Cuphead Officially Delayed to Mid-2017

cuphead-screenshot-005

The developer of Cuphead, Studio MDHR, has announced that they are unfortunately going to be delaying the upcoming 1930s cartoon-inspired game to mid-2017. Previously the developer was aiming to have the game released sometime in 2016 but in an effort to make sure that the game ships with the developer’s “vision intact” the delay was necessary.

Cuphead is still set to be released for the Xbox One and Windows 10 as well as on Steam. For those who haven’t heard of the game, Cuphead is a run and gun action game that is heavily focused on boss battles and thanks to taking inspiration from cartoons in the 1930s, the visuals and audio are created using the same type of techniques from that era such as hand drawn animation, watercolor backgrounds, and original jazz recordings.

Tekken 7 Adds Miguel Caballero Rojo to the Roster

tekken-7-screenshot-086

It looks like those who liked the addition of the new character Miguel Caballero Rojo back in Tekken 6 won’t have to worry about whether the character will have a future with the series as he has been confirmed as part of the Tekken 7 roster. Bandai Namco has released a new trailer showing off his fighting style and a bit of his dialogue (with a couple of rather obvious spelling issues in his subtitles for now) and you can check out the introduction video below.

Currently Tekken 7 is slated to be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC sometime in early 2017.

God Eater 2: Rage Burst Review

God Eater 2: Rage Burst

Developer: Shift
Publisher: Bandai Namco
Platforms: PlayStation 4 (Reviewed), PS Vita
Release Date: Available Now
Price: $59.98 USD – Available Here $99.95 AUD – Available Here

Overview

Western fans of Bandai Namco’s God Eater series have had a bit of a rough time on whether or not they would see the series continue to be released here. After God Eater 2 was released in 2013 for the PSP and then later God Eater 2: Rage Burst was released in 2015 many wondered if the title would arrive in the West at all. Thankfully Bandai Namco brought both the enhanced version of the first title and God Eater 2: Rage Burst to Western fans within a few months of each other. So now that God Eater 2: Rage Burst is available, is it worth picking up?

Story

Players begin the game as a fresh recruit to the Blood Faction of the God Eaters. These people are gifted with the special abilities necessary to wield God Arc weapons, the only weaponry that have are capable of slaying the creatures threatening the human race, the Aragami. With the Blood Faction capable of triggering special Blood Art abilities that allow them to unleash extremely powerful attacks, they are essential fighters on the front lines.

god-eater-2-rage-burst-screenshot-43Utilizing a mission-based format to progress the story players will regularly experience little cut-scenes that help flesh out the various side-characters that they will fight alongside, something that is very well done as the cast is quite likable once they are developed, as well as various developments that move the story along. This doesn’t hold up too well in the long run however as the mission format eventually requires quite a bit of progress to be made before any meaningful developments occur, often leaving players hanging dry for hours at a time before the next major event occurs.

Gameplay

God Eater 2: Rage Burst utilizes a mission based structure that allows players to take advantage of the core hub area where they are able to customize their team, change and upgrade weaponry, manage your abilities, and select item loadouts. When you feel prepared to take on a mission you can select one at the “Operator Desk” and head out into a pre-determined area to complete said mission with more than enough time to spare. Generally players can get along just fine with using the AI companions that are provided to them as the ally AI is quite intelligent and capable in combat even against large scale enemies, though there is an option to fight online alongside other players, though attempting to do this might take some time as there are usually very few people online at any given time.

god-eater-2-rage-burst-screenshot-44In combat players can utilize various standard mecahnics such as attacking, jumping, guarding, and various skills to take down the Aragami they are facing off against, whether this means using your melee weapon to deal quick heavy damage or utilizing your firearm to deal damage at a distance. The issue with using the gun is that ammo can only be obtained from dealing damage or consuming enemies, meaning that you only have so many shots at a time, though the benefit here is that these shots can be charged with different elemental types to best target an enemy’s weaknesses.

Using the special “devour” ability of your weapon will obtain extra materials from your enemies that can be used to craft new gear as well as upgrade items you’ve previously created. By literally taking a bite out of your enemies players will also be able to tap into a special ability that is unique to this entry. This is called “Blood Rage” and allows for various buffs to be applied to the character and even give them some temporary invulnerability at the cost of draining the meter even faster.

god-eater-2-rage-burst-screenshot-45Thanks to the various amount of God Arc type weapons that can be used by the player, the sheer number of missions to tackle, and the amount of customization available players will find that God Eater 2: Rage Burst has a tremendous amount of content to be played through, especially once you begin to tap into character specific missions.  That being said, the game does make it so players will need to learn various aspects themselves rather than frontloading the information, this is good for those who like to test their own playstyles before settling into one but can be quite an obstacle to newcomers who find themselves struggling after glossing over certain mechanics.

Visuals & Audio

It is worth noting that although God Eater 2: Rage Burst has been released for the PlayStation 4 that the original game first arrived as a PSP game that was then given an enhanced version for the Vita and PS4. This means that while plenty of additional content has been added to the game and some graphical improvements have also been made, that the character models are a bit rough around the edges but do have some nice designs and unique enemies to face off against. The real improvement here comes in the form of fluid character animation that allows for some outstanding looking combo attacks against the large foes players will come up against.

god-eater-2-rage-burst-screenshot-46With the release of God Eater 2: Rage Burst Bandai Namco has included only the English dub for the game and while the voice actors do fit their roles nicely, there are a few odd elements here. The game makes smart use of the controller speaker for relaying orders but many times throughout the title, even during important cutscenes, the dialogue comes across as extremely muffled to the point that it almost sounds as if the voice work was recorded off of speakers replaying the dialogue rather than a microphone. Thankfully while the dialogue often falters in this form, the soundtrack accompanying this game is outstanding as there are a large amount of great tracks that perfectly fit the nature of the game and help make large battles feel all the more intense.

Overall

God Eater 2: Rage Burst is a highly polished entry for the series and while the storyline may be one of the weaker elements as it takes too long to progress at times, the extra focus spent on the characters is something of a delight. With fantastic combat mechanics and plenty of content to test your skills against, this monster hunting title is one that players can easily sink hours once they learn the basics and begin to understand the more difficult mechanics that appear in later levels.

NEW POKÉMON AND CHARACTERS ANNOUNCED FOR POKÉMON SUN AND POKÉMON MOON!

NEW POKÉMON AND CHARACTERS ANNOUNCED FOR POKÉMON SUN AND POKÉMON MOON!

Eight new Pokémon and two new characters revealed for upcoming Pokémon games.

London—14 October 2016— The Pokémon Company International and Nintendo showcased new information for the latest games in the Pokémon franchise, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, coming to Europe on 23 November and available exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.

The following new Pokémon have been unveiled:

Silvally
Type: Normal
The Synthetic Pokémon Silvally is the evolution of Type: Null. This Pokémon changes its type when exclusive items are inserted into the drive on its head, and its somatic cells mutate and glow with different colors of light depending on its type. Silvally has the new Ability RKS System, which causes this Pokémon to change type when holding specific type-related items. It also has the exclusive move Multi-Attack, an attack which changes depending on which type-related item it is holding.

Hakamo-o
Type: Dragon-Fighting
Hakamo-o is the Evolution of Jangmo-o. Hakamo-o dance before battle to show their strength, clanging their scales together. A solitary Pokémon that enjoys training alone, its scales are often torn off, but they grow back nearly immediately. Hakamo-o view the number of lost scales as proof of how ferociously they have fought in battle.

Kommo-o
Type: Dragon-Fighting
Kommo-o is the Evolution of Hakamo-o. There is a legend that says Kommo-o are covered in glittering scales in order to drive away a great darkness covering the world. This Pokémon can learn the new move Clanging Scales. When using this attack, Kommo-o scrapes the scales covering its body against one another, attacking with a loud clamor. After using this move, Kommo-o’s Defense is lowered.

Steenee
Type: Grass
The Fruit Pokémon Steenee is the Evolution of Bounsweet. The calyx on this Pokémon’s head is very hard, and Steenee attacks by smacking its opponent with it, combined with kicks from its tough legs. This Pokémon’s fragrance is even more delectable than that of Bounsweet.

Tsareena
Type: Grass
Only the strongest of Steenee are able to evolve into Tsareena. A very noble Pokémon, Tsareena use their strength to protect and rule over Bounsweet as their queen. This Pokémon attacks with very powerful, majestic kicks and uses its powerful fragrance to mesmerize its opponents. Some Tsareena have the exclusive new ability Queenly Majesty, which prevents opponents from using priority moves.

Ribombee
Type: Bug-Fairy
Ribombee is the Evolution of Cutiefly. This Pokémon collects flower nectar and pollen to make into balls, known as Pollen Puffs, which it can then launch at its opponent in battle. Some of the Pollen Puffs that Ribombee make also have relaxing effects or can relieve tiredness. These Pollen Puffs are distributed all over the Alola region.

Alolan Grimer
Type: Poison-Dark
As the population of the Alola region increased, dealing with garbage became a serious problem. As a solution, Grimer were imported from other regions and fed primarily on garbage, so their body composition changed—as did their form. What appear to be teeth in this Pokémon’s mouth are in fact residual toxins from the garbage it eats, which have hardened and crystallized. There are more than a hundred Alolan Grimer in Alola’s garbage-processing plants.

Alolan Muk
Type: Poison-Dark
Alolan Muk evolves from Alolan Grimer. The Muk in the Alola region produce and store their toxins within their bodies so, unlike Muk in other regions, you won’t detect any unpleasant aromas when you draw near one. Alolan Muk has the same poisonous crystals as Alolan Grimer, but they are all over the surface of its body. Alolan Muk uses them to attack, just like other Pokémon use their fangs or claws.

Two new characters who will appear in the Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon games were also announced. Introducing Olivia and Ilima:

Olivia
Olivia is the kahuna of Akala Island, the second island you visit across your island challenge. She is extraordinarily skilled and has served as a kahuna since a young age. Although highly skilled, she insists that she is just a normal girl.

Ilima
A graduate of the Trainers’ school and an expert in Normal-type Pokémon, Captain Ilima is considered a hero by the students of his former school.

A new trailer that showcases the new Pokémon and characters can be found here: https://youtu.be/x6nEp3WoWr0.
