MLB and Sony Announce Multiplatform Multi-Year Extension for MLB The Show

For many years now Sony has had a tight grip on the MLB license, making it so only smaller baseball games could be released on other platforms but that appears to be changing as Major League Baseball, the Major League Baseball Players Association, and Sony have announced a multi-year extension to continue developing MLB The Show and what makes this one interesting is that, perhaps thanks to MLB’s pushing, the game will now also be moving to additional console platforms beyond the PlayStation starting in 2021.

It is worth noting that while no actual platform announcements were made alongside this reveal both Microsoft and Nintendo have already reacted to the news in public. Currently MLB The Show 20 is set to be released on March 17, 2020 for the PlayStation 4 with the (as a Chicagoan) now lowly Chicago Cubs taking the cover position.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Will be Exclusive Until March 2021

The new box art for Final Fantasy VII Remake has been revealed by Square Enix and with it comes a notice that the game will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive until March 3, 2021. It is interesting to note that, outside of a few rumors in the past, that so far the game has only ever been announced for the PlayStation 4.

This does mean that fans with either Xbox One consoles or on PC may have a chance to play the game on their preferred platform once that timed exclusivity runs out but it will likely be some time before the developer announces more regarding their plans outside of the PlayStation 4.

Bayonetta & Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle Officially Revealed

After being leaked last week Sega has now officially announced that they will be releasing Bayonetta & Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with the game being released both physically and digitally for both platforms on February 18, 2020 with the bundle priced at $39.99 or individually for $24.99.

The retail release of the game will include a Steelbook case that shows off brand new cover art for both games and both titles will run at 4K resolution and at 60 frames per second when played on the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X. To go along with this announcement the company has released a trailer and you can check it out below.

Death Come True Announced as Next Game from Danganronpa Creator

Izanagi Games has announced that the next game from Danganronpa series creator Kazutaka Kodaka is a full motion video game called Death Come True. The game will be releasing in Japan sometime in 2020 and while no platforms have been announced it has been revealed that the main character will be named Makoto Karaki and will be played by the same actor that played Makoto Naegi in the Danganronpa stage play.

The description of the game so far has it set inside of a hotel where the protagonist is wanted for a series of murders but also has no memories at all. To make things stranger, he has the ability to “Time Leap” to return to the past whenever he dies. As a criminal on the run he must try to find out who he can trust and find the truth behind his own character through the horror of multiple deaths and repeats.

Granblue Fantasy: Versus Metera and Zeta Trailers

XSEED Games has released another pair of character introduction trailers for Granblue Fantasy: Versus, leaving only one character left to be focused on. This time around the characters are the “Peerless Shot” Metera and “Crimson Spear” Zeta. Metera is a zoning style character that can make use of her infinite arrows to attack enemies at a distance, ride on her bow to shoot from an angle, and use “Aetherial Seals” to keep enemies at a distance.

Zeta, with her obsession with Katalina, is a combo-based fighter that wields her Spear of Arvess and can perform a special type of block named “Rhapsody” that will allow for quicker follow-up attacks. Both trailers can be found below while Granblue Fantasy: Versus itself is set to be released on the PlayStation 4 in Japan on February 6, 2020 and in Q1 2020 in the West.

CryoFall Preview

CryoFall

Developer: AtomicTorch Studio
Publisher: Daedalic Entertainment
Platform: Windows
Release Date: 3 April 2019
Price: $19.99 USD/$29.95 AUD – Available Here

CryoFall is a multiplayer survival game that unleashes players on a hostile alien planet. Players will need to band together to gather resources, create tools, and build bases to survive. The game is currently on Steam Early Access.

CryoFall starts off just like every other survival game. Players are dropped as naked as the day they were born in the middle of nowhere. The next few minutes are dedicated grabbing rocks, sticks, and fibres from the ground to build a basic stone axe and pickaxe. From there, players work through four tiers of the tech tree, starting from basic machines all the way to building hoverboards and battle mechs.

Progression is locked behind learning points. Players can earn points from almost any activity in the game, such as gathering and hunting. Each tier of the tech tree has a number of technology groups that need to be unlocked with learning points. The only exception is the first tier, which unlocks all the technology groups for free. Regardless of tier, each item on the tech tree needs to be purchased separately. The price rises significantly with each tier, but the learning point rate bonus never catches up with the prices. As a result, players need to bring or make a few friends so each member of the group can specialize in one or two technology groups. The rate is so slow that one or two players will have to create their own private server so rates can be significantly increased.

Ignoring the highly time gated content, the learning curve is gentle. CryoFall has a quest line that teaches players all the basic mechanics of the game. The tutorials are extremely thorough, offering step by step instructions. Completing the quests offers a generous bonus reward of learning points. The bonus allows players to blitz through the first tech tree tier but worsens the jump in learning point costs between tier one and two.

The tech tree has an interesting mix of specialities. Since CryoFall is a sci-fi title, players don’t spend long in the stone age. Electricity is introduced quickly, and players can get their hands on basic firearms within the first few hours of play. Homebodies, explorers, and fighters have plenty of specialities that will fit their playstyle, and each playstyle will contribute equally to a group.

The building system is simple but reasonably powerful. As a two-dimensional game, builders only have to worry about walls, floors, and placeable objects. Players only need a small fraction of the final material costs to lay down blueprints that are later filled in to create the object. The system easily lets a single architect lay down the plans and have all party members fill in the base as materials become available. Electricity is simplified, so power is automatically transmitted to all machines within a land claim zone. Considering demolishing objects only refunds a portion of the original cost, it makes bases a lot cleaner and easier to manage.

Combat is a simple affair. CryoFall offers a balanced mix of melee and ranged weaponry. There is a great emphasis on status effects, with each weapon or ammunition type offering its own effect. Combat controls will be familiar to anyone whose played a top down shooter. Movement and positioning are important as ranged weapon users can usually kite enemies as long as they manage their stamina and reloads. Melee users will need to be a little less concerned, as only need to ensure they aren’t taking on more they can handle at once. There is lots of opportunity for combat outside of PVP. Lots of animals are scattered around the world. Well equipped players can also enter contaminated zones, where rare items are up for grabs if players can survive the radiation and the powerful enemies in the area.

CryoFall is a game that demands a commitment. The land claim block is core of the base and will only protect the base for a certain period of time. Players will need to log on at least every few days. Otherwise, the base slowly takes damage until it disappears completely. Crops are also on a timer, withering away after a day and a half. Seeds are a rare enough that losing the crop is annoying, as it may be a while until players find replacements out in the wild.

The audio/visual presentation is decent. The visual style is generic, but the graphics are well done. The sound effects are solid. The music will need a bit of work before launch as the track list is extremely limited right now.

CryoFall is shaping up to be a solid pick for players who are willing to commit to a laid-back multiplayer survival game. The pacing is perfect for playing while watching films or listening to podcasts. For gamers looking to play solo or in small groups, the highly time gated content will require either a dedication to grinding or access to a private server. While CryoFall was designed for larger player groups in mind, AtomicTorch Studio can make the game more accessible to small groups by making a simple, in game method of booting up a customizable private server that can be turned off and on as necessary. Currently, the game has an enjoyable amount of content and could pass for a smaller release. AtomicTorch’s plan is to have CryoFall in early access until April 2020 at the earliest, so there is plenty of time for more content and balancing before the game’s full release.

The Holiday Ops Are Coming to World of Tanks

The Holiday Ops Are Coming to World of Tanks

See in the New Year with a special event that will spread festive cheer

December 10, 2019 — World of Tanks is ready to see in both Christmas and New Year with its biggest in-game event of the year: Holiday Ops 2020. It’s all about baubles and battles. From 13th December to 14th January, players will be able to spruce up a new in-game garage, which is better suited for the upcoming holidays, and earn great rewards.

This new garage features an interactive Christmas tree, a feast, an installation and a yard, all ready to be adorned to your liking. There are more than 300 different decorations to be found and 4 collections to be completed (Christmas, New Year, Magic New Year and Lunar New Year). So, get ready to deck the garage with bundles of decorations, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!

Normally at Christmas, only the best behaved get rewards, but not with Holiday Ops; players will receive decorations for causing destruction, creating their own New Year’s firework display and completing special missions in Random Battles. By putting up these ornaments, tankers will increase their Festive Atmosphere and each new level will bring special rewards!

Once players reach level 5 of Festive Atmosphere, they will be introduced to a brand-new Holiday Ops 2020 mechanic: the ability to create their own dream team of vehicles that will earn additional bonuses in battle. The machines chosen will become Holiday Ops vehicles and depending on their class, they will earn extra Battle XP, Free XP or Crew XP. Tankers will initially start with one Holiday Ops vehicle slot at level 5, but with each level increase, a new slot will be unlocked. The Festive Atmosphere level that unlocks a new slot corresponds to the vehicle tier which can be placed there; level 5 is for Tier V vehicles, level 6 for Tier VI, and so on.

There are a lot of festivities going on, but players won’t be doing this alone: they’ll be guided through Holiday Ops 2020 by the Snow Maidens. Every day they will gift players a present that features one random decoration and personal missions for 5x XP. The Snow Maidens will also be rewards for hitting certain levels of Festive Atmosphere so tankers will be able to keep them as crew members for good!

“2019 has been a great year and Holiday Ops is the perfect way to not only end it, but also to kick off 2020,” states Max Chuvalov, World of Tanks Global Publishing Director. “We hope our players love the festive mood we’ve created and the fairy tale nature of the event as we wanted to give them something they’d never forget!”

And there’s even more! The holidays are a time of giving and Holiday Ops is no different. Whether they’ve been naughty or nice, from 13th December each tanker will get a special present that contains the Tier II French Premium light tank, the F42 AMR, 3 decoration boxes and one Charge (a special item that can be used during Holiday Ops). Thanks, Santa!
