2K Play titles for Wii and DS – New Carnival Games and Nickelodeon Fit

2K-Play

Admit it…you played some of the Wii’s kiddie party games and you liked them! I know i did, some of them at least…

Yeah…on topic, 2K Play showed their new titles in development:

  • New Carnival Games – Wii, DS
  • Nickelodeon Fit – Wii

New Carnival Games brings kids over 30 fun carnival games, loads of cool unlockable prizes, 4 player action, and for the Wii version, the Motion Plus is now integrated for increased precision and fun. Set for September 2010. Trailer down.

Nickelodeon Fit is the first fitness game designed especially for kids,  all their favorite Nick Jr. characters making an appearance. Parents will be able to control and monitor their child’s exercise routines so they don’t get too buffed up. 🙂 The game is compatible with the balance board and remote(dugh) and is set to be released in November 2010.

Now, 2K…why’d you have to make an April Fool’s joke with Bioshock Undersea Carnival Games ??? 🙁

XCOM – New E3 alien footage!

xcom-enemy-unknown-review-0012

2K Games, once again, decided to re-imagine a franchise which left a mark on most of the hardcore gamers…and not only. This E3, a new trailer has been released for the upcoming first person shooter, XCOM.

Set in the perfect american 1950s, you take the role of an FBI agent investigating the alien threat…but the threat finds you and that’s where the story picks up.

Being developed by 2K Marin,  the rebirth of the series XCOM promises a strong storyline and fast paced shooting. Let’s not forget that 2K Marin are responsible for Bioshock 2, so in my opinion, it’s in good hands.

A release date has yet to be announced. Now…get ready for some alien abduction action only on Xbox360 and PC!

Spec Ops – The line has been crossed in this E3 trailer!

2K Games and Yager released a new trailer for their upcoming third person tactical shooter Spec Ops: The Line.

The rebirth of the series takes the player to the near future, in Dubai, once the jewel of modern cities, now destroyed by sand storms and war.  The developers promised a dark, but gripping story, putting more emphasis on morality choices, but without leaving aside the “tactical shooter” part of the game.

The trailer’s soundtrack is performed by Alice in Chains with their “Rooster” and the release date is to be announced in 2011.

Rhythm Racer 2 Review

Rhythm Racer 2
Platform: iPhone (Reviewed), iPod Touch, iPad
Developer: Avatar Labs
Genre: Music, Racing
Release Date: June 24th, 2010
Price: FREE– (iPhone/iTouch)(iPad) (Additional songs $0.99)

Overview:
Music games have become quite popular over the last few years since Rock Band and Guitar Hero came out. Now though we have iPhones and iPods out, with full app capability. Rhythm Racer 2 is now taking a stand to establish their motion controlled music game and it turns out to be quite a fun ride.

Graphics:
Each track has a unique path, though the road looks the same regardless of what song is playing. However as you advance difficulty the track grows more lengths to make things more difficult. The graphics stay above par even with the more resource draining courses. Your own vehicle, while there is only one, looks great as it races along the track. One complaint about the vehicle is that there is no customization option, or even the ability to select between another vehicle and the default one.

As you gather different orbs you will see bits of fireworks pop in the sky with the color you gathered, also as you race the track slowly changes colors which is a nice touch to the environment. Couple that with the occasional pyrotechnic during bits of the track and you will see many things happening around you that look spectacular.

Sound:
Of course sound is the key point to rhythm based music games, as well as the part where they must show when you begin to fail. In Rhythm Racer 2, the music plays fluidly as you race along the track no matter how much is currently happening on the screen. On top of that as you hit the certain glowing orbs the music stays at a consistent beat and as the line fills up the sound triggering a higher multiplayer plays.

As you begin to mess up and miss orbs, you will start to hear the music drain away. The life leaves the beat of the music and it begins to fade. Even if you begin to mess up extremely bad the music never entirely fades away, leaving a bit of faint vocals in the background which slowly begins to pick up as you gather the orbs again.

Gameplay:

Flying your craft along the track is very simple but quite fun.  As you race down the track you must steer by tilting the iPhone/iTouch in the direction that you want to go.  The motion controls are very responsive and drifting along the track to pick up harder combination of orbs brings a nice sense of accomplishment when you manage to retrieve every single one.

When you begin to play Rhythm Racer 2, you will notice that you will only have four different songs to choose from initially. However this is not the limitation of the game, as you can purchase more song packs for only $0.99 each. The four initial songs however are very entertaining and cover a couple of the music genres, so even the temporary player will find themselves unable to put the game down as they try to gain a better score.

The whole part of the game is to race down the track and gather as many orbs as possible, and when certain amounts of orbs are obtained your mutliplayer increases thus giving you more points. This is a very simple premise and works exactly as it is meant to, establishing the player and the music in an enjoyable format. Plus when you hit the jump and fly through the rings, you can steer yourself through each ring and earn many points, and catch some serious hang time.

There are three different difficulties; Practice, Pro, and Master. It is impossible to fail during a song so you do not have to worry about becoming overwhelmed with a difficulty increase. Instead Rhythm Racer 2 only gets more enjoyable with the higher difficulty as the orbs are more plentiful and the track is larger.

While the track does grow in size, it does cause the occasional hang up during a run down the track. The screen will occasionally lag momentarily to catch up with itself, causing a jump on the track and a loss of your current pick up streak. I only experienced this during Master mode, while the other modes played fluidly.

Overall:
Despite the occasional graphic hang up and the small amount of starting songs, Rhythm Racer 2 is a fully effective music simulating game. Rhythm Racer 2 is exactly what you would be expecting you download it.  With a sleek appearance, and a simple and fun gaming experience you will have an app that you can pick up at any time and play.  Plus with the addition of more songs to download in the future, you can continuously expand your music gaming library.

I give Rhythm Racer 2

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood will have Mission Replays

It has recently been revealed by Ubisoft that Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood will feature mission replays. Supposedly this is due to the overwhelming request by players, because they couldn’t replay a few key missions. Most notably, would be the Da Vinci glider mission. The reason is most likely because of the achievement located on that mission and if you don’t get it you either have to restart the game or buy the DLC.

Many people are seeing this as a way to hone their assassination skills or enjoy the game without having to continually restart.

I on the other hand see something worse. Depending on how ubisoft handles it, you could be having fun replaying missions with all your equipment. However, they could possibly take away equipment based on how early the mission is. The worse theory would be that you have all your equipment from the start and never unlock anymore, but I highly doubt this would happen.

The next bad part is that Ubisoft could have some pretty difficult mission based achievements. Imagine having to beat a mission without being spotted, or a mission where you have to do it under a certain amount of time. Some people might enjoy that, others won’t.
