Pro Zombie Soccer Review

Pro Zombie Soccer
Company: Chillingo
Platform: iPhone (Reviewed)
Release Date: Jun 15, 2010
Price: $0.99 – Buy Now!
Story:
Poor Jax, he is an average soccer playing but unfortunately he never did become recognized professionally. However now that the world is about to come under quite an interesting zombie apocalypse, the only ones around will be the zombies to see what he can do with that ball of his.

Though through some unfortunate circumstances he will no longer be able to stay on the opposition very long as he was bitten by a zombie soccer player when the apocalypse began. And because of this he now has amazing soccer prowess and will use this new ability of his to survive as long as he can before he to turns into one of the undead.

The story itself is told through a number of comic book styled cut scenes that are very incredible looking. These cutscenes are very comedic which helps to keep the game fresh as everytime you finish a level you will be treated to a sometimes funny bit of story here and a plot twist there.

Graphics:
As you begin Pro Zombie Soccer you will be introduced to the first cut scene and right there you will see what looks like it is straight from a comic book. The artwork is excellently drawn and colored. Everything you are seeing in this comic style art is superb and over the twenty levels you will be experiencing are a major highlight for finishing a level and advancing to the next.

The actual game play itself is just as detailed as the comic book cutscenes. There are a large amount of zombies to deal with, from schoolgirls and football players to zombie swat teams. You will be seeing a large variety in the enemies you will be facing and each one is very unique in both appearance and the way they act. Of course as this is a zombie game you will also be introduced to quite a large bit of blood and gore so if you do not appreciate a nice decapitation or some guts flying around then this may not be a title for you. But c’mon…. they are zombies being destroyed by a kid with a soccer ball!

Gameplay:
When you choose to begin the game you can select either Normal or Hardcore difficulty. As you play through the game you control Jax on the left side of the screen and then aim his shots using a slider on the left side of the screen, this will determine where your attacks will land and destroy any kind of zombie. There are a few different zombies that will require specific actions such as bouncing off the wall or hitting them right between their undead legs.

There is of course your own special attacks to go along with the amount of damage you can do to the zombies. The first of these special balls is called the Lightning Ball, which makes the ball travel faster and return to Jax quicker. The second special ball is the Piercing Ball that will plow through multiple zombies at one time and can turn the tide of the zombie waves. Third and definitely not least is the Angry Military Satellite which can unleash hell upon the zombies through laser attacks from space.

There are two different types of mode that will be unlocked outside of story mode once you have finished the given levels. These two modes are the hardcore mode that will unleash a heavy onslaught of zombies upon Jax. And then the Zombie Odyssey which is more or less a survival mode.

Overall:
There are plenty of different Zombie apps on the marketplace but you will be hard pressed to find any game with a set up like this one. Killing zombies with a soccer ball, and the storyline to go with it will put this game at the top of your list of apps. There may be a bit of an issue with repetitiveness but this is broken up due to the amount of comedy you see.

I give Pro Zombie Soccer:

Destination Arcade Pushed back to July 21st

Unfortunately if you were anticipating the release of Destination Arcade you will be forced to wait just a little longer. What should have been arriving this week on the 14th is now on July 21st. So it has just become next Wednesday instead of this one. It is only a week back but it so happens to coincide with the release of the Summer Arcade Promotion. Ironic eh?

The Icarus Effect: A Novel Based on the Deus EX Series

The Deus EX series was always respected for their interesting cyberpunk universe, which was merged really well with the fps and rpg formula.

Coming close to the next game, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Del Rey Books will be publishing a novel based on the Deus Ex series in 2011.

Written by James Swallow, Deus Ex: The Icarus Effect is set in the complex and enthralling world of Deus Ex, a cyberpunk-style technological dystopia where all is not what it seems. In the not-so-distant future, the world is a place of great innovation and technological advancement… but also a place of chaos and conspiracy. New technologies push the limits of human potential, even while they threaten the very future of the world. And from the shadows, dark and secret powers are coming together to take control, intent on designs so large, so intricate, they will take decades to come to fruition. But when two unlikely heroes—Anna Kelso, a Secret Service agent, and Ben Saxon, a special-ops soldier—draw uncomfortably close to the truth, the choices they make here and now will alter the course of history… or usher in an age of darkness.

“We’re really pleased to be able to announce this new DEUS EX novel with Del Rey books. The novel is set in the DEUS EX universe and there will be characters and story elements in it, that will overlap with our next videogame DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION, which we hope fans will be very excited about.” – said Andre Vu, Marketing Game Manager, Deus Ex.

Deus Ex: The Icarus Effect will be released in North America and Europe in 2011, and in other places at a later time. The game is expected for a 2011 release too.

“Ivy the Kiwi?” XSEED Game’s Newest Title Set For Release on the Nintendo DS and Wii…

There is a good chance you may have heard nothing about this new title “Ivy he Kiwi?” slated to hit shelves later this summer. I personally love unique quirky title’s that seem to create the whole “video games/art” debates in discussions due to the charm and quality put into to music and artwork. This title would be one of those without a doubt.

Yuki Naka, the co-creator of Sonic the Hedgehog originally developed this game for Windows Mobile in Japan. If you don’t live in Japan or have Windows Mobile, you are now in luck as this brave little Kiwi is making it’s way to the Nintendo DS and the Wii. From first looks at the screens released, you might think this is a casual platform title. What lies underneath though seems to be a mix of platforming and puzzles that should please any fans of either genre.

The story begins in Ivy the Kiwi? with a egg hatching, and the newborn Kiwi, Ivy popping out and looking for her mother. With Ivy’s mother nowhere in sight, and just her head and legs out of the egg, she sets out on a journey to find her in the dark forest. In this title, you do not control Ivy at all, you actually take control of the forest’s vines, protecting Ivy from any danger and obstacles guiding her on the trail of her mother’s feathers to find her mother. If you have ever played “Kirby’s Canvas Curse” or “Yoshi’s Touch & Go” this will make you feel right at home as it seems to play quite similar. The game is made like a hand drawn storybook. As you move through pages turn unveiling more areas you must guide the young Kiwi through. With over 100+ levels and up to four player multi-player, this leads to a jam-packed game full of beautiful artwork and unique gameplay.

Of course this title is coming out with the big guy’s like Halo: Reach, Fallout: New Vegas and many more of the packed line-ups this year, but nothing is better than taking a break from all of that and checking out a small release with a lot of charm and heart to it. Ivy the Kiwi? is dated for release on August 24th for the Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, and with a mini-compilation on the DSiware and WiiWare. Check out the trailer and screens below.

New Wii Firmware 4.3 – No Piracy Allowed!

A new firmware update has just become available for the Wii users. No extended details have been revealed as to what it actually does except that it will block you Homebrew Channel.

Because unauthorized channels or firmware may impair game play or the Wii console, updating to Wii Menu version 4.3 will check for and automatically remove such unauthorized files. In addition, there are some behind the scenes enhancements that do not affect any prominently-used features or menus but will improve system performance.

I don’t know about you but I don’t like this at all. For some reason I feel Nintendo is taking something I have paid for, in a way, and denies my access just because they can’t secure their console well enough? In other words it looks like piracy backfires on us, the common user, and that just isn’t fair!

Halo: Reach achievements leaked by BUNGIE

Well, they were kind of leaked… Bungie has revealed 6 of the achievements and supplied a picture of all the achievement Icons in a recent post on their site.

Above is the picture they supplied, and below is the achievements they have confirmed.

  • A Monument to All Your Sins – Complete each Campaign Mission on Legendary – alone.
  • Banshees, Fast and Low – Hijack a Banshee during the Reach Campaign.
  • Yes, Sensei – Earn a First Strike Medal in a Matchmaking game.
  • A New Challenger – Complete all of the Daily Challenges in a given day.
  • Make It Rain – Purchase an item from the Armory that requires the rank of Lt. Colonel.
  • If They Came to Hear Me Beg – Perform an Assassination against an Elite to survive a fall that would’ve been fatal.

Beating every level on legendary alone is going to be a lot of fun. The firefight achievements are clearly the ones with the green background, and there are also the regular achievements for beating every level.

Any speculation on the rest? If you don’t feel like thinking, feel free to click here and and see the current speculation of some other dude. A lot of them seem extremely reasonable, but then a few seem kind of odd as well.

Blazing Souls Accelate coming to PSP!

Aksys Games has now announced yet another game that will be making the jump out of Japan and straight onto your PSP. “Blazing Souls Accelate” promises to be a epic strategy RPG that will be sure to capture the attention of anyone who enjoys the genre mixed with stunning artwork and music. The story starts years after the Seven Year War took place with now peace sweeping all the land. You take control of an independent contractor named Zero.

One day Zero finds a mysterious stone infused with a powerful magic known as the Core Elemental. The more sites Zero takes jobs at, the more of these mysterious stones seem to appear. On his travels, he starts to encounter the Human Genomes—new creatures created by God to replace mankind.

“One thirsts for power.

One desires only the eradication of mankind.

And one hopes to retrieve what he has lost.

To get what they desire, each one appears before Zero. Through his battles against the Human Genomes, our protagonist begins to learn the truth about the secret of his birth, and before long finds himself at the very place where he was born…

Finally, he will learn the truth of his existence…”

Aksys Game’s are known for quality all the way through, and this title seems no different. Blazing Souls isn’t just a typical run of the mill strategy RPG, as it is shaking up the general concept with all new features that will be sure to get this game on your radar.

The first is the battle map, which is now fused with your adventure map making everything you do in battle effect the terrain you play on, and vice-versa. Another feature is that of choice, allowing you to pick the way you would like to travel throughout the game, whether it be searching for towns and dungeons at the guild, exploring hidden areas, battling enemies you encounter or watch animated events. There are over 200 different items and skills packed into the game, and also an ability to capture monsters and place them within your party.

Adding to the core of any good turn-based strategy RPG is the way the battle works. Listed is the different strategies you can use to defeat you foes.

  • Actions such as Chain, Charge, Hold, Original Skill, Chain Skill, Special Chain Skill, Break, Break Arts and Overkill are available during the battle!
  • Position your forces on the battlefield and wait for the right moment to string together massive combo attacks using multiple party members—both in melee and at range!

The word “Choice” is a term that would best describe how this game is looking to play out. You play it the best way you seem fit. With all the new ground-breaking features and magnificent artwork, this will be a title to keep your PSP busy later this year.
