newly added multiplayer functions first-hand before the game’s expected launch in January 2016.

“We’re all big board game buffs here at Other Games”, explains Piotr Zygadlo, Studio Director on Galaxy of Trian. “We have a lot of respect for the source material, and we want to make sure we do it justice. Expanding the beta to fully test the multiplayer allows us to pick the minds of our core players in order to really make this game into the digital experience it deserves to be.”

The Galaxy of Trian strategy board game was originally funded through Kickstarter, raising $130,396 over a thirty day crowdfunding campaign. In Other Games’ digital incarnation, players select from one of four races and play against others as they stake claim over undiscovered areas of the galaxy.

In Galaxy of Trian players face series of battles competing for galactic supremacy. Single player mode includes custom matches against AI and a full campaign mode, and in multiplayer gamers can engage hot-seat mode, all taking turns sharing one device. Online play is also available via server mode, allowing players to challenge their friends to see who is the best strategist!

Taking into consideration the deeply strategy driven audience, additional planned features include a complex ranking system and online match-making to test your wit against random players of the same level.

Galaxy of Trian will launch as a free-to-play game on PC, Mac, iOS, Android and Web and features cross-platform play across all formats and multiple game modes for solo and multiplayer gameplay, allowing a host of options for players to choose a race, explore the galaxy and gather resources.

Sonic: Lost World Coming to PC

sonic-lost-world-gameplay-02

Sonic Lost World was originally the first part of a 3 game Sonic exclusivity deal with Nintendo (the other games being Sonic and Mario at the Sochi 2014 Olympics and Sonic Boom), however it now seems that the deal for Sonic Lost World was only for a timed period, almost exactly 2 years after it’s initial release on the Wii U.

The Steam PC port doesn’t seem to have anything in terms of added content (in fact you would get less content with this release as the Nintendo themed DLC will be absent) but it will have a 60FPS option if your PC can handle it as well as a heap of standard Steam features such as Steam Achievements, Cloud Saves, leader boards and keyboard and control support. To make the deal a little sweet, the game will include the Nightmare DLC and come with a free copy of Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed for those who pre-order the game.

Sonic Lost World is coming to Steam on November 2nd and will be available at a budget price. You can pre-order the game here but we advise you read our full review before you do so.

Far Cry Primal Announced, Taking Series back to the Stone Age

far-cry-primal-screenshot-001

Ubisoft Montreal announced the latest addition to the Far Cry series today. Set in the Stone Age, Far Cry Primal will take players to the dawn of humankind where communities are beginning to do more than just survive. Instead of the guns and explosives of previous Far Cry titles, the developers are focusing on the series’ ever popular bow and arrow.

Takkar is the hero of Far Cry Primal, a seasoned hunter and the last member of his hunting group. Here, players will begin to learn how to survive against the harsh environment in hopes of challenging the dominance of the other tribes in Oros. far-cry-primal-box-art-001

“The Stone Age is the perfect setting for a Far Cry game,” said Jean-Christophe Guyot, Creative Director, Ubisoft. “Far Cry usually puts you at the edge of the known world, in a beautiful, lawless and savage frontier.  The Stone Age is, in a way, the very first frontier for humankind; it’s the time when humans put a stick in the ground and claimed land for their own, the time when we started climbing the food chain.  That came with conflict against other humans, of course, but also against nature itself.”

Far Cry Primal is set to launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 23, 2016. A Windows launch will follow a few weeks later in March 2016.
