Spyro’s Skylanders Universe Enters Beta

Good news for all of Spyro’s fanbase, the recent Skylanders entry to the universe, Skylanders Universe, has entered Beta. For those who don’t know, Beta is a testing phase that games undergo during devlopment to test features and debug a game. This indicates that the game may be close to release, probably within a few months to a year.

On Skylanders, the CEO of Activision Publishing had this to say –

“We conceived Skylanders as a unique, multi-platform experience from the beginning, simultaneously grand in scope yet incredibly easy for kids to embrace,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “You can play with friends in the real world or on consoles, Nintendo 3DS, Mac or PC, and now on the web in Skylanders Spyro’s Universe. If there’s a screen where kids play, we want the Skylanders to come to life there. This also further enhances the play options of every Skylander character. “

Skylanders Spyro’s Universe is set in a land with floating islands that are designed to promote creativity in it’s players by encouraging world-building, teamwork and exploration. Players are able to customise their own Skylands, partake in various fun minigames and team up with friends to explore the vastness of the Skyland. For players who own any of the figures and/or the previous game in the series, they will be able to use their codes in the new game to unlock new content and the like.

The Sims Freeplay launched today on iOS

The Sims Freeplay has officially launched, and EA Mobile sure do know how to launch a game. With a presentation from Iron Monkey studios, the developers behind the Sims iOS games, and some hands-on time with the app minutes after it was released they certainly wanted us to get a real feel for the game.

The Sims Freeplay is a game that is quite unlike any Sims release previous, on the iOS or otherwise. At first play it takes you through a lot of the new features you can come to expect from the game, and that’s a good thing. Even for me, a seasoned Sims player, I needed it because this is such a unique release.

The biggest differences are that instead of focusing on a family of Sims, your goal is to build up the town. You can have up to 16 Sims under your control, and you are in charge of growing your town’s value. The other big difference from other Sims releases is that it is done in real time.

With The Sims Freeplay there are plans to constantly update the app based on community feedback and in an effort to keep the game going for as long as possible. Considering the fact that the game itself is free, and is a very in-depth game that will take up big chunks of your day if you let it, this is a great offer for those who love the Sims, or just love some good value for money (or lack of money) apps.

The Sims Freeplay is available NOW on iPhone and iPad for FREE. Grab it HERE

Keep tuned to the site for a review of the game and more information as it comes!

Mystery Manor unveiled on the iPad

Game Insight have released their hit game Mystery Manor to the App Store, exclusively to iPad (which makes sense, since it is a hidden object game). Previously an app on Facebook, Mystery Manor has drawn in over 8 million players and they’re hoping that this success will transfer over to the iPad.

Mystery Manor is set in a mysterious mansion populated with extraordinary characters, fantastic monsters and phantoms. You have to solve some damn difficult puzzles, seek out hidden items in the huge range of rooms, and uncover hidden corners of the mansion.

The game offers regular updates with new quests, characters, items and mysteries. So if you are a fast player, don’t worry, there will be new content for you soon after you’ve finished it! And, of course, it will be for free and super easy for you to get it added to your current game.

Syberia re-released on iOS and PC

Who hasn’t played Syberia yet? As someone who knocked out the first and second, and is sad about the apparent lack of a third, I have to say that Anuman Interactive’s deal with Big Fish Games to redistribute the first Syberia on PC and iOS is something that I am quite keen on.

The original Syberia was created in 2002 and released on PC, Playstation 2, Xbox and Nintendo DS, and I have to say it was one of the more immersive and fun adventure games that I have encountered. It has a level of atmosphere that is very difficult to beat, and – of course – some pretty interesting and challenging puzzles to solve. Plus, it has also been just about long enough to forget almost everything about how the game goes so retrying it on iOS will be a totally new experience.

Anuman Interactive is looking to transfer over Syberia 1 and 2, co-editing the adaptations with Big Fish Games and working on a follow-up.

More information about the release of the adaptations will be coming in 2012.

What do you guys think? Are you keen to relive yourselves some Syberia, or to try it for the first time?

Arel Wars – iOS Defense game with a twist

Arel Wars is Gamevil’s new defense game, newly released onto the App Store. Arel Wars follows three different races which are in a bloody war with each other. Players can choose from the quick Hume, the fierce Buster or the resourceful (and always my personal favourites) Elven species. You can command over fifty heroes, unique and normal unit types into battle.

In Arel Wars you have to combine the tactical defense play with the skill growth and leveling of RPGs, creating an overall unique strategy experience. You command units to overpower the enemy base while defending your own tower in an ‘offensive-defense’ system, causing dynamic battles of invading and attacking forces. Units, towers and skills can be upgraded or combined, and strong heroes can use special magic or attack abilities.

With other 120 stages and eight different maps in total, Arel Wars is a fantastic defense strategy game that is sure to please.
