House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut denied classification in Australia

Bad news for any Australian gamer hoping to play the updated version of Sega’s House of the Dead: Overkill. The title has been refused classification in Australia, which means it is banned from being sold in the country. The R18+ rating which has been approved by legislation has not been applied and will be done so later this year, but unfortunately not soon enough for House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Edition.

The game has been banned for “high impact violence” which is strange considering the Wii version of the title was left alone and released without censorship. This banning is a bit strange considering other games with more intense violence are given MA15+ ratings and slide by without a hitch. You can find the full description below as provided by Gamespot, though perhaps this ban won’t last long as SEGA has already stated they will appeal this decision.

The game contains very frequent, unrelenting and detailed violence accompanied by copious blood and gore detail inflicted on zombies and mutant beings. The player can use a variety of weapons including a crossbow that causes the zombies/mutants to explode on impact as well as handguns, hand cannons, machine guns, mini guns and assault rifles that may cause decapitations, dismemberment and blood spray.

The “Hardcore” game mode allows the player to play in a manner that exceeds strong in impact engaging a headshot-only mode which results in frequent, detailed blood and gore as the zombies and mutants heads explode into bloody pieces that spread around the environment and onto the screen. The game also contains an “Extra mutants mode” which increases the amount of mutants the player must kill to proceed, resulting in an increased intensity and frequency of violence. In addition the game contains a baby mutant that jumps onto the screen and explodes into bloody chunks when killed.

Kinect Star Wars and 360 bundle delayed until 2012

For those hoping to acquire a Star Wars themed Xbox 360, or even those aiming a little lower at the Kinect Star Wars title for this holiday season, we have some bad news for you. Microsoft told the Official Xbox Magazine UK today that they had to make the difficult decision to delay the title and bundle until next year so that the game will reach its “full potential.” No updated release date was given at the time of this reveal.

This is rather sad news for Kinect owners as this would easily have been one of the best titles to pick up this holiday season, especially for avid Star Wars fans. Though that doesn’t mean that there won’t be plenty of other Kinect titles out this holiday season.

Chunsoft, makers of 999, developing new title for 3DS and Vita

It seems that Chunsoft, the team behind the escape focused title 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors is going to be joining forces yet again to create another title similar to the first at least in regards to its genre. Andriasang reports that Famitsu has printed some information for their new title, saying it will not be a sequel but could still take place in the same relative gamespace.

The game will be called Gyokugen Dasshutsu Adv: Zennin Shiboudes while the Gyokugen Dasshutsu roughly translates into Extreme Escape, which was the same beginning half of the Japanese version of 999. The title is being developed for both the PlayStation Vita and the Nintendo 3DS, but at the moment there is no news if this title will be brought overseas once completed.

New ‘The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn’ Screenshots From Gameloft

Gameloft has released new screenshots for their mobile video game adaptation of Steven Spielberg’s upcoming blockbuster ‘The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn’. This video game adaptation of the famous comic book character Tintin follows himself, his faithful companion Snowy and inseparable friend Captain Haddock in search of treasure lost in the wreckage of “The Unicorn”.

Judging by the new screenshots, Gameloft seems to have captured the same look and feel of the film. Specially designed and created for mobile portable devices, ‘The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn’ will be available for iOS, Android and Java based smart phones and tablet devices in around October.

The Avengers Australian Release Date Announced

The Walt Disney company has announced a release schedule showing The Avengers Australian release date which may raise a few eyebrows. As it turns out, The Avengers is being released in Australia on April 25, 2012, while American theatres will receive it on May 4, 2012. That’s a week before American theatres! This isn’t anything new for Marvel Studios however, as Thor was released a striking 2 weeks earlier down under than it was in the states! On the other hand, Australia did get DC Comic’s Green Lantern a few months after it’s debut American release, so perhaps this makes things even for comic book fans?

Regardless, the cross-over of the hit Marvel films Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger is going to be a monumental achievement in comic book and film history, just hopefully it can live up to it’s hype! But how do you think the Avengers will go, and what do you think about Aussies getting it a week earlier? Let us know in the comment section below!
