Chengdu, China (18th April 2017) – Viking VR is pleased to announce the arrival of the full version of their popular VR FPS Bullet Sorrow VR , after a hugely successful run on Steam Early Access.

Boasting epic “slo-mo” action, slick visuals and fast-paced shooter gameplay, the full version of Bullet Sorrow VR has also added a number of awesome new features. A brand new single-player Infinite Mode will be available, with a new, darker storyline and a variety of fresh enemy types to add new challenge and excitement for players both old and new.

Bullet Sorrow VR’s new PVP mode has also gained the addition of slo-mo, with a unique take on the popular in-game mechanic that will keep the experience of destroying your friends fresh and exciting. Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi Teaser Analysis

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few days, you’re probably fully aware that Disney’s Lucasfilm released a new teaser trailer for the upcoming Star Wars:The Last Jedi film; directed by Rian Johnson and due to be released later this year. Although Abrams may no longer be at the helm directing the newest installment of the Star Wars franchise but you can certainly see his hand in the trailer’s construction. Abrams is well known for his “mystery box” philosophy regarding the deliberate and careful use of mystery to captivate and hold the attention of an audience. A common criticism of this approach to storytelling is that although it is an effective maxim to create an interest in a story, using it to excess essentially leaves the story with little to no substance. It’s essentially what we get with this trailer which is heavy on the hints but light on the substance.

Knowing that, it is probably quite a futile exercise to try to form predictions from what we see in the trailer… BUT woe be to me to tell anyone that they shouldn’t buy themselves a ticket on the hype train so instead I’m going to join the fun and join in analyzing/dissecting the trailer. Below are two of my wildest and unsubstantiated conjectures I have regarding what might unfold in the film later this year:

  • Luke teaches Rey the ways of the force BUT rather than attempting to replicate the teachings of the jedi order which were handed down to him piece meal by Obi Wan and Yoda, he decides to try impart a less restrictive moral code. Effectively this means that the Jedi order as we know it is effectively bunk with Luke (the last jedi) but also means that the mistake of crushing a padawan under the excessive expectations of the code will not happen with Rey… also, she may end up being able to use powers traditionally associated with the dark side of the force (force lighting/choke anyone?).
  • Finn is shown in some sort of stasis capsule. Ostensibly we could assume that this is because he got injured in The Force Awakens as he gets pretty badly burned up by Kylo Rens lightsaber but I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest he may actually end up captured by the First Order to try and motivate Rey to leave her training early. It’ll be a direct homage to what happens in The Empire Strikes Back and continue the pattern of the new films borrowing their story elements quite liberally from the original trilogy.

These are my literal two cent thoughts and I hope you enjoy them alongside a viewing of the new teaser. May the force be with you all, always.

Overview

There is always an argument about older games. If you like a little niche, offbeat title from days of yore and its not some top-ten list dwelling legacy game, you’re actually remembering that said experience blindly as nostalgia is jading your outlook. While I completely disagree with those sentiments, I can say I did find myself lucky enough to experience Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap for the first time ever, with developers of old and new coming together to bring back what is possibly one of the most overlooked titles of the Master System catalog. For those unfamiliar (which I mostly was, going in), this release is a full blown remake of Wonder Boy III: The Dragon’s Trap, a game that launched eighteen years ago to decent critical praise and moderate fanfare. With a hand-drawn art style, new music, and a lot of love, Lizardcube are finally ready to crack this beast out of its shell. Does this remake modernize itself to appeal to all, or is this a game built only for those loyal to their past? Let’s find out.

Story

Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap has a very fairy tale atmosphere, and starts out with the player conquering a mechanical dragon. After doing so as Wonder Boy (or girl, if you so choose), we then are whipped into a sudden adventure as the player is cursed – transforming into Lizard-Man. To break this curse, it is up to you to take your new abilities and body from stage to stage as you hunt down other dragons, transform into new bodies, and eventually remove the disguise once and for all. Yep, it is simple – but is effective for the sake of progression. A lot of NPCs add a great deal of flavor as well, as there are usually locals in many areas to converse with or buy items from – which brings a bit of quirk and character to the game.

Gameplay

The gameplay of The Dragon’s Trap really depends on what transformed state you’re currently in. Lizard-Man is able to throw fireballs at a short range in order to defeat random enemies. Pirahna-Man specializes in swimming, Hawk-Man flies, and Mouse-Man can climb specific platforms in order to progress. There are several of these transformations and each feature their own perks and challenges – based on the level the player is currently on. For instance, Lizard-Man is sort of weak, but his fireball can put a stop to an upcoming enemy quickly. Every character skin has a bit of its own balance, and that is where the charm of the game lies.

After getting out of the first level, the world is literally yours to explore. Every path you take comes off as non-linear, meaning that if you want to go a specific way – there will not be anything to stop you other than the occasional puzzle or locked door. With keys scattered about, the player will have to find gold and keys in order to get through many areas, so they can buy upgrades, weapons, and so on to give them the edge as they work to each themed level’s Dragon. Even though this is a platformer, it is not a game where you just blow through and jump occasionally in order to succeed. No, no. I quickly learned that this hero controls kind of like a lead pipe. Even though he is animated well, the game manages to keep that same feel that I remember so strongly from the first Wonder Boy and Alex Kidd, where jumping is an act of precision and range and hit boxes require more attention than ever before due to the small room for error. I am not saying this is a bad thing by any means, but the weighted platforming and general movement will not be for everyone.

Personally, the gameplay here is why I feel the Master System has such a small following compared to the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo. Platforming is better with speed, and no one wants to bring a sword that feels like a dagger to a fight. I literally had so much trouble with hitboxes as my impatience was on fully display during the opening hour of the game. As I played however, I got over that learning curve and started to appreciate gameplay that was actually far more strategical and layered than I originally perceived it as. There is such an incredible little world here to explore and those who don’t allow themselves to fully indulge due to that rusty feel that the game first exudes will be doing themselves a huge disservice. Now, if you played Alex Kidd and Wonder Boy back in the day on a regular basis – you will be right at home as Lizardcube nailed bring that feel to modern platforms.

Visuals and Audio

Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap has an amazing art style. In fact, that was the first thing I truly fell in love with. The characters are very well animated, with little details bringing this old adventure into newer times. The animations of the world itself are equally impressive as well, as these environments feel very alive with quirk and color. Those who are into nifty features will also be thrilled, as you can throw the game back into 8-bit with the touch of a button, which adds a great amount of replay value even after the adventure comes to a close.

The soundtrack is also pretty awesome. These tunes definitely capture their original platform, but still sound fluid and modern. Michael Geyre does a great job of bringing these old melodies to life, and even though I can say some melodies are not as memorable as others – there is definitely a great deal of charm added for those looking to crunch into a very retro experience. The sound effects are also special in their own right as well – cementing the tribute that our little hero pays to his predecessor with some familiar chimes.

Overall

Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap is a terrific remake, as it has rebuilt one little title into something that looks new, but still keeps its old mechanics close in order to remain true to its origins. Sure, that could be a curse for some titles, but Wonder Boy doesn’t really try to appeal to anyone other than those who want to get a fresh take on a look back in history. With a ton of content, easter eggs, and satisfying – yet not completely accessible to everyone stylings of days past, this little romp is a monster-filled blast from the past that is sure to add a bite of culture to any console it lands on.

Star Wars Battlefront II to Launch on Nov. 7 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One

Just can’t get enough Star Wars after the release of the Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer that sparked more questions than it answered? EA is revealing Star Wars Battlefront II hot on the heels of The Last Jedi trailer. The game is a joint effort between DICE, Motive, and Criterion and will launch on November 7th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

The official reveal trailer has been released with footage rendered entirely with the in-game engine. Viewers get their first look at the main character in the single player campaign, Iden Versio. She is the leader of Inferno Squad, one of the Galactic Empire special forces units that witnessed the destruction of the second Death Star. The campaign is set thirty years after its destruction and follows the rise of the First Order from the ashes of the Empire.

“We wanted to create a campaign that told a story we haven’t seen before in Star Wars”, says Mark Thompson, Game Director at Motive Studios. “It was important for us to tell a new authentic story, one that gives players a brand-new perspective. By putting players in the boots of an elite member of the Imperial forces, we can show them what the battle was like from the other side.”

The game’s multiplayer mode is back with more iconic moments from all three trilogies. It will feature character progression, game modes supporting up to 40 players, and improved vehicle controls by the studio behind the Burnout series, Criterion Games. Based on fan requests, a new large scale space combat mode is being added to Star Wars Battlefront II so players can relive epic dog fights from the films.

EA has announced that those who pre-order the game will be able to get exclusive content inspired by Star Wars: The Last Jedi. On the ground, players will be able to equip cosmetic items and abilities inspired by Kylo Ren and Rey. In space, players will also have access to the Star Wars: The Last Jedi Millennium Falcon and an exclusive First Order ship. A special edition called Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition is also being released. It will contain all the pre-order content, three days early access to the game, and the Elite Trooper upgrade that gives Trooper classes special upgrades right off the bat.

SYDNEY, Australia – April 16, 2017 – Today at Star Wars Celebration, Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA), and Lucasfilm Ltd. announced that Star Wars™ Battlefront II will release on November 17, 2017 worldwide. Building upon the foundation of groundbreaking visuals and authenticity of the original Star Wars Battlefront, DICE, Motive and Criterion are teaming up to deliver the one of the most complete Star Wars games to date. Star Wars Battlefront II will allow players to experience the untold story of an Imperial elite special forces soldier in an all-new single player campaign, pilot a First Order TIE fighter through intense dogfights in space, and play as ground troopers or iconic heroes and villains such as Yoda and Darth Maul in epic multiplayer battles across all three Star Wars eras.

“In Star Wars Battlefront II, we all wanted to really capture the essence of being heroic and how in Star Wars, anyone can become a hero,” says Matt Webster, Executive Producer at Criterion. “Whether that’s playing as an iconic character like Rey or Luke, as a front-line trooper or fighter pilot in epic multiplayer battles, or playing through a new Star Wars story that bridges the gap between Star Wars™: Return of the Jedi™ and Star Wars™: The Force Awakens™, you will become a hero in Star Wars Battlefront II.”

Featuring new characters created by Motive in close partnership with the story group at Lucasfilm, the Star Wars Battlefront II single player campaign will deliver a new exciting story to the Star Wars universe. Taking place in the 30 years between the destruction of Death Star II and through the rise of the First Order, the single player story introduces Iden Versio, the leader of Inferno Squad, an elite special forces unit of the Galactic Empire, who are equally lethal on the ground and in space. In addition to Iden, players will also encounter and play as other iconic Star Wars heroes and villains like Luke Skywalker and Kylo Ren during the campaign.

“EA has assembled an incredible set of developers to create a Star Wars gaming experience unlike anything fans have ever experienced,” said Douglas Reilly, Senior Director, Digital & Franchise Management. “Star Wars Battlefront II will offer everything players loved about the last installment, and adds new modes that we know the fans want, including an entirely new story developed in partnership with Lucasfilm.”

In addition to the all-new single player campaign, the team at DICE is evolving the game’s multiplayer to become the ultimate Star Wars battleground. With modes supporting up to 40 players, Star Wars Battlefront II takes fans through a wide range of iconic locations from all three eras: prequel, classic and new trilogy, including new in-game locations such as Yavin 4’s jungle canopies, the spaceport town of Mos Eisley, and Starkiller Base. Players can choose from an array of land and air vehicles and master their own hero’s journey, with customizable character progression across heroes, villains, troopers and starfighters.

As one of the most requested fan modes, galactic-scale space combat is also brought to life in Star Wars Battlefront II. Criterion, with a deep history of creating some of gaming’s fastest and intuitive vehicles, has built space combat from the ground up with refined handling, weapons, and customization options. Players can drop into the cockpit of the galaxy’s most iconic ships, weave between asteroid fields and fly through imperial dock yards in high stakes dogfights.

Fans who pre-order Star Wars Battlefront II can join the excitement of the theatrical release of Star Wars™: The Last Jedi™, with content inspired by the upcoming film including exclusive* Kylo Ren and Rey themed looks†. New Life is Feudal: MMO Trailer Shows off First 5 Hours of Gameplay

Bitbox released a brand new trailer today showing off gameplay footage for their upcoming game Life is Feudal: MMO. The trailer features gameplay footage that will give viewers a good idea about what to expect during their first five hours of gameplay. All players start out at the bottom as a lonely peasant with nothing to their name. They must forage to get enough food to survive and create basic tools. Once they can group up with other players, responsibilities can be spread around the group. With more hands to put in work, players can turn their desolate settlements into lively villages.

Life is Feudal: MMO builds on the medieval survival game Life is Feudal by strengthening the original game’s social functions and adding giant servers that can host thousands of people in a single world. The game is currently in closed beta.
