ESRB rating reveals new characters for Street Fighter x Tekken

Whenever the ESRB rates a game it can either be disappointing or hilarious. Usually it is hilarious whenever it has to deal with any sexual aspects of a title or various insults that can be thrown around. However this time around the ESRB has actually enlightened us about a few new characters that will likely be showing up in Street Fighter x Tekken. You can read their rating below.

This is an arcade-style fighting game in which players engage in two-on-two battles with characters from the Street Fighter and Tekken universes. Players punch, kick, and use special attacks (e.g., energy blasts, fireballs, electrical strikes) to deplete opponents’ life meters. Some fighters also use laser swords, chainsaws, metal claws, or explosives to knock characters across the screen or to the ground. One bear-like character can perform a flatulence attack to strike opponents, resulting in yellow gas clouds.

A variety of female fighters wear revealing outfits that expose large amounts of jiggling cleavage; some sequences include close-up camera angles on their breasts or buttocks. The dialogue references alcohol and drunkenness (e.g., “Getting drunk isn’t really a good way to fight,” “[W]anna go for a few drinks?”), and one wobbly character uses “drunken” fighting moves. The words “sh*t” and “a*s” appear in dialogue.

In the description you may notice that there is a character who uses chainsaws as weapons as well as a character who uses “drunken” style fighting moves. No one who uses those moves has been revealed so far, however the only character who uses chainsaws is Tekken’s Alisa Basconovitch and the only drunken fighter is Lei Wulong, both of whom will likely make appearances in the game and have been revealed a tad too early for Capcom’s liking.

THQ confirms that 240 employees will be laid off

0

THQ has now confirmed that they are planning to layoff “up to 240 selling, general and administrative personnel worldwide,” over the course of the next nine months. The layoffs will begin before March 31, 2012 and will also be when the “majority” of the layoffs will take place. As it stands the layoffs will end on September 30, 2012.

This number of 240 layoffs is a much larger number than was originally being tossed around. This could be a dire piece of news for THQ as the bad news continues to pile up for the company. This includes the moving away from making games for kids and a warning from the NASDAQ that their stock will be de-listed if it does not raise above $1 in the next few months. THQ did not state in the announcement if this would affect any franchises or games they are currently working on.

Syndicate will not use an Online Pass

Before I go any further, let’s have a quick round of applause for EA as they have just revealed in a statement to Eurogamer that Syndicate will not have an online pass. This is quite surprising news as EA has even managed to stick online pass into single player games such as Kingdoms of Amalur.

In their statement EA says that the reason for not including an online pass is to encourage gamers to play it and enjoy the title. Jeff Gamon, Executive Producer said “We want as little resistance or barriers to entry as possible. The co-op is equal billing in this. We wanted everyone who owns a copy of the game to have access to the entire product.” Notice how even the company themselves acknowledge that the online pass is a ridiculous barrier of entry for gamers and not including one is in fact a selling point.

UFC Undisputed 3: This is the Moment

THQ have put out their latest trailer in anticipation of the release of UFC Undisputed 3, which is now less than 2 weeks away.

The video emphasises the split second decisions you have to make as a UFC fighter, each one crucial to your survival in the octagon and to knocking your opponent out. Which way is the fight going to go for you? You better make the right decision, it’s your move.

Don’t forget you can go download the demo now from the Xbox Live Marketplace or PlayStation Network, featuring Anderson Silva, Jon Jones, Rampage Jackson, and Wanderlei Silva.

UFC Undisputed 3 will be out on February 14th for Xbox 360 and PS3, pre-order it now for the Contender Bonus Fighters Pack including Nick Diaz and Jason “Mayhem” Miller.

New Steam DLC for Dungeon Defenders

To all of the dungeon crawlers, we have special news about the latest Steam DLC for Dungeon Defenders. Trendy Entertainment made available the Assault Mission Pack which includes three assault missions with an entirely new map for only $1.99. But that’s not all because you can also experience the new character class – Barbarian for $2.99.

The new character class allows players to dive head first into an all out melee class. Duel wielding weapons, a barbarian relies on stances rather than turrets. By understanding the stances, players will be able to waylay enemies with natural ferocity.

Barbarian Stances

  • Tornado Stance – Run faster, attack quicker, jump higher, and push back enemies with a flurry of quick, low damage attacks.
  • Lightning Stance – Use the power of lightning to stun your enemies as your attacks make contact, while taking a small amount of damage for each hit.
  • Siphon Stance – Sacrifice some of your resistances to steal life from your enemies as you damage them.
  • Turtle Stance – Enter this protective stance to greatly increase your resistances, but reduce your movement speed and jump height.
  • Hawk Stance – Summon the powers of the mighty hawk to deal a massive amount of damage in your next attack.

Barbarian abilities can be equally deadly. Once acquired both the Battle Leap Ability and Battle Pound Ability can decimate enemy ranks. If your character is a sizable distance from enemy forces, the Battle Leap will help close the gap and punish any foe that is unfortunate enough to be beneath you. While the leap ability is great for jumping into battles, Battle Pound will crush foes in the immediate radial vicinity.

Both DLCs are available now for Steam only. This week is extra special because not only are both packs available, but you can also purchase the Barbarian class for only $1.99 as a limited time offer. If you have already purchased Dungeon Defenders on a console, don’t worry because there is future content in store for you as well. Check out the Barbarian footage below, and keep tuned in for more Dungeon Defenders’ updates.

THQ Vice President of Tech Mark DeLoura no longer with company, 174 others gone

0

THQ announced a few days ago that they were planning on laying off a lot of employees from their company, however this did not include five main internal studios. Unfortunately it seems that one of the people who will be fired is the VP of tech Mark DeLoura. Joystiq found this information after an automated email response said bluntly “Mark DeLoura is no longer with THQ.”

Mark DeLoura was in charge of the upcoming Warhammer 40K MMO says Joystiq, which has already been rumored to be canceled and IGDA Mobile SIG chair Kevin Dent went further on his Twitter to say that the THQ restructuring has said that 174 employees have been let go. THQ has currently not responded to anyone about this report or made a statement regarding this issue.

Grand Slam Tennis 2 French Open Trailer

EA Sports have released a Grand Slam Tennis 2 trailer, this time turning the spotlight onto the French Open and the Kings of Clay, the next grand slam for the year.

The trailer features Rolland Garros legends such as Navrotilova, Borg and the current King of Clay, Rafael Nadal.  In Grand Slam Tennis 2 you’ll be able to relive classic rivalries or create new ones, bringing Nadal and Borg face to face or perhaps trying to take Nadal’s crown away from him with Novak Djokovic.

So if you’re a clay court junkie and you love to slide around and get your tennis whites dirty, then check out the trailer down below, and even if you don’t feel this way, check it out anyway.

Grand Slam Tennis 2 will be out on February 10th for PS3 and Xbox 360.

Kaz Hirai takes over Sony CEO position in April

While rumors have been circulating for the past few weeks, Sony had adamantly denied that Kaz Hirai would be stepping up to take over the role of Sony’s CEO in the coming months. However it seems that all that denial was simply so that they could make the announcement themselves.

Today Sony has revealed that Kaz Hirai is taking over as CEO and president of Sony in April. This means that he will replace the current CEO Howard Stringer in April 1st and become the youngest CEO in the company’s history. Do you think Kaz Hirai will be able to take Sony and make it shine even brighter?

Sentai Filmworks license Getbackers

Sentai Filmworks have today confirmed that they have acquired the license for Getbackers, the 49 episode action anime series focusing on professional ‘get backers’ who recover stolen possessions.

The series was previously handled by the now defunct ADV Films who had released the series on DVD in 2004 (a release that is no longer in print). Sentai have revealed that they plan to release the series both digitally and physically later this year.

No word on whether they will be producing a brand new dub track for the series has come to light however, leaving that up to speculation of the fans. Regardless, I am sure many fans are pleased to hear that Getbackers is back.
