Upcoming MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries Releases New Gameplay Footage at Mech_Con 2017, Announces Four Player Co-op & Full Mod Support

The first standalone single-player MechWarrior title in 15 years lands in late 2018

VANCOUVER – Dec. 9, 2017 – Piranha Games announced tonight at Mech_Con that the upcoming and highly anticipated MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will feature four-player co-op and full modding and Steam Workshop support, and during the keynote speech at the event revealed all-new gameplay footage showcasing a variety of ‘Mechs in combat on a selection of biomes to be featured in the final game, set to launch in late 2018 (www.mw5mercs.com).

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries features intense PvE ‘Mech combat in an immersive, career-based Mercenary campaign driven by player choice. Featuring an advancing timeline starting in the year 3015, players will adopt the role of a new MechWarrior mercenary thrust into leadership of a mercenary squad as the Third Succession War continues to fracture the Inner Sphere; the vast region of colonized space surrounding Earth. Victory, prestige, and profit will not only require skill on the battlefield, but in the maintenance and enhancement of your BattleMechs.

The game’s newly-announced co-op functionality will enable players to host up to three friends inside their campaign universe, running missions together as a coordinated lance under the banner of the host’s mercenary unit.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will also receive full mod support, empowering fans to customize their own missions, contracts, planetary systems, biomes, and much more, via powerful toolsets and Steam Workshop integration.

The feature announcements and new gameplay footage were unveiled at Mech_Con 2017, an annual celebration of all things MechWarrior and BattleTech. Hosted by Piranha Games and featuring a variety of partners – each with a deep history of involvement in the beloved franchise – and attended by fans from around the world, the evening was capped off by an exciting conclusion to the first-ever MechWarrior Online World Championship Finals, where two teams of eight duked it out on the battlefield for their shot at the World Championship title and a share of the prize pool.

Asmodee Digital, Fantasy Flight Interactive to Adapt The Lord of the RingsTM: The Card Game for PC

Asmodee Digital, Fantasy Flight Interactive to Adapt The Lord of the RingsTM: The Card Game for PC

Best-selling cooperative card game heads to PC for an immersive digital experience

ROSEVILLE, Minnesota – Dec. 9, 2017 – Asmodee Digital and Fantasy Flight Interactive today announced they are partnering to bring The Lord of the Rings™: The Card Game to PC, as a digitally optimized adaption of the best-selling Living Card Game® from Fantasy Flight Games.

Fantasy Flight Games revolutionized tabletop card games with the highly successful The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game. As a Living Card Game, The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game relied on a fixed distribution of cards to remove randomness from the purchase model and brought players deeper into The Lord of the Rings universe with a focus on immersive, narrative-driven experiences. Now, Fantasy Flight Interactive brings that same philosophy to the digital card game market with The Lord of the Rings Living Card Game—a completely unique digital card game with a non-randomized approach to card purchasing and a focus on cooperative, story-based gameplay.

The Lord of the Rings Living Card Game takes what fans love about the physical card game—adventure, lore, and a chance to play using powerful characters and artifacts—and adapts it for an entirely unique interactive experience on the PC,” said Tim Gerritsen, Head of Fantasy Flight Interactive. “For those unfamiliar with the card game, the digital adaptation invites players to become a part of the fantastical world J.R.R. Tolkien created and embark on new adventures.”

As a single-player experience, The Lord of the Rings Living Card Game tasks players with leading a team of three heroes through a series of narrative campaigns across Middle-earth as they face off against the dark forces of Sauron, controlled by the computer. Players will forge their own fellowships and build decks comprised of ally, event, and equipment cards to face challenges that test their willpower, knowledge, tactics and leadership. In the future, The Lord of the Rings Living Card Game will be expanded to support co-op play, allowing two players to bring their fellowships together and fight through quests side-by-side!

The Lord of the Rings Living Card Game will launch first into Early Access via Steam, as a single-player-only game in the coming months. The game will be launched as a full free-to-play release in 2018.

Valve Launches Curator Connect Tool for Steamworks Devs

0

Earlier this year, Valve announced some adjustments to their Curator system and hinted at a better way to deal with (sometimes fraudulent) key requests and review copies. Today the Curator Connect feature is live and in open beta available to Steamworks developers.

Here are the most interesting bits from Curator Connect FAQ:

Q. How many copies can I send?
A. You can send up to 5 copies of your game to a particular Steam Curator. Primarily this is for the cases where you have a multiplayer game that individual reviewers within a Curator need to be able to play together. You can send up to 100 copies of your game total via Curator Connect.
Q. What happens when I send a copy of my game?
A. When you send a copy of your game to a specific Curator, the game will appear in a dashboard to members of that Curator with permission to accept games via Curator Connect. Each member with the necessary permission will also receive an e-mail notification alerting them to new games pending via Curator Connect. Each member can then select to accept the game on their account or to ignore the game. You as the developer have a dashboard to see the copies you’ve sent to each Curator and how many have been accepted.
Q. Can I send a pre-release copy of my game?
A. Yes. The game you send to a curator will be immediately playable, regardless of whether it is available for sale yet. You can use this to send preview copies to Steam Curators to get word out about your game prior to your launch. Of course, you’ll want to make sure your game is in an enjoyable state before sending it out.

Apart from making it easier for Steamworks devs to distribute PC copies of their games for review and promotion, this system might significantly cut down on fake review requests and Steam keys reselling on gray market.
