Of Orcs and Men – Teaser Trailer #1

Being constantly hunted down by the Empire of Men might put a damper on your life expectancy. As an orc and goblin, you must be fearless as the Emperor of Men rages war against your people. The only way to end this conflict is to take down the Emperor himself.

Focus Home Interactive in junction with Cyanide and Spiders presents a new trailer for the 2012 RPG Of Orcs and Men. In the first teaser trailer, you get to see the two heroes of the story in active gameplay. Each character presents two very different playing styles. The orc offers an aggressive style of combat where he vaults himself into a fray of soldiers. On the other hand, the goblin acts more as an assassin preying on enemies from the shadows.

Check out the trailer below, and get ready for the rebellion in 2012.

Purple Dildos Claims 2 Million Lives in Saints Row: The Third

Ladies and gentlemen… big purple dildos covering baseball bats have officially claimed the lives of 2 million residents of Steelport. However, this figure is small when compared to the figure of lives lost in the carnage that is Saints Row: The Third. A total of 5.8 billion lives have been lost from gang and senseless violence. May all of those who have departed rest in piece.

In addition to the above figures, THQ has compiled a report on what else has been going on in Steelport:

    1. Players have spent a cumulative total of two years in their birthday suits.
    1. In Whored Mode, 44 million pimps, gimps and prostitutes have been dispatched.
    1. 650 hot dog mascots have been overcooked to death by players using a flamethrower.

Uncharted Series Sells 13 Million Worldwide

It has been no doubt one of the biggest series of games in the seventh generation. So it is no surprise that the Uncharted series has sold 13 million copies worldwide. An achievement deserving for Naughty Dog and Sony. This figure was revealed by Asad Quizilbash, who happens to be the product marketing manager for Uncharted 3, in an interview with Industry Games.

Now, even though Quizilbash mentioned 13 million copies of all three games combined have been sold, he does not mention which side they he is talking about. He could either be talking about the sales to consumers or the sales to retailers. But, at the end of the day, does it really matter? The Uncharted series is one of the best series of video games in recent years. To reach such a feat is an achievement it its own right. Congratulations to the Uncharted series. Now, can this momentum stream through the first portable iteration, Uncharted: Golden Abyss for the Playstation Vita? We shall see.

Jiminy Cricket Joins Riku In Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance

It looks like the cricket from Pinocchio is getting an expanded role in Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance. Jiminy Cricket will be a companion of Riku, if the above screenshot is anything to go by. Riku will encounter him in a world entitled Prankster’s Paradise. This happens to be the homeworld of Pinocchio and possibly other characters from the Disney animated movie. It is unknown what purpose Jiminy will serve if he does not retain his role of official journey writer.

Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance will also use the Deck Command system that was developed and implemented in Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep, for the Playstation Portable. According to Siliconera, a few of the abilities have been revealed. Ice Breaker, Dark Breaker and Blizzaga will be in the final game. The 3DS game will be release in the spring in Japan. No release date has been revealed for other territories.

Here Is A Strange Saints Row Music Video

Well… Saints Row: The Third is certainly a strange and crude game. Of course, if you have the game, then you already know that. For those who haven’t, maybe you should check out this… wacky video. Entitled “Some Asshole Is In My Pool,” it divulges into some dance moves with Michael Jackson in the background, gunplay, skydiving and full frontal pixelated nudity. Yeah…

The video was posted by XBLStallion83. It is somewhat entertaining, but the crude humour in Saints Row: the Third has been debatable to say the least. Saints Row: The Third is available right now for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Ryan: PS3 To Target Younger Audience

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe boss Jim Ryan has revealed that the Playstation 3 might be targeted at a younger, family friendly audience in the future. He also revealed that the £199 is still considered too high in an interview with Official Playstation Magazine. He considers that, with the still considered high price point in place, may Playstation 3 units will not be sold.

Here is what Ryan had to say:

“If you look back at the history on PS1, PS2 the vast majority of the business that we did on both those platforms was done at the sub £129 price points. Now we’ve only got to £199 in the UK a couple of month back so you can see there’s still a lot of PS3’s potentially to be sold.”

The change of demographic will not effect the core market, Ryan has revealed. Sony Computer Entertainment has been applauded for their support of the hardcore market. Here is his opinion on the shift of demographic:

“I think you’ll see us taking the console more towards a slightly younger demographic. More family market. The core gamer will absolutely not be neglected. There’s going to be tons of great stuff for the core gamer but from our own studio, third parties there’s some quite interesting stuff happening in a number of areas which would allow us to open up a market that we accessed pretty successfully on both PS1 and PS2 but haven’t yet got to on PS3.”

Final Fantasy XIV Payment Period Begins In January

Since its lackluster launch, Final Fantasy XIV has been free to play. That will all change as Square Enix will start billing players for the privilege to play the continuously improving MMO. The Japanese publishing giant will being their billing period on January 6, 2012. So, for the time being, the game is still free to play, after the cost of actually buying the game at your retailer or online store.

The minimum a player will need to pay will be $9.99 per month for a 30 day subscription fee. This includes a $3.00 character fee. Why would an MMO charge a player for creating multiple character? Other MMOs don’t include a fee for extra characters. Maybe some do, but many don’t. There are other options for longer subscriptions. There will be a 90 day subscription available for $17.97 ($5.99 per month) or a 180 day subscription for $29.94 ($4.99 per month). This is leading up to the release of Version 2.0 early 2013.

Fruit Ninja Will Get A Sequel

Halfbrick is one of the biggest success stories coming out of the Australian development scene. They hit success with Fruit Ninja on iOS. It is a game where you slice fruit for a high score. The game has expanded to various platforms since release but it has been revealed that their new Sydney studio, which is yet to open, will be developing a sequel to be released in 2012 for iOS devices, although expansion to other platforms is not out of the question. The New South Wales government has injected AU$3 million into the new studio.

Deputy Premier of New South Wales Andrew Stoner revealed the sequel. Odd that a deputy premier would be the one to reveal the game’s development:

“The new Sydney team will develop the next evolution of the Fruit Ninja games franchise. It will involve players launching a series of fruit to knock ninjas off their towers in a 3D world, with each fruit having special powers.”

This looks like part of a plan to expand digital media development in New South Wales. This is what Stoner had to say about the wider plan:

“The digital games sector will be increasingly important in developing serious business and education tools, as well as entertainment games like the latest Fruit Ninja project.”

Now, where was the government when Sydney studios were going under? Why Halfbrick? Yes, they are talented developers, no doubt about that. But is the iOS platform actually a viable long term investment? In my own opinion and you can disagree with me, I believe it won’t be. I look at the smartphone situation as a bubble market. If you have a hit, that hit could only be a hit for a week or even a couple of days. Developers are treading on water when they rely on the smartphone and digital markets.

Who Are The Bosses In Lord of Apocalypse?

Time for another video from Square Enix for their Playstation Portable and Playstation Vita game, Lord of Apocalypse. This video goes into what bosses the players will be facing in the game. They range from multiple type of demons, a knight on top of a gigantic squid/octopus and even some stone type of monster.

What makes these bosses interesting is how gigantic some of these are. Surely we will see some epic battles throughout the game’s story. Each boss will also receive an ultimate spell to use. This would be their ultimate attacks. Expect to battle these bosses when Lord of Apocalypse is released on December 17, both on PSP and Vita. The trailer is below.

Kevin Butler Wants You To Buy The 3D Monitor

0

Kevin Butler has returned and he has continued to help the Playstation brand in advertising their latest products. This time, he has decided to help promote the Playstation 3D monitor. How? He tells people that he doesn’t accept half of things. This goes with split screen on two player gaming modes. He even points out that half the screen may equal half the fun. That is when he points out (or as he says, “invented) SimulView.

The Playstation 3D monitor has SimulView technology. Instead of two half screens, each player would have their own screen to themselves. Yes, a whole screen. He ends with the following quote, “Because half way is no way to play,” eating two halves of a sandwich as a whole sandwich. Too bad the monitor is only 24 inches.

The Playstation 3D monitor is now available in the United States at $499. If you want to watch the ad, you can watch it below.
