Halo Fans Build a Living Monument to One of Gaming’s Biggest Franchises

In the lead up to the release of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary and the tenth anniversary of the Halo franchise, Microsoft and 343 Industries invited fans to commemorate the event by building a living monument to the hero of the series, Master Chief.

Players can upload their fondest memories of the Halo franchise via a screenshot at HaloLivingMonument.com right now, and their contribution will be seamlessly integrated into an interactive, 3D mosaic of Master Chief which contains images from all the other submissions from around the world. Users will be able to explore the mosaic and rate others’ submissions and share them with friends on Facebook and Twitter. Fans can also simply upload a comment about their favorite Halo memory.

But for the fans who do put up a picture, they’ll have the chance to see their contributions immortalized in a personalized, love action “Halo Tribute” video meant to acknowledge and honor the fans and the community of the storied franchise.

And they haven’t forgotten the local Australian community either, as fans from Australia and New Zealand can go to facebook.com/XboxANZ to unlock a “Service to Halo Award” application. From the app, they’ll be able to from over 75 customizable badges to create their own personal halo badges to share with other fans on Facebook.

These awards seem to be just as much humour as fan service, as mentioned in the official press release:

Awards such as Mr. Moon Shoes: For services to the ever prevailing multiplayer strategy of jumping. And making it look like a fine art and Sir Camps-A-Lot: The patience demonstrated in your ability to sit and wait for respawn kills says as much about your character as it does your fine abilities, are just a taste of what’s on offer before fans start creating their own tributes to the game.

So if you’re a Halo fan, be sure to go check out the website, and immortalize your favorite Halo moment.

The latest movie, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked hits theaters December 16th and while many fans of all ages are sure to check out that flick, the video game bearing the same name has now released for the Xbox 360 Kinect, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo DS as of today.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 screens show off monster adornments, leveling and fixing spacetime

While Serah’s main goal is to try and track down her lost sister Lightning, there are other problems happening in the world of Final Fantasy XIII-2. Namely the fact that spacetime itself is becoming unstable and various parts of history and time are being removed. Players must seek out Artefacts to activate Historia Crux gates and open up paths to other times.

Besides that however, the screenshots seen below reveal a little bit more about the monsters that will be your third party member. Players can customize them by giving their monsters decorative items called adornments, ranging from sunglasses, to a bow tie and other random and silly things as well. Monsters can also be sacrificed and infused into newer monsters to make them stronger. Check out all the screens below.

Resident Evil: Revelations co-op locked until single player is finished

Those hoping to jump into the co-op mode known as Raid Mode in Resident Evil: Revelations better keep those hopes in check because it was revealed during a Nintendo retailer briefing by Resident Evil: Revelations producer Masachika Kawata that the co-op mode would be locked initially and can only be unlocked after finishing the main campaign.

It was also revealed that Jessica and Obrian would be unlockable after the main campaign, which has been said to take around 10 hours to complete, was finished as well. So gamers can expect some decent replayability from the title before they jump into the Raid Mode. Resident Evil fans can expect to see Resident Evil: Revelations next year in February exclusively on the 3DS.

This week’s Nintendo Downloads bring Kirby’s Adventure…in 3D!

If your a Kirby fan, you can now rejoice as the eShop has quite a treat in store for fans of the famous pink Puff this week. Kirby’s Adventure is the latest to join the “3D Classics” on the service as of today and lets players experience every single level with 3D enhanced visuals for the game’s entirety. For those who don’t remember, this was the first game in the series to introduce ability copying and has Kirby set out to restore the Star Rod while traveling throughout several bright and cheery locations. You can snag this NES masterpiece up for yourself for just $5.99.

Kirby isn’t alone this week, as the DSiWare services are seeing a few new downloads as well. Escape Trick – Convenience Store is a bit like it sounds and consists of the player trying to find a way out of a locked convenience store for $4.99.

Our very own MasterAbbott is in China right now and since he hasn’t a clue of the native language, this next app may come in handy for his trip. Yes, “Play and Learn Chinese” acts as a tutor and lets the player learn and write Mandarin Chinese while having a bit of fun in the process. This teacher is priced at $7.99.

Nintendo Video is still offering up more Zelda love with “The Legend of Zelda Great Fairy’s Fountain Theme”, and finally the WiiWare is providing us with a new kind of storytelling in the appropriately titled “Pinocchio’s Puzzle” for 500 points.

Yep, that’s a wrap! So which one of these downloads are you planning on grabbing this week? My own answer can be found in the video below. 😉

Dovahkiin baby born on 11/11/11, lifetime Bethesda titles awarded

Remember way back when Bethesda gave an offer to their fans? They said that anyone who had a child be born on 11/11/11, the same date as Skyrim was released, and then named “Dovahkiin” they would end up getting a lifetime supply of Bethesda titles. Well, some people may not have went for this deal but it appears that one die-hard gamer family took them up on it.

This is because an 8 pound 1/2 ounce Dovahkiin Tom Kellermeyer is now the proud owner of perhaps one of the most unique names ever. The day before the baby was born, the mother wrote that “We’ve toyed with Dovahkiin and the ramifications of naming a child that name, and that name being based on a video game character (however awesome), and what impact that would have on him. But the more I thought of it, the more I settled on Dovahkiin, contest or no.” With this, the family get a lifetime supply of Bethesda titles and a Dragon Born baby.

Metal Gear Solid: Rising producer shuffled around again

Ever since Metal Gear Solid: Rising was announced, we’ve seen barely anything for the title whether it has been media or even news. However one thing we have heard is that the game’s producer has switched around multiple times since the game was announced. First we saw Kojima passing the title over to Shigenobu Matsuyama and now the title has been passed over to Yuji Korekado who also is working on the Zone of Enders HD collection.

The news has been confirmed by Kojima Productions, so at least we know for sure who will be handling the title when we see some information about it at this year’s VGAs. The first time we’ve seen anything substantial for the title in over a year.

Skyrim can lag heavily on PlayStation 3

While some people always have their console of choice, perhaps selecting a specific game for that console isn’t always the best thing. For example, the 360 version of Skyrim has issues with textures when you install the disc to the hard drive. Now however it seems that the PlayStation 3 version of the title has a much bigger problem. That problem being is that the game can end up slowing to a disastrous crawl at times.

The reason that is being blamed for the lag is due to the large save files that occur after hours of playing and adventuring. Apparently, once a save data file reaches around 5 or 6 MB in size the game will end up being nearly unplayable with NPCs and quest completion failing heavily. According to PlayStation Magazine’s Tim Clark, resetting your PS3 fixes the problem for a few hours but that is all.

Currently Bethesda is looking in to fixing the problem, but for now you can learn more at the complaint forum for the title.

Modern Warfare 3 hits $775 million in five days

With Modern Warfare 3 being out for a little more than a week, Activision has decided to announce the five day sales that the game has made. And boy what sales they have been, Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has broken the five-day sales records for any movie, book or video game that has come before with a whopping $775 million worldwide.

Last year’s Black Ops made $650 million while MW2 only made $550 million two years ago. They also revealed that the title has broken the Xbox Live record for most concurrent users at one time on November 8th with 3.3 million people playing at one time. So… Modern Warfare 3 is successful is what we’re trying to say here.

LOTR: War in the North tips and tricks list

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today released a list of tips and trick to help you with their upcoming Lord of the Rings: War in the North game, which hits retail outlets on 25th November. Will these tips and tricks help you through Middle Earth? Check them out:

LoTR WiTN: Tips and Tricks:

1. Sick of that troll knocking you to the ground? Try using your rolling dodge to avoid unblockable attacks by pressing B (Xbox 360), Circle (PlayStation 3), or Spacebar (PC). [Alternate without using buttons: Sick of that troll knocking you to the ground? Try using the rolling dodge to avoid unblockable attacks.]

2. Did you know that skill attacks aren’t just limited to melee combat? Enter Ranged Mode to view your ranged skill attacks. Note: some ranged skill attacks can charge up to do extra damage.

3. War in the North is all about loot. The color of the item’s name will tell you if it’s Common (white), Uncommon (green), Rare (blue), or Epic (purple) – each with better qualities than the last.

4. Did you know Beleram can attack certain structures, like crossbow turrets or towers? Use Ranged Mode to target a structure and then call in Beleram by using a Great Feather.

5. Whichever weapon you use, landing a critical strike on an enemy initiates Hero Mode so you can gain more XP and do extra damage.

6. Missed an on-screen tutorial message? Visit the Log, and select Tutorial Messages to scroll through a list of helpful hints and tricks.

7. One of the best ways to perfect your combat skills is a Challenge Map, unlocked after Sarn Ford. Beat these challenges for extra XP.

8. There are many potions that give your character bonuses. Use Andriel’s racial ability to craft them, and then put them to use in a tight spot.

9. Want to tell your allies to defend their position, or attack a wave of enemies? Press up on the D-pad (or C on the keyboard) to tell your allies to go on the offensive, and down on the D-pad (or Z on the keyboard) to have them hold their ground.

10. Want Andriel to throw a sanctuary around you while playing solo? Move away from the fray and press down on the d-pad (so that your AI companions go into defensive mode). If there’s room from enemies, and she can break away, she’ll come to your aid.
11. Want to move an item around in your inventory? For console players, select the item in the Inventory screen, then hold the Ranged Attack button to move the item. For PC, simply left click, hold, and then drag and drop to a new inventory slot.

12. Keep an eye out for armor sets! If you equip multiple pieces of the same set, your bonuses will increase with each piece you wear.

13. Need to break the block of a tough enemy? Hold your block button then use your normal melee attack to push the enemy back forcefully, allowing you a chance to hit them.
