Cobalt Now Available for Xbox One and Xbox 360

Mojang is more than just Minecraft. Shocking I know, but their latest game Cobalt is out now for Xbox 360 and Xbox One. A couch based multiplayer developed by Oxeye Game Studio and published by Mojang, the game has a slick time dilation mechanic that will let players dodge gunfire, pull off crazy shots, or destroy incoming projectiles with style. The game is priced at $26.95 AUD.

“I’m super excited. I’m not sure if it’s a spoiler or not, but the ending of the story has potential to put Cobalt into ‘cult classic’ status.” – Jens Bergensten, developer on Cobalt

SUPERHOT is Bringing Strategic Mayhem to Xbox One Soon

Not even released and already well on its way to being a smash hit, SUPERHOT will be launching on PC on February 25 and on Xbox One a few weeks after that. The game was funded on Kickstarter after becoming hugely popular during the 7 Day FPS game jam. SUPERHOT was a finalist at IGF and SXSW.

SUPERHOT spins the traditional FPS shooter on its head by stopping time when you stop moving. This gives players a chance to plan their next move as there’s no ammo pickups and no regenerating health. It’s just you, a hail of bullets, and a ton of unused weapons laying on those enemies you just killed.

NEW GAMEPLAY UPDATES ENHANCE THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: TWILIGHT PRINCESS HD on Wii U

NEW GAMEPLAY UPDATES ENHANCE THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: TWILIGHT PRINCESS HD on Wii U

Additional gameplay updates and new Hero Mode added to the critically-acclaimed adventure game

5th February, 2016 – Zelda fans new and old alike can look forward to several updates and improvements when The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD launches on Wii U on March 5. High definition visuals give classic scenes like Link riding Epona across the Eldin Bridge and Wolf Link howling at the moon a stunning new look, while other additions affect how the game plays, including new gameplay updates and Hero Mode.

By using the Wii U GamePad, players can now easily manage their inventory, access the map and quickly transform into a wolf via the touch screen, all without pausing the game. Players will also be able to use the GamePad to access Miiverse and can even play the game off-TV. Miiverse posts can be decorated with dozens of new Twilight Princess-related Miiverse stamps, hidden away throughout Hyrule.

The addition of a new item, the Ghost Lantern, will aid Link in the Poe Soul retrieving quest. When Link holds the Ghost Lantern it will helpfully glow when it detects a Poe in the area. Similarly, the number of Tears of Light that need to be collected by Link at various points in his adventure has been reduced from 16 to 12, making these collection tasks easier. Furthermore, if Link finds Rupees in a treasure chest while his wallet is already full, Rupees will no longer be returned to that chest. Players are also less likely to reach the limit of their wallets, as these have been modified to hold more Rupees.

Zelda veterans or brave new players who desire an added challenge can opt to play in Hero Mode right from the start. A testing new way to play through the main adventure, in Hero Mode Link will take double the normal damage and there are no health-replenishing hearts to be found. In a final layer of challenge the game world is also mirrored, so dungeon layouts will be reversed. For those in search of the ultimate challenge, tapping the Ganondorf amiibo on the Wii U GamePad when in Hero Mode will cause Link to take a staggering four times the normal damage until the play session ends.

Further tweaks and updates to The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD await discovery by keen-eyed fans as they play through the adventure.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD will be available at launch on March 5 as a Special Edition bundle including the Wolf Link amiibo and an audio CD with a selection of the game’s official soundtrack (SRP AU$99.95).

With a number of gameplay updates, HD visuals and the addition of Hero Mode, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD provides an updated take on the revered adventure that should appeal to fans new and old alike.

Nintendo’s Smart Device Plans and Rewards Program Revealed

miitomo-logo-01

Last year Nintendo announced they will be entering the smart device market and now those statements are coming to fruition after some information was revealed at Nintendo’s latest investor meeting. Nintendo’s first official and exclusive smart device app (I guess all the Pokemon games don’t count) will be Miitomo, which is being described as a “social experience that uses Nintendo’s Mii characters to engage friends in a lighthearted, playful and welcoming social setting.” The game was initially announced back in October last year but details were brief, simply saying it would be free to play with in-app purchases.

Mii Characters will be able to answer questions such as “what song has been stuck in your head lately?” or “do you believe in aliens?”, and by answering those questions users will be able to discover surprising information and secrets about their friends, as well as share their experiences with others easily by taking and sharing photos featuring their Mii using the Miifoto feature.

miitomo-screenshot-01

Why people couldn’t just do that in real life is beyond me but I believe it is a fantastic move on Nintendo’s part to enter the mobile market as the absolutely massive install base is too good to pass up. Nintendo’s profit outcomes have been down 36% year-over-year, with the downfall attributed to poor hardware sales of the 3DS and Wii U.

Luckily for Nintendo, new IP Splatoon and the much hyped Amiibo figures saved the company from a worse outcome, although the Amiibo craze is now definitely at it’s end with stores heavily reducing stock and lowering prices across the country. Stock dipped after the announcement of Miitomo however bounced back strongly after Nintendo stated their 2nd mobile game will be nothing like Miitomo and make us of a very loved first party IP. Including Miitomo, five smart device apps are scheduled to release by the end of March 2017, we can presume Pokemon GO! is one of  them.

nintendo-my-rewards-promo-02

Nintendo’s new rewards program labelled My Nintendo will launch alongside Miitomo in March. My Nintendo will able to connect with Miitomo and presumably other games and is promised to be much more than a traditional rewards program such as what Club Nintendo was, rewarding users for interacting with Nintendo products. The company has said in the future it wants My Nintendo to represent a unified user account, and that the service plans to host cloud saves for all games you play as well. A special Miitomo bonus will be offered to anyone in Australia and New Zealand that creates a Nintendo Account between 17th  February and the launch of Miitomo in March.

The My Nintendo rewards will be based around two point systems, Gold Points, which are received for buying Nintendo games, consoles and digital content and Platinum Points, which will be received by logging into your account, playing games on your phone and basically interacting with Nintendo products and services. It also seems like Platinum Points may be tied to some sort of achievement system, as the presentation detailed you can earn them for “satisfying special conditions”.

nintendo-my-rewards-promo-01

How you can spend the two currencies also differs. Platinum Points can be used for digital content such as wallpapers and cosmetic DLC, while Gold Points will change into discount vouchers which you can use on the eShop to buy more games. For those worried about not having anymore physical items to work towards to, it was also said Platinum Points can be exchanged for ‘original goods’.

What would you like to see Nintendo do with their new push into the smart market? Personally  I think it’s a no-brainer to bring back Nintendogs as that would suit the abilities of tablet or phone perfectly. Let us know your great idea in the comments below.

Squad Alpha V4 Update Adds New Optics, Grenades, and More

squad-screenshot-009

Offworld Industries have been hard at work releasing a steady stream of content for their FPS Squad as of late. Today, the V4 update was released for the game’s public alpha build. Now, players will be able to use the 1P78 Kashtan Rifle Optics on the AK74M and the RPK74M, giving them a better view of the battlefield. The Militia and Russian factions will also be able to start hurling the RGD-5 grenades at their enemies. The map Fools Road has also been updated with an industrial area in the south western portion of the map that will be a great hotspot for close quarters combat. The map Chora has also been updated to increase the playable area size and to add some new visual details.

The team released their January 2016 recap that highlights the behind the scenes work that has been going on with the game. There is plenty to look forward to in the new year. Squad is on Steam Early Access and can be purchased for $39.99.
