Electronic Arts, Activision and Ubisoft Announce New Merger

3

Earlier today in a Press Release hand-delivered to special organisations, such as ourselves, EA, Ubisoft and Activision announced their plans to merge companies by the end of 2012. At the end of the merging process, the triad of companies, now merged into one, will release their planned games to the public. One game of notable concern seems to be a merging of each companies top selling franchise; as if this was a statement being made to gamers as a representation of the new conglomerate. We currently believe this to be some kind of “Assassins Creed: Modern Warfare of the Battlefield” type of thing.

On the merger, CEO of future Sony, Kevin Butler, had this to say –

“Us here at future Sony are pleased with this upcoming merger from the Triad of western publishers. This can only lead to quality titles in the future of gaming, which will be beneficial to gamers all over the world” Kevin Butler stated to reporters earlier this morning, “we can only see the future of gaming travelling forwards and becoming a more dynamic experience for players everywhere.”

Will this be the end of gaming? Or will this merger become the shining beacon of light that the industry seems to be lacking right now? Nobody knows. What do you think about the news of this merger, what will the affect on the ending of Mass Effect 3 be? Let us know in the comments section (below) or the Forums.

EURO 2012 DLC Justified By EA Sports

Earlier this week, EA Sports announced that the official UEFA EURO 2012 game will be released as an expansion for FIFA 12 rather than a warranting it’s own retail release. This seemingly drew some criticism from some people however EA Sports have defended their decision.

“We felt this was the best way to extend that experience and deliver fresh new content to our fans,” said Steve Frost, Communications Manager at EA.

“We expect that some fans who may not have FIFA 12 will want to play Euro 2012 and therefore purchase both, but the bigger opportunity for us is to offer our loyal and passionate FIFA fans new content.”

We also have some more details on the release, including it’s pricing at 1800 Microsoft points for Xbox 360 or £15.99 (roughly 25 AUD).

The expansion will feature over 50 national teams, all eight official stadiums, not to mention an all new game mode called “Expedition Mode” in which you will build, customise and lead your team to European glory.

The expansion will be available for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, exclusively to FIFA 12 owners. Leave us your thoughts on the decision by EA Sports down below.

Dungeon Defenders – Series EV Hero DLC

Trendy Entertainment has just released a new downloadable hero for Dungeon Defenders on Steam. The new hero class is a manifestation of metallurgy that comes to life in the defense for the Eternia Crystals. Created by a master mechanic of Sky City, Series EV has the ability to unleash powerful electronic beams that will decimate incoming threats.

Series EV may wish to become human, but her defenses far outreach any normal means of destruction. Here is the list of her capable defense structures:

  • Proton Beam: An intense beam that constantly zaps all enemies foolish enough to walk along its path.
  • Physical Beam: A simple but versatile blockade, capable of being adapted to any location.
  • Reflection Beam: This tall field of light reflects projectiles and damages any unlucky enough to be in their path.
  • Shock Beam: A laser trip wire with a delayed detonation that both stuns and damages opponents.
  • Tower Buff Beam: A beam which enhances all towers along its length and goes down only when an affected unit does.

In addition, Series EV can use two learned abilities that will provide equal devastation. The first skill is called “Holographic Decoy” and can be used to lure opponents to a target location. Upon reaching the decoy, the initial pursuer will take surmountable damage as well as surrounding foes. I can imagine this would be a devious trick set up near a ledge!

Her next ability can absorb mana in the immediate environment and store that power in her Assimilable Range Cannon. As increasing amounts of mana is stored, Series EV will be able to increase the range and duration of her Proton Charge Blast.

This newly created class DLC is only available on Steam and requires the original game to play. Additionally, there is a sale until April 5 for gamers to gain this hero for 25% off. Series EV can be yours today by clicking (here). Check out the trailer below for more information.

World of Warplanes Adding Dragons?

World of Warplanes the next game coming from wargaming.net, previously making World of Tanks has made a new announcement for the game, which is currently in alpha testing.  Midst the planes and aerial combat, they will be adding a new faction to join in the fight that will handle very differently from the planes.  What could be so different?  Dragons, obviously.

World of Warplanes has released screenshots and a video for the newest faction, including the tech tree.  They have said it will include 12 different dragons and will expand to include more than 60 creatures total.  Upgrades to dragons will include intensity of the fire breath, their color, numbers of claws and horns, total wingspan and thickness of the skin.  So, players should be able to recreate their favorite dragons of all time.

This update should make for pretty interesting gameplay, provided it’s a real update.  With April Fools Day in sight, this may just be an elaborate joke.  The question is, is this better as real or a joke?

Dick Smith MASSIVE 7 million dollar gaming and console clearance

Australian residents, time to think up some excuses to tell the boss why you will be late for work on Monday morning this week as Dick Smith have announced that the rumours surrounding their MASSIVE gaming and console sale are true and will be starting instore at 9am and online from 8am Australia wide. Some of the more exciting deals include XBox 360 250Gb Consoles for……….wait for it, $100 as well as 320gb PS3 FIFA Bundles for $199 and Nintendo DSi for $20. Additionally their are so many games on sale your bank account will be in the red for quite some time to come.

While a lot of people are saying that staff will be hoarding the good stuff for themselves, Ive worked in retail and unless some of the managers are turning a blind eye I cant see this being common practice across the stores. Dick Smith have stated via their Twitter feed that the sale is going ahead from April 2nd and have stated via their Facebook page that stocks instore and online will be strictly limited. Either way the lists that can be seen on ecogamer.com from a leaked anonymous source are very impressive to say the least with a huge range of products at dirt cheap prices. Lets hope this is not just a clever ploy to get people instore and that stores actually have at least some stock left to offer to their customers. I know I will be waiting at the door of my local store come Monday morning to check out all the items on sale and grab a bargain. Anyone who manages to get a cheap console please post a pic of it and let us know they are available, thanks.
