Half Life 2: Epsiode Three is NOT Valve’s E3 surprise

Last week, none other than Aperture Science themself sent an official email stating that the Portal 2 event scheduled to take place during E3 had been cancelled, and would be replaced by a ‘surprise’. They even went on to clarify that the cancellation of the Portal 2 event was not the surprise (thanks for that).

Of course, speculation immediately began brewing that the surprise would be the long awaited Half Life 2: Episode Three. A suspicious screenshot also emerged from the interwebs.

Sorry to squash those hopes and dreams, because big Valve boss Gabe Newell has stated that the surprise is NOT Episode Three.

Replying to a user from the Halflife2.net fansite, Newell simply stated that the surprise “isn’t Ep 3”. In a later email he stated the aforementioned screenshot was “fake”.

Cue crying, temper tantrums and wailing.

High School of the Dead – Anime Preview

I’m sure nearly every one of us has thought of what would happen in the case of a zombie outbreak. Would you fortify a school? Gather anything you can and hunker down? Or constantly stay on the move?

In Madhouse Studio’s Anime adaption of High school of the Dead there has been a mysterious lethal disease that has spread around the world and has caused billions of people to die simply from the disease. Humanity is still threatened now; not by the disease but by those who have died. These walking dead have begun to attack the living and are slowly decimating the rest of the human survivors.

Now in Japan several high school students and the school nurse have joined together to try and escape their Fujimi High School after it has been attacked by the zombies. As they attempt to stay alive they also are trying to discover what could have caused such a terrible plague and potentially even find a cure.

Now this one is one of the highest on my priorities to watch when it airs July 5th, and I would recommend it highly to anyone who enjoys a good zombie movie or game. It will contain excessive gore though so be warned if excessive gore may upset you

Recommendation: Highly Recommended

iPhone 4 Announced at Apple Worldwide Developers Conference

Today in San Francisco, California Apple held their keynote at their yearly Worldwide Developers Conference.  As always  Steve Jobs took the stage and officially revealed the new iPhone.

The iPhone 4 is built using the A4 processor that’s in the Apple iPad, it’s also got a new gyroscope sensor which i’m very interested in seeing how it works, a screen that is 4x the resolution of the existing iPhone which has been bumped to 326dpi, which is on the threshold of what the human eye can actually detect (this also puts the iPhone on the top of the list with the highest resolution screen of any mobile device). A 5mpixel Camera on the front and back of the iPhone so you can finally do video conferencing, and plenty of other cool features such as recording video in 720p HD video and for $4.99 there will be an iMovie app which will allow you to unprecendented editing power on a mobile device.  Oh you can also multi-task now as well, allowing you to swap between apps and games without having to close them down.

Now lets get down to gaming, with the upgraded firepower of the iPAD  processsor (A4), all games and even apps will load up much faster and the frame rates are going to be higher as well.  Can you imagine what the new iPhone 4 enhanced games will look and even play like !! Oh Happy days are ahead of us thats for sure.  This will give the major developers like EA, CAPCOM, UBISOFT, GAMELOFT more freedom to create even better games on the Phone !!

Let’s talk figures !! The iPhone 4 will priced at $199 for the 16gb and $299 for 32GB models (THESE ARE US PRICES – don’t even get me started on what the prices will be when the phone reaches Australia)  The the iPhone 3GS is still currently priced at $99 US (much more here in Australia). Pre-orders for US customers for the iPhone will start June 15th, and Apple has plans on shipping out the new device on June 24th.

Another thing I’ve been waiting for (and everyone else that has a iPhone) is the new iPhone OS.  Labeled the “iOS 4”the OS upgrade will be available for free to all iPhone users, and even for iPod touch owners for the first time. A word of WARNING !! The 1st gen iPod touch won’t be supported.  This is great as developers will not need to downscale games and apps for them to run on the older devices.

For more information check out the Apple site.

Who’s going to pre-order the new iPhone 4  ?  Or are you still sticking to the Android Phones 😉

Burn a man’s face in Kane and Lynch 2

Square Enix and Eidos are turning up the heat on the new Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days media blitz.  In an early E3 trailer they have shown just how violent and devoted Lynch can be.  Of course there is your standard bit of gunplay but when the player has the ability to grab a man and push his face down onto a burning stove, then that is brutal.

If they incorporate that type of environmental interaction with kills and interrogation then we could be seeing a mix of Condemned: Bloodshot and Splinter Cell: Conviction.  Expect to see Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days this August.

Vanquish; Japan’s GoW?

What if instead of muscle bound soldiers, they wore full suits of armor making them seem robotic?  What if Gears of War was made by a Japanese company?  Well we might be seeing something quite similar to that in this new game called Vanquish which is being produced by Platinum Games. The game is set for release some time in winter of this year.

My biggest notice is that there seems to be a lot more bullets flying around than your standard Gears of War game, as well as the most glaring difference.  Rather than a chainsaw bayonet, it looks as if your hands can be infused with some type of energy and allow you to unleash your fury through your fists on your enemies.  Looks to be quite promising, here is hoping that it will continue to stay as promising.
