Aliens: Colonial Marines due date changed to Fall 2012

While Sega may have initially said that they were aiming for a Spring 2012 release window for Aliens: Colonial Marines, it appears that that Xenomorph is going to take just a bit longer to hatch and tear its way out of someones abdomen than we thought.

Sega revealed today in a statement that they are expecting to release the title sometime in Fall 2012 so that means that we’ll have to wait at least two more seasons before this baby tears its way through somebody. Also Sega revealed that fans can expect to see a new trailer tomorrow so tune back in tomorrow to see some Xenomorph on Marine action.

#1 Modern Warfare 3 Player’s Arrest Justified?

So what we know as of now is that Kim Dotcom – a.k.a MEGARACER on MW3 – has been arrested for several charges primarily concerning copyright infringements for his website Megaupload. These are some hefty charges considering he will need to serve 50 years in prison for his collaborated charges. Now let’s compare and contrast another sentence and find where our moralities lie.

In a completely unrelated case, Miguel Carano has murdered, raped, and disposed of Marta De Castillo. In Spain the normal sentence for murder is 20 years. I know it may seem wrong to compare legal systems amongst countries, but the fact is that their is huge morality issue. How can a murder sentence amongst other non-violent crimes be less severe? Granted Kim Dotcom may not have to serve the entire 50 year sentence as some suspect, but that mere fact of the sentencing leaves a horrible taste of injustice.

“Operation Megaupload” carried through by online activists, Anonymous, has already fought back against the United States Government by shutting down the US Justice Department website. The following comment was issued by an Anonymous operative Barret Brown:

It was in retaliation for Megaupload, as was the concurrent attack on Justice.gov.

More is coming and other members of Anonymous are pursuing a joint effort with others to “damage campaign raising abilities of remaining Democrats who support SOPA”.

Whether you agree or not that Kim Dotcom’s sentence is justified, you should first look at all of the underlying themes. Have you yourself used Megaupload? Does this make you equally guilty? Or perhaps did Megaupload just promote items more freely because they where in fact free. Morals are one thing no one shares universally. If you think this is injustice, let your voice be heard.

Wii U to undergo name change?

Back when the Wii U was about to be announced many people were wondering what the console would be named. Unfortunately however Nintendo decided that they would simply name their new console the “Wii U” which disappointed many with the poor naming choice. Also it was, nearly instantly, pointed out that this extremely similar name and logo would be confusing to average consumers.

It seems that may change however as CVG reports that undisclosed sources “close the to platform holder” have suggested that Nintendo is debating on whether or not they will change the name of the console before or at its new showing at E3 2012. The discussions are apparently occurring at the highest level of Nintendo at the moment and the biggest argument appears to be the public confusion found with the 3DS’ similar name.

So what would you name the Wii U if possible?

The bad news for THQ continues today as more layoffs at the studio have been announced. While the company would not share any details about how many people would lose their jobs, they did reveal that it has affected their administrative and publishing departments says Joystiq.

THQ did stress however that it did not affect the five internal studios THQ San Diego, Relic, Volition, Vigil and THQ Montreal. THQ’s statement on the issue went as such: “As recently announced, the company is exiting the kids’ licensed games category, and is focusing on its core game franchises and developing its digital initiatives. The company will provide greater financial detail regarding the costs and organizational benefit on its third quarter 2012 conference call scheduled for Thursday, February 2, 2012.” Hopefully this is the end of the bad news for THQ…

Failed game regulation bill forces California to pay ESA $950,000

0

One may remember that a few years ago California attempted to establish an unconstitutional regulation on videogames and their distribution and one may also remember that the bill failed horribly in court. During the Brown v. ESA case, the court voted 7-2 to drop the bill in 2005 and now it appears that the legal fees incurred thanks to that Supreme Court case is going to cost the tax payers of California quite a hefty sum.

The Entertainment Software Association is now to be paid $950,000 in legal fees which they say will then be redistributed to a new charity that will encourage job opportunities for the youth of communities. The ESA president, Michael Gallagher released this statement about the amount of money, “Senator Yee and Governor Schwarzenegger wasted more than $1 million in taxpayer funds at a time when Californians could ill afford it. However we feel strongly that some of these funds should be used to improve services for California’s youth.” In a state that is horrifically in debt already, this is another blow to the draining pockets of California citizens.

Japanese Binary Domain demo to launch February 1

While Binary Domain isn’t set to be released until the end of February, that doesn’t mean you need to wait that long to play the game. In fact, if you have a Japanese PSN account or Xbox Live account you will be able to pick up the demo for the title on February 1st.

Sega revealed this fact during their Kamurocho Radio Station podcast and was identified by Andriasang. The demo will include two different stages, a “Shinjiku Station-like area” in the upper city and one in Shibuya’s Spain-zaka area in the lower city. Currently Sega has yet to announce a Western demo though we have reached out to see if they have any plans for such a demo in the future.

Insomniac is finished with Resistance series

In a rather blunt statement, Insomniac CEO Ted Price has revealed that his company is finished with the Resistance franchise and will not be making any more titles to continue the story in any way or form. In a statement to VG247 Price said, “”We won’t be making any more Resistances.” Simple as that.

This may be a blow to fans of the series but they can at least take solace in the fact that Resistance 3 was easily the best game in the entire series and provided a great high note for the franchise to end on. As for what Insomniac will be working on now, they have a multi-platform project called Overstrike which was previously announced which will feature four player co-op shooting.
