Worms Merchandise Line Coming

Ever wanted your own pet worm?

No? Oh.

Well, how about one with huge eyes, a funny accent and a bazooka in its floaty armless hands?

Well, Team 17 is finally giving you worms. Plush worms. Toy worms. Worms on T-shirts. Worms everywhere, man.

After fifteen years of Worms video games, Team 17 are finally offering their invertebrate IP to worldwide licensing agent AT New Media. Put simply, this means we can expect to see Worms merchandise in stores in the near future.

I hadn’t thought of it until I heard this news, but the absence of a merchandising campaign for a franchise like Worms, a video game staple since 1995, is really quite strange. With such quirky characters, cutely designed and bursting with personality, the potential for plush Worms toys and figures is a huge untapped market.  Even the weapons have more personality than some video game characters, with classics like the Sheep, Concrete Donkey, Holy Hand Grenade, Banana Bomb, and the dithering Old Woman. I can’t wait to see what merchandise options they come up with for this one.

While the 3D iterations lost some of the finesse of the earlier 2D games, the franchise has reverted back to the old 2D gameplay, to become top-selling titles on the Playstation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, WiiWare, Nintendo DS, Steam and iOS platforms. With a strong merchandise line behind it, the franchise is likely to go from strength to strength. And maybe then I won’t be the only one wanting a pet worm with homicidal tendencies.

DanceDanceRevolution Hottest Party 4 Prepares to Step out on the Wii!

Before titles like Just Dance and Dance Central took over the scene of dance game genre, the DanceDanceRevolution series was the true innovator and opened the doors for those said titles years ago when we were sticking our quarters in arcade machines to get a dancing fix. Konami have now released some new information on the latest title in the franchise which is coming to the Wii, DanceDanceRevolution Hottest Party 4, and by the look of it we could very well see the franchise back on top with this installment.

As well as using the standard dance mat (or balance board), Hottest Party 4 will have full body controls which will let players take the WiiMote and Nunchuck as well as the pad/board peripherals to create a full on dancing experience for the Wii. This method of play is being targeted to all dance genre fans as well as veterans of the famed series to bring a bit more depth to the game itself.

Up to four players will be able to compete at once, trying to rack up the highest scores possible with the game. The music of course is boasting to be one of the series strongest yet as well, with tracks such as Lady Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance’, Paramore’s ‘CrushCrushCrush’ and the classic ‘Celebration’ from Kool and the Gang. 30 other Konami tracks will also be featured all specifically designed to test the players co-ordination and rhythm. A calorie counter will also be available in the title, letting players who want to concentrate on fitness get their fix in as well.

I really like the idea of having the pad represented as well as the motion hand controls with the nunchuck and WiiMote, and this very well could get games like Just Dance to integrate more of a full body control into their titles like we see here. Of course Konami have literally pioneered the genre with DDR over the years, so I am happy to see that they will be behind what could be a massive step up from the hand-only dance titles on the Wii. DanceDanceRevolution Hottest Party 4 Launches on April 28th.

Test Drive Unlimited 2 – DLC and Patch Incoming

“We really appreciate your patience in this matter and we would like to announce that we will be making the first premium DLC for the game free for everybody as a way of saying thank you,” was a statement from Atari and Eden Games towards the large community of Test Drive unlimited 2 players who helped find and report tons of bugs located throughout the game.

The DLC will be the ‘Exploration Pack’. This pack introduces new wrecks throughout the game that unlocks the Lancia Stratos version Rallye and 1969 Dodge Charger.

The patch on the other hand will include a bunch of fixes for both Test Drive Unlimited 2 and the Casino Online DLC. The Patch will release once Microsoft gives it the O.K.

Here’s a list of the issues that will be fixed in the patch once it comes out:

L.A. Noire’s boxart revealed

Despite the fact that L.A. Noire has a history of being late to the scene of the crime it looks like it will finally be arriving on May 17th. Sure Team Bondi and Rockstar can give it a set release date but now that they have released the official box art, it all feels real now. According to Rockstar Games there will be more information about pre-order content and exclusive content depending on where players are looking to buy the game tomorrow.

But at least at the moment we have this very colorful looking boxart which can signify the red and blue lights that cop cars have on top of their vehicles and also depicts a dead woman’s face on one side with another dead man with cops standing near him on the other. Not the best boxart I have ever seen but it certainly makes you feel like the game you will be playing is definitely going to be dark. What do you think?

Nintendo Announces New Pokémon Black & White Bundles; Details Xtransceiver…

We are just a bit under two weeks away from the much anticipated release of Pokémon Black & White, and Nintendo have now revealed that along with the release of both titles, two DSi bundles will also be offered featuring etched in art of the two mascots in the games. The Reshiram and Zekrom Edition DSi bundles will be both black and white to fit the release of the new titles and include not only a copy of Black or White (depending on which version you get), but also a nice title specific carrying case. If you remember, this kind of offering is nothing new for Nintendo, as just about every new generation sees a themed console come out with a new set of titles, so it is nice to see the tradition to continue with these awesome bundles.

Nintendo has also shed light on the Xtransceiver device, which will let players utilize the DSi Features to perform a video chat with players they have swapped friend codes with. This is a first of course for the console in general, and up to four players can use the Xtransceiver over local wireless, or two players on a Nintendo Wi-Fi connection. I really didn’t think this feature would stay in, but I am happy it did as it opens a whole new door for future online gaming with portables.

If you are still holding on to a DS original model or a DS Lite, these new bundles will be a great upgrade to host all of the new features Pokémon Black & White have to offer, not to mention that with the extra case and game included, will make an upgrade just a bit easier on your wallet at $179.99.

Leave a comment below and let us know what you think of the bundles pictured above as well as what version you plan on getting and if any new Pokémon Black or White news is announced, we will be sure to let you know.

Dead Space 2 “Severed” DLC announced

In case your underpants weren’t quite soiled enough after Dead Space 2, Visceral Games is releasing the first DLC for the title in early March. Appropriately titled Severed, will add two new single player chapters to the game. Set at the same time as Isaac’s journey through the Sprawl, this time around players will take the role of Gabe Weller, who appeared in the prequel to the series, Dead Space: Extraction.

Severed will tell the story of Weller, who, as a security officer, seems a little better equipped for the onslaught than Isaac was. He sports unique security armour and an upgraded, more powerful Pulse Rifle, to help clear a path to safety for himself and Lexine, also from Extraction.

Also making a return is the Twitcher, those freaky, speedy, jittery guys from the first game that move twice as fast as a normal necromorph. Their absence in Dead Space 2 was lamented, so their reappearance is sure to make for some tense fights.

Severed is due on the Playstation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace on March 1st in America and 2nd in Europe (and presumably Australia). The American price is $6.99, or 560 Microsoft Points, with the Australian price assumed to be around the same mark.

Salt Lake City has been bombed – A Homefront trailer

THQ and KAOS Studios have been telling us for awhile that Homefront will have a gripping story.  If the trailer below is any indication, we are in for an emotional roller coaster when it releases.  Once you get done with the trailer, visit the game’s website here and read the survivors journal entries.  It is quite an interesting experience.

By the looks of it, THQ is banking on this title a lot.  With plans for a book tie in and more, the extended universe for the game is looking pretty interesting.  So, what do you think? Should games be more than just a game?  Will you get hooked into a Korean occupation story and buy the latest action figures, books or movies as soon as they release?

In-Game trailer of Skyrim to appear tomorrow

There has been so many teaser shots, concept art pieces and possible in-game screenshots released so far for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim it is huge when even the existence of an in-game trailer is announced. Even more exciting is the fact that trailer will be coming out in 16 hours at the time of writing this. At Bethesda’s website they will be posting up the video tomorrow morning.

Also included, besides the countdown to trailer release, was a fancy new wallpaper for fans to use until something better comes along. The wallpaper itself, which you can see above, looks to have a warrior’s outline in the shadows with a dragon’s tail coiling around him. Now how much time is left until the trailer is released and what will they show the information starved fans of the Elder Scrolls?

Battlefield 3 Trailer – More gritty; more awesome (Updated with new video)

Well, if people could tell if a game was good or bad just by watching 30 seconds of video, there would be no need for reviews, right?  But, if you insist on watching the new trailer for Battlefield 3 and deeming the content therein awesome, then we TOTALLY AGREE!  Like, for real.  Featuring actual gameplay footage, this video shows that the game looks to be pretty darn gritty and realistic.  Four marines are will travel across Tehran, New York and Paris while destroying anything in their path that impedes them.

Pre-order the game now and receive the ‘Back to Karkand’ DLC, a map pack featuring 4 maps from Battlefield Bad Company 2.  “Battlefield 2 weapons and vehicles, unique rewards, new achievements/trophies” will also be included in this bonus.  Pre-order here: http://www.ea.com/battlefield3/blog/bf3-pre-order

Thanks to jaypea360, we now have the newest gameplay trailer from today.
