Anime releases for November 22nd 2011

In an effort to keep fans more knowledgeable about what anime titles are being released each week in North America we will begin a weekly article explaining what has been released that week. This week we have a few titles released and they are all new releases

First we have Coicent/Five Numbers! which is being released on Blu-ray and DVD separately by Sentai Filmworks. Coicent/Five Numbers! is a combo pack of two unrelated OVAs that each contain a story of their own. In Coicent, a 26th century field trip to a rebuilt 21st century city becomes a wild adventure for teenage Shinichi. First a talking deer steals his bag and then he runs into a strange girl running from pursuers. That is only the tip of the iceberg as these two young people try to find a chance for a new future.

In Five Numbers four people awake to find they have been placed in a prison, they are an ex-soldier, a beautiful woman, an average Joe and a young computer hacker. They have no idea why they are there or what relation they have with each other but one old man seems to know the answer. How can they escape this prison and save their own lives? This double pack will cost $29.98 on DVD and $39.98 for Blu-ray.

From FUNimation we have two releases this week. The first of which is Hetalia – Axis Powers Movie: Paint it, White! This is a stand alone movie featuring the characters from Hetalia as they try to work together (and fail usually) against an alien invasion trying to turn the whole world into white shapeless blobs! The DVD will cost $24.98 and you can check out our review for it here.

Now FUNimation’s other title is hotly anticipated for many viewers and especially shōnen fans. That is of course the first part release of the English dubbed Fairy Tail. In Fairy Tail we follow the journey of Natsu and Lucy, two Fairy Tail wizards in a world full of magic and danger. Part 1 of Fairy Tail will cost $54.98 and is being released as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack and you can check out our review for it here.

Afterfall: InSanity too brutal?

According to Afterfall: InSanity’s Official Website, Amnesty International terminated its agreement with Nicolas Games because they believe the game to be too brutal. The organization claimed that the imagery expressed in the game did not go hand in hand with their ideology. This termination was administered before the end of the pre-order sales, thus affecting what company the donations would be given to.

The initial agreement between companies was that sales under 10 million pre-orders would be donated to charity (Amnesty International). If pre-order sales reached over 10 million, then sales would be split 50/50. Players would spend $1 on the pre-order and commit to paying an additional $33.90 if sales were not reached.

Since Amnesty International does not want to associate with this brutal game, players that took part in the pre-order sales will be able to choose a charity. This will be administered during the last week of the pre-orders by a poll via email.

Nicolas Games informed AI that the game was a mature title and only for people 18 years and older. Having done a preview for this title, I can admit first hand that the game is indeed brutal. However, this aspect should make any normal gamer want to discover the game further.

Check out our preview (here), and look at the game’s trailers/screenshots at afterfall-universe.com.

Take a look at the entrancing environments of Afterfall: InSanity… then run away in terror

Those looking for a new action horror title for the PC should look no further than Nicolas Games’ Afterfall: InSanity, especially after they catch a glimpse of the below trailer which was released a few days ago. The trailer itself is named “Enviro” and in it we bare witness to a world devastated by a nuclear fallout, where players must venture through a destroyed city and try to survive the horrors that exist within.

Besides the visuals, the trailer is also a treat for the ears as viewers will be able to listen to some dramatic music that was written by Portuguese composer Pedro Macedo Comacho. If you are a fan of the soundtrack then we have some good news for you as well, because regardless of whether or not Nicolas Games’ Afterfall: InSanity hits the ten million pre-order mark, anyone who does pre-order will receive the soundtrack free as a gift. You better pre-order fast however, as Afterfall: InSanity is set to be released on November 25th. Those unsure about the title can read our preview here.

Rayman 3 Hoodlum Havoc HD landing on XBLA/PSN in Spring

Despite the release of Rayman Origins last week, some people just can’t get enough Rayman in their lives. Well people who just can’t get enough of the strange guy will be happy to hear they will soon be seeing him again in HD glory, though not in a brand new title per say. Ubisoft has revealed that they will be releasing Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc on the XBLA and PSN during the Spring of 2012.

The title was originally released on the original Xbox and PS2 and this version will receive an “all-new high-definition makeover,” and is “updated to run at 60 frames per second and offers improved audio quality.” No price has been announced at this time, but players can expect it to hover around the $10/800MSP to $15/1200MSP range.

Watch Robin incapacitate guys in Batman: Arkham City DLC trailer; or do so yourself

Unlike his more popular counterpart, Robin doesn’t seem to like to get his own hands dirty with all of the blood that would come out of most guys if you punched them as hard as you seem to in Batman: Arkham City. Instead he uses his staff to deal out the pain as you can see in the below trailer which provides us our first good luck at the boy wonder.

Batman: Arkham City’s Robin DLC package is out today and with it comes Robin himself of course, two challenge maps which are called the Black Mask Hideout and Freight Train Escape as well as a Red Robin and Batman: The Animated Series skin. So who do you prefer to play as, Batman, Catwoman or now Robin?

Sonic Generations 3DS available now; launch trailer revealed

While the console versions of Sonic Generations have been available since the beginning of this month, special care has been given to the Nintendo 3DS version of the title. Now that Sega has confirmed that they are more than content with their favorite blue hedgehog in 3D, the title is available now in North America and on November 25th in PAL regions.

Those who want to catch a glimpse as to how the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Generations looks need look no further than the trailer below to catch him in action. For those more interested in the console version of the title, you may find our review for it here.

New BioWare title to be revealed at Spike’s VGA

Ruh roh. It seems that BioWare has been working on another title that doesn’t pertain to their Mass Effect or Dragon Age series of games, and this one may be a bit more upsetting for some of their die hard fans. Spike TV has released a bit of a teaser to help promote their 2011 VGA which will air on December 10th and in this teaser they reveal that there will be an unveiling for a new BioWare title.

The BioWare title is supposed to be “a new direction, a new game, from a new BioWare studio” which isn’t exactly what most people want. In the latter half of the video we see what looks like a more modern (generic) first person shooter setting where the player blows up a tank. Hopefully it will look more promising after we see the full reveal next month.

Gravity Daze given specific Japanese release date

Sony of Japan revealed when gamers in Japan can expect to pick up one of the most interesting looking PS Vita titles that I have seen so far. To be more specific, they have announced the release date for Gravity Daze, also known as Gravity Rush. That release date is February 9th and will be priced at ¥5,980 for retail and ¥4,900 as a download. The title will also require the use of a memory card to play.

Those who pick up the slightly more expensive retail version will receive a bonus comic, an illustrated booklet and a few other unlisted bonuses which will be revealed as the release date comes closer. Now while this release date is obviously out of launch range for Japan, it fits perfectly for a potential launch title for the rest of the world if they can localize the title quick enough.

Xbox Live’s new dashboard drops December 6th

Wonder when that new Xbox Live Dashboard update that we saw at E3 will be applied to your Xbox 360? Well it turns out it will be arriving on December 6th. Microsoft revealed today that the new dashboard will be downloaded through a patch on that date and 360 owners will have all of the new features you saw back at E3.

For those who don’t remember, this free update will provide a completely redesigned dashboard with gesture and voice control implementation for the Kinect as well as a Bing search for their marketplace content. This includes Cloud Storage for Game Saves, plus Live Profiles, Beacons and Facebook Sharing will also be available in the update. New entertainment content will also be appearing on December 6th so keep an eye out for a bunch of new features after the update is applied.

RAGE demo appears on XBLM, PSN on December 6th

In case you didn’t feel like picking RAGE up when it was released a few months ago now you have a chance to give it a try without even having to purchase the title. Well, you’ll be able to try a small part at least. Bethesda has released a RAGE demo on the Xbox Live Marketplace which can be obtained here, though you should make sure you have plenty of room on your hard drive as it takes up 2.03GB to install.

Players will have access to the Well mission, try out a few mini-games, explore the city of Wellsprings and even try out a few races which means you’ll get a taste of everything RAGE has to offer. Those with PlayStation 3s will need to wait until December 6th for the demo to appear on the PSN.
