Modern Warfare 2 ‘Stimulus Package’ Map pack review

Modern Warfare 2

Modern Warfare 2 ‘Stimulus Package’ Map Pack
Publisher: Activision
Developer: Infinity Ward
Platforms: Xbox 360 (Reviewed), PlayStation 3, PC
Release Date: March 30th, 2010

Intro
“The best-selling Xbox 360 game of all-time just got bigger, with more epic multiplayer content, first on Xbox LIVE! The Stimulus Package delivers 5 additional action-packed multiplayer maps featuring a variety of locations: “Bailout,” a multi-level apartment complex; “Storm,” an open industrial park littered with heavy machinery; “Salvage,” a snowy junkyard fortified by stacked debris and crushed cars. Two legendary fan-favorites from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare return, including “Crash,” a war-torn urban environment; and “Overgrown,” which features a massive dry creek bed.” [Via Xbox.com]

The Maps
Below is a video of all 5 maps, I am the one playing and I had to fit all 5 into one 10 minute video. Below the video I have mentioned some worthy details about each map.

Bailout:
This level has a long area for snipers to cover, but corridors on the edges for protection. A majority of the games are played out in the large opened area you saw in the video, but for capture the flag and demolition the corridors and buildings make good hiding spots to avoid snipers. A well balanced map for short, medium, and long range weapons as long as you know where to be. Short range should remain in the corridors and only pop out every once in a while (clearly not what I did in the video, but I did plant the bomb).

Salvage:
A map with many alleys between the crushed cars, perfect for close range or medium range combat. There are a few decent sniping locations but not nearly enough to make sniping a number  one choice on this map. Fights are usually clustered and end very quickly, in which case you have to find another location to fight. Completely hectic on objective based game types as everyone knows where the fights are and people will cluster there to kill or die.

Storm:
This map has mostly long corridors with not much cover, good for medium or long range weapons, terrible for short range. (I couldn’t actually record this level because if I tried running around and I would die pretty quickly, so I just made a private match and ran around for a minute.

Crash:
This map is a remake of the one from Call of Duty 4, it is exactly how you remember it but more hectic with all the new kill streaks. This map has good points for both long and medium range and a few buildings to jump between for short range weapons.

Overgrown:
Although this map is a remake from Call of Duty 4, it seems more overgrown with the grass giving a heavier cover. Two sides of a creek lead to good games of team death match. Well balanced for short, medium, and long range weapons. Sneak around in the grass as a sniper, take buildings with shotguns or knives, or take a general area with machine guns.

Overview
The Stimulus Package map pack for Modern Warfare 2 is a very nice edition for any Modern Warfare 2 fan. The price on the other hand is kind of steep for only 5 new maps. So while Capsule Computers gives this map pack 8 capsules out of 10, it isn’t something to buy if you are just a casual player. On the other hand if you have money to spend or you are diehard Modern Warfare 2 fan (Diehard defined as playing on a daily basis), pick it up it as it is well worth it!

8-0-capsules-out-of-10

Pros

  • 5 new maps to play online with in Modern Warfare 2.
  • Replay 2 fan favorite maps from COD4 with Modern Warfare 2 weapons and killstreaks.
  • Spend even more time creating and perfecting new strategies on 5 extra maps.

Cons

  • The price is kind of steep for a map pack.
  • Really only has 3 new maps, with 2 remakes.

Zeno Clash has been Delayed on XBLA

4

If you have been waiting for Zeno Clash: Ultimate Edition to arrive on the XBLA, unfortunately today is not your lucky day.

Developer and Co-Founder Andres Bordeu has stated on the Zeno Clash Forums:

It’s been pushed back a tad. Sorry about that to everyone. It should come out early April. Atlus will be releasing more info through one of the next press releases.

Just a little more patience, it’ll be out really soon. As soon as we have new info we’ll post it somewhere here.

This is unfortunate news as this first person shooter/brawler looks extremely strange, and fun. The combination of shooter and brawler makes me think of Chronicles of Riddick and I greatly enjoyed that game. The game itself has been out on the PC for about a year now, and is available on Steam for $15. There has been no announcement for the price of the game on XBL, though if the price follows the same as that on steam, one can assume that it will cost 1200 MS points.

This new ultimate edition will include a tower defense type game, as well as a medley of new weapons, enemies, attacks and more.

Dana White President of UFC changes mind on banned fighters

UFC President Dana White has previously stated that any MMA fighter who signed up to be included in EA Sports: MMA out later this year, would no longer be welcome in the UFC, both in video game and in real life. Now he has retracted his statement about the fighters and is willing to work with those who have chosen to take part in the EA game.

The bad blood between the two companies started back when Dana White approached EA about developing a UFC video game for him. EA on the other hand stated that UFC and mixed-martial arts was not a real sport and had no following worth the making of a video game. However after the release of UFC Undisupted 2009 EA began to move forward with their own aspect of the game, after seeing the success of the UFC game. Feeling betrayed Dana White truly hates EA and had stated that any fighter seen in the EA version of the game, would not be allowed to return to the UFC.

He has also been quoted saying:

“If there’s anybody out there who is a UFC fan, you’re ******* nuts if you buy the EA game.”

It’s quite curious if this decision comes from Randy Couture’s decision to take part in EA’s game, and if White prefers to have Couture stay with his company in the real sport rather than ban him over joining a different video game.

Honestly I loved UFC Undisupted 2009 and I follow MMA in real life, so I’m glad to hear that Dana White is no longer going to ban fighters simply because of this rivalry. This would cut a wide path between who should fight and who shouldn’t fight and to punish up and coming young fighters who are looking for publicity to help them start their careers would devastate many of the younger fighters in the MMA world.

UFC Undisputed 2010 is going to be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on May 25th in America, and May 27th in Australia. While EA Sports: MMA has a tentative release date later this year, for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 as well.

Batman Arkham Asylum Review By Community Member: Andrenekoi

The Capsule Computers community is growing each and everyday.  More and more members are starting to become more active and contributing to the site in many ways.  To show our appreciation Capsule Computers will start posting reviews that are written by our members in our Forum here on the main page for everyone to see & read.

Today we have our Capsule Computers 8-bit Warrior for the month of March  Andrenekoi who has reviewed EIDOS / ROCKSTEADY’s Blockbuster title : Batman Arkham Asylum.  Check it out and leave a comment below.  Big thanks once again to Andrenekoi keep up the great work mate 🙂

Overview

Batman Arkham Asylum was released last year and came as a big surprise.

While nearly nobody was really waiting or expecting much from the game, when the Arkham Asylum was released it turned into one of the biggest releases of 2009.

batmanarkhamasylum-08

Since then Batman Arkham Asylum has been labeled as one of the greatest games ever made, not because it had on of the best super heroes in the world as the main character,  but because nearly every aspect of the game was so well designed, it was a completly fresh new approach to gaming.

Graphics

Graphically Arkham Asylum takes our super hero games to a new level, darker, mature, using the Unreal Engine 3 the game showed to us what the developers (Rocksteady) were capable of, and how to create an immerse universe while maintaining all the essences from the series. The interface, the lightning, the character models, everything was spot on. The Nvidia physics system on the PC version (Physx) added some immersion too, like destructible environment, smoke, clothes, and other minor details.

Sound

Audio was another point which Arkham Asylum hit just perfectly, the actors did their work really well, and the soundtrack couldn’t have been better.

Gameplay

Ceretainly everyones favorite part of Arkham Asylum was the gameplay. This game is probably one of the best examples on how to create a game, the design of the levels, puzzles, how to integrate them in a way which everything works perfectly, how to create an attractive battle system, they got everything right. Oh, speaking of the battle system, I suggest playing Arkham Asylum on hard, this way the game disables the counter hints and the battle really shows how good it is, making the player work harder and evolving his skills during the game. Stealth and combat worked really well with the game too, never removing the fun.

Cons

If there is a con, I think that would be some of the game’s bosses, in some parts they were just recycled, sometimes adding one or two more to the mix. At the same time, there were some encounters, which I will not spoil for you, that were really immersive, some big and memorable moments.

Conclusion

Batman Arkham Asylum ended up being one of the biggest candidates for the GOTY category on 2009, the game won many awards and really won us as players too. There’s a Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY Edition release coming our way, which will have all the DLCs, new challenges, and the support for 3D glasses.

Rocksteady is right now working on a sequel for the game too, but don’t worry, they already said that this sequel is not just a way to capitalize more, they are really working on creating something memorable as the first Arkham Asylum. We can expect the return of some classic characters in the sequel, there’s some big rumors about classic bosses returning and Robin too, which leave us to some coop rumors… but thats for another time.

Overall score: 9 Community Capsules out of 10
