Yakuza 4 only slightly edited for U.S. release

Looks like Yakuza 4 will arrive on Western shores almost a hundred percent intact. This comes despite the fact that Yakuza 3 suffered quite a few cuts with entire gameplay segments being removed. Thanks to Siliconera it appears that only two things had to be removed this time around and neither of them was to avoid any potential criticisms about the content.

The two features that were cut was an Answer x Answer quiz game because the questions themselves were based on a series of text images and could not be translated without completely editing the game itself and the Opening song was changed because they could not acquire the license to use the original song in the American release. Despite that fact all other aspects of the game are unchanged.

GAME set to take pre-orders for used games

In a move that will leave publishers and anti-used-game activists quite stunned, UK used game retailer GAME will soon begin offering a pre-order service for pre-owned games that are coming out in the future. This news comes from MCV and apparently the service is currently only in a trial mode which allows users of GAME.co.uk to pre-order used versions of Crysis 2, Homefront, Dragon Age II, Shift 2: Unleashed and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12.

This service means that rather than being able reserve a copy of the game when it comes out, you instead reserve the first used game sold back to GAME. These used games will not be given out until a week after the new version’s release date and each are currently priced at £33.99. This move is questionable at best but if it does turn out to be fruitful then the Used game market will get a new tool in its arsenal.

Gears of War 3 beta starts April 18th for Bulletstorm owners; April 25th for Gamestop pre-order

It looks like purchasers of Bulletstorm’s Epic Edition are feeling less and less special every day because it was just announced by Epic and GameStop themselves that if you pre-order the game from their company you will be able to gain access to the Gears of War 3 beta on April 25th. Sure this is a week later than those who bought Bulletstorm but how many people bought Bullestorm thinking it was their only way into the beta, only to find out this information after the fact.

With this announcement also comes a full list of unlockable content that is obtainable in the Gears of War 3 Beta and can be used in the full game after it comes out. Catch the full list below and remember you only have three weeks to get a hold of your golden chainsaws.

  • Beta Tester Medal – Complete one match in the beta to unlock the Beta Tester medal, which will carry over to your gamer profile in the final game. The Beta Tester title will be featured in the “Gears 3” multiplayer lobby as well.

Play Daft Punk on your keyboard

Specifically, Harder Better Faster Stronger.  This is actually pretty cool, it’s a small website with a virtual keyboard up on the screen that allows you to play “Harder Better Faster Stronger” by either pressing the buttons on the screen or pressing the keys on your keyboard.  For those who haven’t heard the song, it’s pretty great and simple to play since it’s only made up for 16 words.  Anyways, give this a try, it’s good for killing a few minutes and it’s an awesome song to boot.

Double XP all weekend on CoD: Black Ops

If you haven’t hit that 15th level of prestige yet then now is your chance to get yourself even closer to a gold gun and a colored clan tag because as of right now until March 7th (Monday) there will be double XP for everything that you do in Call of Duty: Black Ops. This is regardless of whether or not you purchased the First Strike map pack.

This double XP weekend coincides with the fact that the First Strike map pack is now available for the PC and the PS3 and also marks the second time that Xbox 360 users have a chance for have double XP. Regardless of this fact it certainly seems like a lot more people will be getting shot this weekend by an M16 across the map.

NGP in development since 2008

Apparently the NGP has been under development since the start of 2008. This news comes from Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida himself as he makes a few statements about the development process for the Next Generation Portable. This matches the same time rumors circulated on the internet that Sony was working on a new handheld.

Yoshida also explained that the reason for the lack of first party games being released for the PSP was because Sony had already begun working on the NGP and felt no need to continue supporting the PSP with first party content. Since they started working on the NGP only sixteen different games had been released by Sony themselves.  This is understandable but also depressing when you think of what games could have been made if Sony still had supported the PSP with their own games.

Splinter Cell 3D gets a trailer and not much else

Are you ready to see a trailer which takes some of the worst aspects of 3D movies and emphasizes them in the first few seconds? Then you are in luck because Ubisoft released a new trailer today for Splinter Cell 3D and right off the bat we get the generic bullet coming through glass as it flies towards the screen look. Unfortunately my emphasis on the bullet itself is because not much else was shown for the trailer.

We are shown little else besides some action sequences that are not from gameplay, and what the final boxart may look like. Unfortunately at this time there is no set release date, nor any information on the story so fans of Sam Fisher will need to wait a little longer.

Gabe Newell gives his account info out to show Steam Guard’s protection

You have to give Valve’s Gabe Newell some credit, he at least stands behind the products that his company supports. Today at GDC he demonstrated the efficiency of Steam’s new security measure that they are calling Steam Guard. He did this by not only letting everyone see him log into his personal steam account but then went so far as to tell everyone his account name and password and then challenge those in attendance to try and hack into his account.

I don’t know if Gabe has been around the internet lately but usually challenging hackers to try and break into your supposed unbreakable account is really not a smart idea, especially when those in the depths of the internet hear about it. There is also a high chance that this account is simply a dummy that doesn’t actually contain any information other than to test how fast their Steam Guard can be broken.

Dynasty Warriors 7 – Gameplay at the GDC!

Dynasty Warriors 7 was shown off at the Game Developers Conference, and Tecmo Koei was kind enough to film some of it.

Releasing on April 1, 2011, the game will tell the story of “Shu, Wei, Wu and the new Kingdom of Jin.”   It will be  available on the the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Although the Dynasty Warriors franchise has had many games, this game does introduce a new element.  Called Conquest Mode, you can basically take up your favorite character, run around and kick ass.  Plus you will earn extra benefits like the ability to create new weapons.  You can also choose your favorite songs from the game to play in the background while you play this mode.
