South Park: The Fractured But Whole Delayed Once More

It seems that South Park: The Fractured But Whole is going to be one of the games that fans are going to be chasing for a bit. After previously being delayed from December 2016 to Q1 2017, Ubisoft’s earnings reports have revealed that the game is now set to be released sometime during Ubisoft’s fiscal 2017-2018 year, meaning it can be released anywhere from April 2017 to March 2018.

Ubisoft did not state why South Park: The Fractured But Whole was delayed but this isn’t new for the series, as the previous game, Stick of Truth, also suffered from a number of delays, taking over two years past its initial release date to be released though fans can take some comfort in the fact that when it was eventually released it turned out to be a highly satisfying title.

Street Fighter V Brings Kolin to the Roster on February 28

Some may remember the female character Kolin from Street Fighter III where she debuted as a non-playable character but now it looks like Capcom is giving her a bigger role in some upcoming Street Fighter V DLC. On February 28th Kolin will be available for purchase either using in-game currency or real currency for both he PC and PlayStation 4 versions of the game. When obtained Kolin will come with her own story as well as a “Premium Battle” and “Nostalgia” costume.

To go along with these announcements the company has provided a description of Kolin’s skillset as well as a debut gameplay video:

Kolin

After working in the shadows for Gill and the secret Illuminati organization, Kolin makes her Street Fighter V debut. First appearing in Street Fighter III, Kolin works behind the scenes in order to fulfill the Prophecy of Miraha and stop any who dare stand in Gill’s way. She is typically calm and collected, but can suddenly fly into a rage when anybody threatens Gill and his plans. Spoiler-alert, she resurrects Nash and uses him as a pawn too, showing she will do anything to achieve her goals.

Kolin excels in the Russian martial art of Systema, utilizing the opponent’s momentum against them and executing various slash-like attacks and knife hand strikes. Gill has bestowed upon her the power of ice, allowing her to augment her fight style with frigid blasts and deadly icicles. She is often heard speaking condescendingly towards her opponents, knowing they don’t stand a chance before her, let alone Gill.

Where did her hatred of Shadaloo come from and how did she originally become involved with Gill? Be sure to check out her character story to find out!

V-Skill: Inside Slash

Kolin’s unique counter allows her to deflect and automatically punish incoming moves with ease.

V-Trigger: Diamond Dust

With a full V-meter, Kolin can slam the ground twice with her foot, each time shooting out a path of sharp icicles across the floor. In addition to damage and stun, this move freezes the opponent’s stun gauge. While in this special state, the stun gauge will not deplete and if Kolin is successful in stunning the opponent, they will be frozen in place.

Critical Art: Frost Tower

Kolin dashes forward with a slice of her hand. If the attack connects, she’ll continue summoning large icicles from the ground, throwing the opponent into the air and shattering the ice to drop them to the ground.

Toukiden 2 Story Detailed Alongside New Weapons and Mitama

Today Koei Tecmo released some new information regarding their upcoming Toukiden 2 release by detailing some elements of the game’s storyline, releasing footage of the new weapon types Sword & Shield and Chain Whip, and releasing a slew of screenshots and Mitama artwork. In Toukiden 2 the seemingly peaceful village of Mahoroba is riven by internal conflict. Despite being tasked with the protection of Kagura, the Shrine Maiden, the town’s two rival clans – the Samurai and the Imperial Guard – clash for dominance, jeopardizing the safety and the future of the sanctuary settlement.

In an effort to defuse the tension, the Holy Mount has sent in its own force of Slayers, but their presence feels more like a threat than a path to a peaceful solution. Will the new Slayer who mysteriously appeared on the outskirts of Mahoroba unite the irate guardians, or will the devastating events that tore once-allied factions apart prevail and sound the end of humanity?

Steam Direct Program to Replace Steam Greenlight in Hopes of Reducing Shovelware

Valve announced that they will be replacing Steam Greenlight with the new Steam Direct program. While Steam Greenlight lowered the barrier of entry for getting games on Steam, it came with the unfortunate side effect of introducing a lot of shovelware into the store. Several unsavoury PC developers have turned to so called asset flips to make a quick dollar. This process involves purchasing assets for popular engines like Unity and Unreal Engine and then creating a simple, bare-bone FPS or walking simulator to release on Steam.

Based on the feedback of publishers, developers, and Steam users, Valve created Steam Direct. The program will launch in the next few months and will remove Steam Greenlight’s voting system. Instead, developers will provide paperwork to Valve including personal/company verification and tax documents. Valve has likened this process to opening a bank account. For every title a developer wishes to sell on Steam, the developer will need to pay a recoupable fee. Valve is currently deciding on the final fee, but it could range from $100-$5000.

This move means developers are essentially putting down a deposit for the right to sell their game, thus incentivized to create a quality game that will allow them to recover the application fee through strong sales. Valve is likely searching for a price that will be too high to be profitable for asset flippers but still affordable enough for a single person indie developer’s budget. The company has not clarified exactly how the fee is to be recouped, but it is reasonable to assume that it will be tied to the game’s sale on the Steam storefront. We can expect the new system to be rolled out sometime in Spring 2017.

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr Kicking off Public Alpha

NeocoreGames is running a public Alpha program called The Founding for their upcoming action RPG Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr. The Founding is designed for players who want to play an active role in shaping the development of the game. Packages for start at $39.99 USD and include early access to the Alpha and Beta tests, the full game on release, access to developer run polls, and a name in the credits of the game.

The developers are running The Founding privately through their website, as they are looking to focus on a small group of early adopters who will be interested in providing feedback on the game. They may choose to go to Steam Early Access later if they need a larger pool of testers than The Founding can provide, but it does not appear to be in the books at this time. NeocoreGames is strongly encouraging prospective buyers to read the FAQ carefully before purchasing.

While The Founding is only available on PC, Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
