Introducing Cherry Hunter, a fast and deadly guitar wielder

PARIS – August 19, 2019 – Fans looking forward to playing Streets of Rage 4 next year will be able to do so on their platform of choice as publisher and co-developer Dotemu (Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, Windjammers 1 and 2) with co-developers Lizardcube (Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap) and Guard Crush Games (Streets of Fury) today announced that the title will make its way on to PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. A brand new gameplay trailer released today also introduced the latest character to join Blaze Fielding and Axel Stone: a badass guitar-playing warrior named Cherry Hunter.

Cherry Hunter is the daughter of Adam Hunter from the original Streets of Rage.

Trained by her father and Axel, Cherry learned self-defense from a young age. Her interest in following in her father’s footsteps and becoming a cop soon faded out, replaced by her love of music. Nowadays, she plays with her electro progressive rock band in some of the most dangerous places in Wood Oak City. She may look young but make no mistake – she is a seasoned veteran of kicking ass and taking names.

The new trailer also reveals several more levels in the upcoming game at different times of day:  neon lighted urban rooftops, elevator, seedy airport hangars, dirty sewers, thumping music stage and many more are all yours for the taking – lay the smackdown and don’t look back.

Streets of Rage 4 will be the first entry to the core series in 25 years, standing as Axel and Blaze’s glorious return to serving up side-scrolling beatdowns. With lush hand-drawn animations, new combat abilities, and fresh tracks from an amazing team of composers, Streets of Rage 4 will be a masterful tribute to and revitalization of the classic action fans adore.

Rediscover Kanal in a major map rework and two new Operators, alongside with the Mini Battle Pass “Call Me Harry”, Phase 1 of the Rainbow Six Siege Battle Pass

SYDNEY AUSTRALIA — August 20th, 2019 — Today, at the Six Major Raleigh, Ubisoft announced the full details of the third season of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six® Siege Year 4 content. Operation Ember Rise introduces a new Attacker and a new Defender, Amaru and Goyo from Peru and Mexico. The map Kanal has been entirely reworked with an improved navigation between all parts. Finally, Ubisoft announced that Battle Passes are coming into the game, with a free Phase 1 named “Call Me Harry” released later in the season. 

Peruvian Attacker Amaru and Mexican Defender Goyo will bring verticality and fire in-game. Amaru, a former archaeologist, is equipped with a G8A1 automatic rifle and a Supernova shotgun. Amaru will also possess the ability to access any high position in record time with her Garra hook and finish with a Garra kick which instantly takes out an opponent standing behind the window, making her a perfect flanker. Amaru helped to train Goyo, a former member of the Mexican Fuerzas Especiales who uses the dangerous Volcán Shield. Like the ordinary Deployable Shield, the Volcán Shield provides cover and allows Defenders to block pathways, but Goyo can turn up the heat with an attached incendiary bomb that can deny access to key areas by Attackers.

In addition to these two new Rainbow recruits, players will be able to explore a reimagined Kanal map, newly reworked to make it easier to rotate and navigate with a new path linking the eastern and western buildings. Two staircases have been added to make the entire map more vertical and the number of indoor playable areas has been increased, with some rooms also seeing an expansion. Last but not least, all bomb sites have been changed, from the Kitchen to the Security Room, and the site in the Radio Room is now found in the expanded Lounge Room.

Rainbow Six Siege will also introduce a Battle Pass, starting with the Mini Battle Pass “Call Me Harry”. The Mini Battle Pass is Phase 1 of Rainbow Six Siege’s Battle Pass deployment in Year 4, and will launch during Operation Ember Rise for free. “Call me Harry” will set its focus on Dr. Harishva “Harry” Pandey, Director of Rainbow. By earning Battle Points, players will unlock tiers and unique rewards, and will get an exclusive Harry Chibi charm upon completion.

Additional updates include the following:

  • An all new unranked playlist containing the same rules as Ranked without affecting players’ rank or MMR
  • Fortress, Hereford Base and Theme Park have all been removed from the Ranked and Unranked playlists
  • An all new Champions rank
  • Map rotations have been reworked in Ranked, Casual and Unranked
  • Player Behavior updates to combat in-game toxicity
  • The Operators menu has been reworked
  • The shop interface has been improved

The Test Server for Operation Phantom Sight will go live on August 20th. The Test Server is an alternative version of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, allowing players to test upcoming gameplay features that will make their way into the main game itself. Since this is a testing environment, a consistent gameplay experience is not guaranteed on the Test Server. Players are invited to submit the issues they encounter on the Test Server on the R6 Fix platform. The Test Server is exclusive to Windows PC.

Persona 5 Royal Launching in the West in Spring 2020

While we have been seeing quite a lot about the Japanese version of Persona 5 Royal, which is being released on October 31st, Atlus USA has been fairly quiet outside of announcing the game for Western release sometime in 2020.

Well over the weekend the company finally narrowed down the release window a bit more by not only giving us a new subtitled trailer showcasing some new events and the new characters but also announcing that the game is now set to be released in the West sometime in spring 2020 for the PlayStation 4. You can check out the video below and keep an eye out for Persona 5 Royal in the first half of next year.

Raging Loop Releases in the West in Mid-October

PQube has announced that they will be releasing the psychological horror visual novel, Raging Loop, just in time for people to play it for Halloween. The company will be releasing the game on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in Europe on October 18th and on October 22nd in North America. Those who pick up a retail version of the game will net themselves a “Day One Edition” that will include a hundred page art book.

Haruaki Fusaishi is a young man freshly arrived to Yasumizu, a remote settlement in a mountainous region of Japan. He will become involved in an ominous local tradition known as the feast. Among the villagers lurks the werewolf, an entity who has sworn to take revenge on everyone. Once the game is cleared once players will unlock the Revelation Mode and discover the story in a new light. You will see the inner thoughts of the characters and unlock new scenes that will give you more insight about their motivation.

Players can keep track of all of their choices thanks to a comprehensible flowchart. Rewind the story and select other actions to see different outcomes and learn about the characters’ motivation. A death may be rewarded with a new piece of information, a Key that will give you access to new paths and bring you closer to the identity of the killer.

Haruaki Fusaishi will find himself stuck in an inextricable loop from which he cannot escape. Conscious of his own fate, he will take advantage of all the knowledge acquired before his tragic deaths.

Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts to Release on November 22

CI Games has set a release date for their upcoming FPS Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts. The game will launch worldwide on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows on November 22nd. The announcement was accompanied by a gameplay trailer that offers the first look at the Black Gold zone.

Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts is set in Siberia. Players will plunge into wilderness as part of a single player campaign with 25 contracts and plenty of side quests. The game is still sticking to its three pronged focus on sniping, stealth, and tactical combat. CI Games is looking to create a more realistic sniping experience with the Dynamic Reticle System that will put more emphasis on ballistic and atmospheric conditions.

Overview

After waking up from hibernation for years, a cosmonaut returns to Earth to find it devastated by an apocalyptic event. He sets off with the space station’s AI named L9 to discover what caused the Earth’s destruction. With the help of an old lantern that allows him to travel into the past, the cosmonaut embarks on an adventure to prevent the apocalypse.

Story

The Great Perhaps struggles with the plot. While the overall idea has some potential, it is never explored with any depth. There is no serious character development to speak of as most NPCs have only a few lines each. Things aren’t much better with the cosmonaut. We only learn the basics about him, such as his family and his childhood desire to be a cosmonaut. The ending feels like it comes out of nowhere, giving the game an abrupt conclusion without any satisfaction. In the end, the whole story feels like several ideas were thrown in a hat and then the plot was composed by using whatever was pulled out. The story feels more like an excuse to string along a bunch of puzzles than an actual compelling plot.

Gameplay

The Great Perhaps is an adventure puzzle game. The game’s levels are linear in nature with two versions of the level representing the past and the present. The main mechanic is the cosmonaut’s lantern. Tapping the lantern button turns the beam on to show the other time period. Holding down the lantern button will transport the cosmonaut into the other time period. The cosmonaut can stay only stay in the past for a short period before he is sent back into the present.

The puzzles in The Great Perhaps are pipe puzzles, collection tasks, and timing challenges. The game is very short, so the limited number of puzzle types don’t get too repetitive. Most of the puzzles are simple and can be solved easily, especially the collection tasks. There are a few puzzles that are harder to figure out as the logic is a little less obvious than the remaining puzzles. The plant watering and bear puzzles stick out as the two worst culprits.

While time is the is The Great Perhaps’ major theme, it is also the game’s greatest weakness. The timing challenges are the most frustrating part of The Great Perhaps. The challenges almost exclusively involve the lantern. Swapping between time periods takes a few seconds, so players are forced to be overly conservative. This would have been a great opportunity for the developers to reward skillful time jumps with smooth forward movement, but instead the game feels bogged down as players must to stop repeatedly. The time limit for staying in the past is another unnecessary function that slows the pace of the game. While the time limit may make sense lore wise, it’s mechanically pointless and is just a nuisance when figuring out puzzles.

Moving around in The Great Perhaps is smooth sailing for the most part. The controls work well with a mouse and keyboard or a controller. The UI is minimal and easy to understand. The only issues involve navigating with the lamp. The game will block players from switching time periods if an object blocks their path. If there is a fatal danger like a hole, the game will swap times and let the player fall to their death. When the lamp light is on, it blocks the view of the present, so players need to also keep track of potential dangers from the edges of the screen. It’s a minor headache compared to accidentally dropping to your death, but it does take a while to wrap your brain around the concept that the environment in the beam doesn’t actually exist.

Visuals

Caligari Games cites murals from the Soviet Union as the inspiration for The Great Perhaps’ visual style. While I don’t see the influence on the overall art style, the murals can be scattered throughout the levels. The murals and the street art are easily the best part of the game. The character design is a little simpler, feeling more cartoon-like than the environments. The environment is dark and gloomy, which matches the story’s tone well.

Audio

The audio experience in The Great Perhaps is not great. The music and sound effects are acceptable. The voice acting on the other hand is really rough. The acting quality is bad. There are a wide variety of accents with little rhyme or reason to them and many are poorly done. The overall quality is low enough that I think skipping the voice acting completely and going with text would have been a better investment of resources.

Overall

At its full launch price, The Great Perhaps is hard to recommend. The story feels jumbled, even for such a short game. The puzzles are bland, and the game has some frustrating mechanics. The Great Perhaps is best left to hardcore fans of adventure puzzle titles looking to pick something up at a steep discount during a sale.

Doom Eternal “Battlemode” Multiplayer Trailer

Bethesda and id Software have chosen to give fans a closer look at how Doom Eternal‘s multiplayer mode, simply called Battlemode, will work in action after being revealed back at E3. This video, which features six minutes of footage featuring the two-on-one mode, highlights a number of the unique arenas and the five playable demons that players will be able to choose from while trying to take down the single player controlling the fully loaded Doom Slayer.

The company also has announced that all future maps and demons will be released for free for all players. You can check out the video below and keep an eye out for the full game when it is released on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on November 22nd.

Gun Gun Pixies Launches Worldwide on September 6

PQube has now officially announced that they are planning on having Gun Gun Pixies released on both PC and Nintendo Switch on September 6th and those who choose to purchase the Switch version of the game at launch will find that they will be given some special launch bonuses in the form of a high quality artbook and a collector’s box shown below.

Gun Gun Pixies follows the story of two girls from outerspace who have been sent to earth in order to infiltrate a women’s college dormitory in order to fulfill their mission which is to study human behaviour in order to help overcome the social issues of their beloved home planet. Players can sneak around around the dorm and climb furniture to search for non-combat story scenarios or get good vantage points for sniper shots to pacify the girls. Collecting large coins hidden around the levels and completing objectives lets you unlock new weapons, lingerie, gadgets and costumes.

Coffee Talk Releasing in January 2020

Earlier this year it was revealed that Coffee Talk would be heading to consoles as well as PC and now Toge Productions has narrowed down that release window. The company is now planning on having the game released on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC sometime in January 2020. Developed by Indonesian based indie developer and publisher, Toge Productions, Coffee Talk features 90s anime-inspired pixel art with colorful casts.

The game also comes with over twenty tracks of jazzy and lo-fi music to accompany the late night warm drinks and conversations.Coffee Talk is a game about listening to people’s problems and helping them by serving up a warm drink out of the ingredients you have in stock.
