The MONSTERS have been unleashed upon the world !!
Monster Hunter TRI has made its way to the Nintendo Wii for the first time. Jumping on the back of a giant sea turtle our brave adventurer’s have left their Playstation 2 and PSP’s behind in search of bigger, mightier Monsters and treasure on the Nintendo Wii. Finally the rest of the world can experience the fun of slaying a Monster, harvesting and creating a new weapon from its scales and embarking on great adventures with fellow hunters.
Monster Hunter is not a game to taken lightly. In Japan Monster Hunting is performed on the PSP and enjoyed nearly everywhere, at home, with friends or on the train trip home, nearly everywhere you go you’ll see some sort of Monster Hunter reference. Toys and knick knacks are scattered in nearly every gaming store. Did you know that they even have Monster Hunter toilet paper !! It’s 3ply and super soft and will keep you safe even while you’re playing on the toilet.
Monster Hunter TRI is a deep and enthralling role-playing adventure. It will honestly keep you entertained for days and weeks as once start you won’t want to put it down. As you always do with many other role playing games, you start off as a young monster hunter with not much to your name. Entering the city, not all is peaceful, earthquakes and disaster has plagued the land, the villagers believe that some sort of monster is cause of all of this and you are given the task to find and put an end to it all.
Initially your first few missions have you learning how to play and take down smaller less troublesome monsters. To start with the game menu is full of important information for hunters, and it is recommended that you make sure you know how to use it to get what you need and when you need it. Monster Hunter TRI has a solid customization system, you can select your hunter’s sex, along with what they look like, plus equip them with accessories and most importantly your Monster Hunter weapon of mass destruction.
There are a total of 7 available weapons to choose here they are with a brief description :
Sword & Shield : Continuous attacks and a shield offsets the Sword’s lower attack power (one of the advantages of the sword is flexibility, you can use items while you have it equipped)
Great Sword : This blade, giant in both size and force, waits silently for its opportunity (the charged slash is the trademark of the Great Sword and has different levels of force based on charge time)
Hammer : Abandoning defence, this massive block summons the whirling winds and crumbles mighty stones
Lance : With the advantage of an impenetrable shield, strike your foe down with your long, deadly fang from afar (unlike most other weapons, the Lance isn’t good for speedy evasive moves)
Switch Axe : New technology has brought forth a miraculous new weapon of phantasmagoric might. (This weapons switches between a mighty AXE and a Sword)
Long Sword : With beauty in its strength, the spirited blade slices through steel like paper.
Bowgun : Random fire, sniping, explosions. The design does the talking in this long-ranged gun that knows no bounds.
With weapon in hand you will embark on missions and quests, hunting specific monsters and leveling up and getting paid along the way. Most of the quests players will be given will consist of the following 3 types.
Hunting Quests : These quests allow you to either slay or capture a monster.
Slaying Quests : The purpose of this quest is to injure a monster till it falls.
Capture Quests : These quests the hunters need to capture the monster while its still alive. If you kill it then you fail your mission.
If you do fail a mission, you lose any used items, but get to keep items you’ve collected during the quest. If you fall unconscious three times you also fail a quest.
Hunting alone in the single player campaign is brilliant, the tutorial system guides you through every step of the way and teaches you all you need to know. There is so much fun to be had hunting monsters on land and even underwater. Not all monsters live on land, there will be times where you’ll have to fill up your lungs with air and dive into the depths to find new hunting battlegrounds. Just make sure you check your oxygen gauge and quickly go up for air before it’s too late. One great thing about battling underwater is the control system and movement is exactly the same but you can also move up and down too. Make sure you also check for items underwater as well as you’re bound to meet many kinds of fish while you’re swimming around.
Now playing on your own is ok, but if you have your Wii connected to the internet, then you have to try Monster Hunter online. Up to four players can join a party through the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. This is where the fun really starts, your party of four hunters can hunt monster, tactically work together to take them down and complete side-quests and collect items that you can’t get while playing in single player. Monster Hunter is also compatible with Wii Speak (microphone) so you can organize and strategize your next moves without having to type. Now we’re talking !!
Monster Hunter offers players varied control configurations to suit their style of play. Players can choose between the Classic Controller Pro, Wii Remote and Nunchuk or Classic Controller to take down those pesky monsters. The Classic Controller Pro also comes bundled together with Monster Hunter TRI (shown below in the video), if you want a Classic Controller then this bundle pack is well worth the money and it’s certainly recommended to play Monster Hunter with a controller as it gives gamers the ultimate monster hunting experience. The great thing about the control system is you can try playing with the Wii Remote and then switch to the Classic Controller on the fly as there aren’t any settings you need to change when switching between them.
Monster Hunter TRI has placed a huge emphasis on its living and breathing ecosystem where humans co-exist with majestic monsters that roam both dry land and brand new sub-aqua environments, this is certainly a first for the series and is quite impressive, especially when taking on those underwater monsters.
Visually the game isn’t going to blow you away but it does look good on the Wii and is a big improvement over the Playstation 2 and of course PSP versions. With the hardware limitations on the Wii in terms of graphical power, I think Capcom have tried their best in making it look as good as possible. Also it would have been good to see a few more monsters on the screen to battle at the same time as more monsters = more mayhem and more fun especially with four players online.
The Monster Hunter Tri music was fantastic and possibly one of the best I’ve ever heard in the series.
Monster Hunter Tri is Capcom’s best release thus far in the series. Graphically it’s not the greatest, there are a few little online sync glitches, but everything such as game play, online action with friends and epic monster battles does tip the scales towards making it a must have game on the Nintendo Wii.
The creators of Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and now the Multiplayer for the upcoming Medal of Honor game have announced a special offer amidst the two games.
“We want to award you as a Batlefield player in DICE’s next title!” DICE stated on their blog. “Battlefield: Bad Company™ 2 players who have bought the game new and played online will automatically get early access to the M24 in Medal of Honor.”
If you read the small print, it states that gamers must purchase new copies of each game and have entered the VIP code found in the Bad Company 2 box. This offer only applies to new game purchases and those buying the VIP code through the in-game store do not qualify. It also states that the same EA.com account must be used and the offer ends March 31, 2011.
Seems like a lot of work only for early access to a gun, that must be one pretty awesome gun!
News has been traveling around the web and some not so pleasing information has surfaced surrounding the Halo: Reach Beta. Don’t get too depressed; however, dates and news of free awards are also abundant.
First comes the bad news, the beta starts May 3rd and ends May 19th. So, you have 17 days to get your hands on all the Halo goodness before it is ripped away from you until you are once again reunited in September.
Also, as you know, not all the playlists will be available at all times. Bungie will be turning off certain playlists and turning others on throughout the beta. According to the collection of sites you will start off with the “Arena mode” (4v4 ranked Team Slayer), a Free-For-All playlist and as well as some “Grab Bag” playlists. The more unique game modes will surface later in the beta, “Invasion” is planned around May 7th and “Generator Defense” pops out around May 14th.
Not all is bad news, well some people will enjoy the following bit at least. Anyone who plays at least one full game during the beta will be awarded a Halo: Reach beta avatar hoodie through halo waypoint. There will also be a “Halo Multiplayer Unlock Weekend” making all three Xbox 360 Halo titles (Halo: Wars, Halo: ODST, and Halo 3) free to play online for all Xbox Live members, starting on May 14th at 9am PDT and ending the same time on May 17th.
Finally, if you own the ODST disc, there will be a beta introduction available on the disc tomorrow.
I hope to see you all in the battle field when the beta goes live, and hopefully you will see me before I kill you.

Story:
As long as anyone can remember there has always been two planets, Mejere and Taraak. Taraak is home to only male humans, while Mejere is home to only female. Strange enough, these two are at violent war with one another and consistently attack one another. The men live in fear of the horrors in which women are rumored to do the their prisoners.
A Taraakian battleship full of trained men has just been developed and sent into space to begin a new battle against Mejere. Only there is a small problem, the main character Hibiki, has snuck on-board to steal a Vanguard. Vanguards are the male’s newly developed weaponry against the Mejere. Poor Hibiki however was captured and thrown into the ship’s jail as it took off to battle.
Rather than let the ship fall into the hands of the pirates, the Taraakian commander issues the order to destroy the ship. However a mysterious power within the ship destroys the missiles en route and teleports both the hijacked male ship and the female ship across the galaxy.
Now not only do the women and few men face each other on the ships, they are also brought under attack by a new foe, known only to them as the Harvesters. If only Hibiki could avoid being caught up in the attention he is receiving from a certain female enemy named Dita and master the new weapon at his finger tips.
The storyline of the anime is very unique for the genre in which it chose. The fact that there is such a division between the two sexes leads to an extremely large amount of hilarious scenes and outcomes throughout the series.
The story develops at a nice pace and there are plenty of battle scenes and developments happening both in battle and on the ship outside of battle. There is your standard romantic moments that happen, however they are always coupled with comedy as the two sexes try to come to terms with everything that is so alien to them.
Characters:
First lets go over the men of the story, as they are the fewest of the characters that actually appear within the show. The main character is Hibiki Tokai is a low class level worker in the society of men. Luckily however amongst the women he is seen as a fighter pilot of the Vanguards. He is very bad tempered and direct, though he can be a bit thick at times as well. His mind is usually in his stomach and has issues dealing with the women around him.
The other two men on board are Duelo McFile and Bart Garsus. Duelo is a doctor who finds all the women interesting and volunteered to stay on board and assist a wounded female soldier and thus was stuck on board. While Bart is simply a coward and was found hiding after the battle was over. Little does he know though that he ended up playing one of the largest parts as the ships navigator. Duelo helps balance out the serious feel of the men aboard the ship as he sees it as an adult would. While Bart on the other hand is always fearful and mistrustful no matter what happens.
Now onto the fairer characters of the show, the females. There is a large abundance of characters to choose from, however Dita, Jura, and Meia are the main three chosen by the ship and thus the story to be followed as the main female leads.
Dita is the main female character and is absolutely obsessed with Hibiki, calling him a pet name of “Mr. Alien.” She is the most curious and outgoing of all the women and makes great strides in both torturing Hibiki with the unknown, and showing him they are not enemies. Her airheaded nature makes her always good for a laugh and is definitely one of the best characters in the series.
Jura is the standard flirtatious woman who doesn’t know anything about men, and that is what makes them interesting for her. While Meia is the typical military type; hiding her emotions and commanding the others in battle. Meia had the most development since her past is revealed, but the sequence about her past wasn’t designed very well and had only a slight impact on me.
Overall though there is an extremely large amount of other females in the story, each with varying personalities from completely outrageous to meek and timid around the men. The various flavors that are introduced from the wide ranging cast keep the show fresh and make you wonder who will end up with who.
Art/CG:
The show began airing in 2000 and for a show created roughly around the turn of anime development, Vandread still stands the test of time in art design. There is nothing constantly repeated or scenes re-used that I noticed throughout the entire thirteen episode series. The characters are brightly designed and the entire ship is full of life and activity at all times.
The CG art is used only for the space battles using the Vanguards and the female’s ships the Dreads. Notice where the name comes from with the combination of the two, Vandread? Either way the CG sections are still amazing to this day, though nothing you would expect from a major Hollywood production.
The battles in space and the enemies in which they fight are well designed and easy to follow. Occasionally during a fast paced battle it is easy to lose track of what is happening, but the battles look good while they are happening.
Overall:
If you like action, romance, comedy then you will definitely like this game. The combination of these elements work great in Vandread and also provides a solid storyline that will bring together two enemies to fight against a common enemy to stay alive.
ATLUS have some really cool information on their up upcoming first person brawler Zeno Clash: Ultimate Edition on Xbox Live Arcade. Press release has everything you need to know including a new video.
Check out the video below and the PRESS RELEASE after the break.
What is a Skate game without some good ol’ fashion Co-op? Well, the latest trailers shows off just that! But wait, there’s more! It also shows a theater mode that enables you to record and save footage of your gameplay. Yeah, it only shows it for a few seconds at the end, but those few seconds are just enough to give us all hope.
I have bad news. If you were looking forward to the Bioshock 2 DLC set to release tomorrow your wait will have to be longer. The DLC was to add 6 new multiplayer maps, new masks, 3 new achievements, and a rebirth feature (which enables you to reset your level to 1 after getting level 50 and get a mask in return for losing 95000 some worth of eve experience, but whatever floats your boat). The DLC will now release at a later date, so hold on to those microsoft points and don’t go spending it somewhere else. You will regret it.
By the way, notice that i didn’t use any big words this time. Yeah, I did that just for you. Unless you count “multiplayer” or “somewhere” as a big word, but that’s just sad.
