Mafia II Demo Now Available

A Mafia II playable demo is now available for download on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, via the Xbox Live Marketplace, Playstation Network and Steam, respectively. The download is free (although is not yet available for Silver members on Xbox Live, as is standard practice on the Marketplace with new demos), and should provide a useful taster of the game before it’s release later this month.

Mafia II (from 2K games) depicts  mobster culture in gritty ’40’s and ’50’s America, where you work your way into and up the Mafia. The game centers around Vito Scaletta, who’s beginning to make a name for himself on the streets of Empire Bay, proving very efficient, someone you can rely on to get a job done. But, when the crimes escalate as he and buddy Joe work to prove themsleves to the Mafia, greater rewards and a higher reputation lead to heavy consequences.

The playable demo lets gamers plunge into the ‘Buzzsaw’ level. The game spans across two era, with this particular level being set during the summer of the ’50’s- time considered the ‘Birth of Cool’. The demo offers a good look at the expansive Empire Bay, which features accurate period details, and also offers an introduction the characters. In this instance you play as Vito, accompanied by buddies Joe and Henry, as they embark on their assignment to take down a mobster known as ‘The Fat Man’.

Mafia II will be released on August 24 in North America, August 26 in Australia and New Zealand, and internationally on 27 August.

Hero of Sparta II – iPhone/iPod Touch Review

Hero of Sparta II

Story:

Sequel to the major hit Hero of Sparta, Hero of Sparta II finds Argos back home in Sparta. After leaving Hell, he’s only got more of it. He must face new creatures and kingdoms to pay for his insolence. He must fight and pray his way through to come out the Hero of Sparta once again!

Sound and Graphics:

To start off, Hero of Sparta II sounds great and looks even better! Besides being optimized for iPhone 4, this game looks amazing on older-gen iPhones/iPod touch as well. It has an amazing environment to move around in and the soundtrack makes you feel as if you are Argos saving Sparta. Every slash, defeat and mini story sounds great! It looks and sounds like you’re actually in the world of Sparta with such great detail in every object Gameloft designed. After playing for an hour, I had to realize this isn’t Sparta and life doesn’t have epic music following you around. It’s great for when you want to escape to the world of fantasy and not come back for a long time. Gameloft always surprises us with better and better graphics. This game looks amazing and is definitely one I feel great playing.

Gameplay and Controls:

The game is meant for those that are quick thinking and lots of action. You’re Argos and you have to save Sparta once again. You fight against many different creatures, big and small and fire-breathing. There are many different combos when it comes to the controls. Lift the control up and you’re suddenly fighting this guy mid-air. Move it around a couple times and you’re slashing this monster to bits. Get a great opportunity for a shot, tap the skull in sequence and you either just killed the guy or took over the monster’s control. Yeah, this is a cool game and one I could play for hours.  It takes only a small while to get used to all the controls, and once you know them this game is hours of entertainment. Defeating dragons, controlling creatures, facing gods and demons – This game has everything a fantasy fan would love! The controls are placed perfectly on the screen, with easy access to all of them. Play on different levels of difficulty. Try playing on Heroic.

Summary:

Hero of Sparta II deserves to be called a sequel. It combines a great-looking environment with amazing controls, music, sound effects and hours of fun and exciting gameplay. All in all, this may be one of the best games to arrive to-date in the App Store. Gods or demons, creatures or human, defeating them is great. Overall I give Hero of Sparta II an EXCELLENT rating of 9.5 out of 10 capsules.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West Developer Diary

Namco & Ninja Theory have now released the first of what seems to be a series of developer diaries for their new epic adventure game, “Enslaved: Odyssey to the West”. In the first installment the development team talks about Monkey and Trip, the two main characters. So tune in below and enjoy the new clip for one of this year’s most promising titles.

The New Splatterhouse Pre-Order Bonus is Awesome…

The newest reincarnation of Splatterhouse has been pushed back more times than I care to remember, but I am finally feeling that this game is finally coming out. Gamestop is now offering a nice 6” statue of the famous Horror mask for anyone that pre-orders the title.

To catch anyone up on what they need to know about the newest installment, here is a list of features for the game:

  • The Classic Franchise Returns – An innovative reinvention of a classic category-killer with an original storyline inspired by Gordon Rennie (Necronauts, Judge Dredd)
  • Re-imagined Enemies – Favorite enemies have evolved into horrific monsters of radical proportions and shocking detail
  • Extreme Gore – Splatterhouse pulls no punches, taking gore and shock value to the next level
  • Regeneration – Real time regeneration eliminates the traditional health bar by showing physical damage & the rebuilding of bone, muscle and skin.
  • Reanimation – Raise an army of slain enemies by gathering Necrotic energy to serve as undead minions.
  • Pulse-Pounding Combat – Use Rick’s deep set of moves, improvised weapons, environmental attacks, two combat modes and unique enemy AI to obliterate enemies at each turn.
    • Splatterkills Engaging combo system that opens up to gruesome Splatterkills, which destroy your enemies with gory and cinematic effects
    • Large-scale enemies Gargantuan and epic scale bosses provide a memorable challenge and experience
    • Varied stages and environments H.P. Lovecraftian art style and direction lend an eerie mood and tone throughout the entire game
    • Weapons Use weapons of all kinds to bludgeon your enemies, ranging from classic 2X4’s to chainsaws and (*gulp*) enemy limbs!
  • The only game with a combination of massive enemies, over-the-top gore and the ability to regenerate body parts real-time
  • Inspired from icons of the horror genre, including H.P. Lovecraft & Simon Bisley
  • A AAA reinvention of the famed Splatterhouse title that launched the horror-escape genre and invited the very first “parental advisory” for a video game (for gore), uniting an existing fan base and recruiting a new one
  • A supercharged soundtrack with songs from today’s most influential Heavy Metal artists

It is great to see this title from Namco-Bandai getting some attention finally and I have very high hopes for it to be great. Splatterhouse is set to release on October 26th of this year for the Xbox 360 & PS3 and is sure to bring out fans for this huge revival of one of the most loved franchises of the video game world.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior Receives a Patch…

Anyone who owns a copy of Sniper: Ghost Warrior probably will admit a few flaws in the title. Developer City Interactive has now announced news of a patch that hopes to improve upon many aspects of the sniping simulation game.

“We are pleased to deliver the Xbox 360 patch for Sniper: Ghost Warrior and give gamers the most realistic sniper video game experience to date,” said Marek Tymiński, CEO of City Interactive. “These improvements to Sniper: Ghost Warrior speak to our commitment to the game’s loyal community of fans, and assures future audiences of the production standard City Interactive adheres to.”

What is in the patch you may ask? Here is a list of all the features below:

Game A.I.

  • Hones camouflage system so players are less vulnerable to enemy sight when hidden in vegetation;
  • Adjusts enemies’ ability to see players at long distances;
  • Adjusts players’ posture and movement speed when spotted by enemies;
  • Improves AI behavior in combat situations;
  • Includes an improved stealth system.

Multiplayer

  • Adjusts duration of breath-holding ability;
  • Improved bullet ballistics for all weapons;
  • Indicators of the enemy locations on the radar have been improved.

Weapons

  • Adjusts melee attack strength;
  • Modifies damage, accuracy and range of AI weapons.

Improvements and adjustments galore that should make any owner of the game happy. The patch for Sniper: Ghost Warrior on Xbox 360 is now available for immediate and automatic download when players connect to Xbox LIVE with the game.

Bioshock: Infinite Trailer

May i just say that this is an epic trailer?

Supposedly you play as a former Pinkerton agent, Booker DeWitt who is sent to the airborne city of Columbia to rescue a young lady named Elizabeth. She has been imprisoned in Columbia since childhood. You are required to form a close relationship with Elizabeth, and augment your powers with hers in an attempt to escape from Columbia before it falls out of the sky. Using Elizabeth’s powers however will make your progression easier, but weaken her own life force creating a choice of whether to keep her safe or progress more easily.

This is Bioshock, so you’ll have numerous powers and weapons at your disposal to fight battles both inside and outside the enormous city. Supposedly there is a grappling hook that you use to traverse as well.

Check out the teaser site – whatisicarus.com for more, and check out the trailer below.

BioShock Infinite is set for a 2012 release.

COD: Black Ops Hardened and Prestige Edition Details

Last time we had night vision goggles this time we have a RC-XD surveillance vehicle comes in this Call of Duty’s Package. This RC car is a fully working replica toy that you can mess about with, the bomb that is found within the game is absent however.

The RC car has a range of over 200 feet and a built-in remote camera which transmits images back to the monitor on the controller. Ill leave your imagination to figure out what you could do with that.

The Hardened Edition will be bundled in the Prestige Edition package with the car, and includes a special steelbook case and a card to redeem Xbox Live Avatar items and four extra co-op maps.

While the avatar outfit will probably be an exclusive, I am sure the Co-op maps will eventually peak their heads out on the xbox live marketplace as purchasable DLC.
