NINTENDO SWITCH OWNERS GET FREE PREVIEW OF SPLATOON 2 DURING GLOBAL TESTFIRE EVENT

NINTENDO SWITCH OWNERS GET FREE PREVIEW OF SPLATOON 2 DURING GLOBAL TESTFIRE EVENT

Full game introduces Private Battle Spectator View, LAN Play and voice chat via smart device

13th February, 2017 – Anyone looking to pick up the brand new Nintendo Switch console will have a colourful treat to look forward to, thanks to a special Splatoon 2 preview coming up in March. Players will be able to download a demo version of Splatoon 2 ahead of its winter release that will allow them to battle against opponents around the world during six sessions spanning the three days of the Splatoon 2 Global Testfire event*.

At the Tokaigi Game Party Japan 2017 event that took place in Tokyo over the weekend, Splatoon series producer Hisashi Nogami also confirmed new details on this winter’s splat-tastic sequel for Nintendo Switch. Private Battle Spectator View is a new functionality that will allow up to two people to participate in a Private Battle as camera operator to observe the 8-player battle from multiple angles. Players equipped with their own recording tools will be able to broadcast videos online from a commentator’s perspective.

That functionality can also be used in conjunction with the newly announced LAN Play feature. Connecting up to 10 docked consoles** via wired LAN will be well-suited for proper tournaments, while for more casual get-togethers up to 8 players can still enjoy a quick game via the previously revealed local wireless connection.

“Two years have passed since the original Splatoon and since then, the weapons, maps and characters in that world have evolved. Through the Splatoon 2 Global Testfire event this March, players will be able to get a taste of that. There will be more new features to Splatoon 2, so please look forward to more reveals in the future,” noted Nogami.

The Global Testfire event will give Nintendo Switch owners six chances to play with other players worldwide during the three-day event. It will offer content also featured at various Nintendo Switch hands-on events around the world. Players can test four different main weapons, including the new Splat Dualies, as well as remixed versions of the iconic Splat Roller and Splat Charger.

The timings of the event are as follows:

Saturday, March 25th
5:00am – 5:59am AEDT
1:00pm – 1:59pm AEDT
9:00pm – 9:59pm AEDT

Sunday, March 26th
5:00am – 5:59am AEDT
1:00pm – 1:59pm AEDT
9:00pm – 9:59pm AEDT

Splatoon 2 will be compatible with Splatoon series amiibo and – for the first time in the series – with an upcoming Nintendo Switch app for smart devices that enhances online play. This app will connect to the game and allow players to set play appointments with friends who have been added to their Nintendo Switch friend list or via their social media accounts. It also allows players to match up with those friends directly in the game or voice chat with them via their smart device. For example, during a Private Battle, players can voice chat with all of their connected friends when they divide into teams, but once teams are set, voice chat is switched to communication only between teammates on the same team.

Stay tuned to the official Splatoon Facebook page for ongoing updates straight from the Squid Research Lab!

The Splatoon 2 Global Testfire event will allow players to try Splatoon 2 before launch and will run from March 24th – 26th. The full Splatoon 2 game is set to hit Nintendo Switch this winter.

Ubisoft Partners with Don Winslow and Shane Salerno for Ghost Recon Wildlands

Ubisoft revealed today that their upcoming open world shooter Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands was created in partnership with writers Don Winslow and Shane Salerno. Winslow is an expert on the international drug trade and wroteThe CartelThe Power of the Dog, and Savages. Shane Salerno is a veteran screenwriter who worked with Winslow on the film Savages and is currently adapting The Cartel into a film. Both writers are familiar with the international drug trade thanks to their experience writing The Cartel. Winslow and Salerno helped develop the Santa Blanca Cartel, background stories for main characters, and the game’s plot.

“I’ve written about drug cartels for more than twenty years and together with my writing partner Shane Salerno have brought that knowledge to the story, scenes, characters and dialogue found in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands,” Winslow said.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on March 7th, 2017.

ACCLAIMED WRITERS DON WINSLOW (THE CARTEL) AND SHANE SALERNO (THE CARTEL, SAVAGES, AVATAR SEQUELS) PARTNER WITH UBISOFT® TO BUILD NARRATIVE FOR TOM CLANCY’S GHOST RECON® WILDLANDS

Sydney, Australia — February 13, 2017 — Today, Ubisoft announced that the writing duo of New York Times bestselling authors Don Winslow and Shane Salerno have teamed up with Ubisoft to create the cartel-themed narrative for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands. Winslow is the award-winning and #1 internationally bestselling novelist of The Cartel, The Power of the Dog and Savages. Salerno is one of the most sought-after writers in the film industry. He is currently working with Oscar-winning filmmaker James Cameron on four separate sequels to Avatar, the highest grossing film of all time, and writing and producing The Cartel (an adaptation of Don Winslow’s novel) for master filmmaker Ridley Scott. He also co-wrote the film Savages with Don Winslow and three-time Oscar-winner Oliver Stone, and Armageddon for director Michael Bay.

“Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands presents a first for the series with our massive open world that can be explored freely. With this amount of freedom, we wanted to bring in top talent to create a believable cartel organization and story,” said Nouredine Abboud, senior producer, Ubisoft. “As fans of their work, we knew that Don Winslow and Shane Salerno would be the perfect team to help us keep the game rooted in reality while keeping the game’s core entertainment experience.”

Winslow and Salerno offered their knowledge of the international drug trade and their skills in storytelling to create an authentic drug-cartel narrative to unfold for players when Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands launches on March 7, 2017.

“I’ve written about drug cartels for more than twenty years and together with my writing partner Shane Salerno have brought that knowledge to the story, scenes, characters and dialogue found in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands,” Winslow said.

Winslow and Salerno worked closely with the narrative team at Ubisoft Paris to help create the narrative of Ghost Recon Wildlands by expanding on the series’ “what if” scenario that sees a Mexican drug cartel take over near-future in-game Bolivia and turn it into a narco-state. Their previous research and writing experiences across two decades allowed them to help the development team establish a grounded storyline inspired by real life events, a believable criminal organization for the fictional Santa Blanca Cartel, and assist in creating the in-depth backstories for key in-game characters, including the boss, El Sueño, the heads of operation that players will interact with, and core elements of the special forces “ghosts” that will hunt them down.

“I’ve been a Tom Clancy fan ever since I first read The Hunt For Red October,” Salerno said. It was a real thrill to work on this game with the team at Ubisoft, who are incredibly passionate and committed to delivering the best gaming experience possible for fans.”

Set in the largest action-adventure open world ever created by Ubisoft, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands takes place in Bolivia a few years from now, as the country has been turned by the vicious Santa Blanca drug cartel into a narco-state. Players are tasked with eliminating the cartel by any means necessary. The massive and responsive open world encourages a variety of playstyles, allowing players the freedom to choose how they execute any and all missions. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands will be available on consoles and PC on March 7.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole Delayed Once More

It seems that South Park: The Fractured But Whole is going to be one of the games that fans are going to be chasing for a bit. After previously being delayed from December 2016 to Q1 2017, Ubisoft’s earnings reports have revealed that the game is now set to be released sometime during Ubisoft’s fiscal 2017-2018 year, meaning it can be released anywhere from April 2017 to March 2018.

Ubisoft did not state why South Park: The Fractured But Whole was delayed but this isn’t new for the series, as the previous game, Stick of Truth, also suffered from a number of delays, taking over two years past its initial release date to be released though fans can take some comfort in the fact that when it was eventually released it turned out to be a highly satisfying title.

Street Fighter V Brings Kolin to the Roster on February 28

Some may remember the female character Kolin from Street Fighter III where she debuted as a non-playable character but now it looks like Capcom is giving her a bigger role in some upcoming Street Fighter V DLC. On February 28th Kolin will be available for purchase either using in-game currency or real currency for both he PC and PlayStation 4 versions of the game. When obtained Kolin will come with her own story as well as a “Premium Battle” and “Nostalgia” costume.

To go along with these announcements the company has provided a description of Kolin’s skillset as well as a debut gameplay video:

Kolin

After working in the shadows for Gill and the secret Illuminati organization, Kolin makes her Street Fighter V debut. First appearing in Street Fighter III, Kolin works behind the scenes in order to fulfill the Prophecy of Miraha and stop any who dare stand in Gill’s way. She is typically calm and collected, but can suddenly fly into a rage when anybody threatens Gill and his plans. Spoiler-alert, she resurrects Nash and uses him as a pawn too, showing she will do anything to achieve her goals.

Kolin excels in the Russian martial art of Systema, utilizing the opponent’s momentum against them and executing various slash-like attacks and knife hand strikes. Gill has bestowed upon her the power of ice, allowing her to augment her fight style with frigid blasts and deadly icicles. She is often heard speaking condescendingly towards her opponents, knowing they don’t stand a chance before her, let alone Gill.

Where did her hatred of Shadaloo come from and how did she originally become involved with Gill? Be sure to check out her character story to find out!

V-Skill: Inside Slash

Kolin’s unique counter allows her to deflect and automatically punish incoming moves with ease.

V-Trigger: Diamond Dust

With a full V-meter, Kolin can slam the ground twice with her foot, each time shooting out a path of sharp icicles across the floor. In addition to damage and stun, this move freezes the opponent’s stun gauge. While in this special state, the stun gauge will not deplete and if Kolin is successful in stunning the opponent, they will be frozen in place.

Critical Art: Frost Tower

Kolin dashes forward with a slice of her hand. If the attack connects, she’ll continue summoning large icicles from the ground, throwing the opponent into the air and shattering the ice to drop them to the ground.
