Chronicle Released on DVD and Blu-Ray

What would you do if you got super powers? Chronicle answers the question of just what could happen if a bunch of teenagers got super powers, and it isn’t as heroic as the rest of the genre seems to think it is.

Chronicle is now out on Blu-ray and DVD, with an extended edition available on Blu-ray along with a tonne of extras. So if you love those extras, there is a whole bunch of stuff that comes along with the triple play pack. Along with an extended version of the movie on Blu-ray and a digital version of the movie, there is also the pre-viz versions of some scenes, the ‘sizzle reel’, or the pre-production test scene that the director used to get the studio interested, and deleted scenes.

We also got to talk with Simon Hansen, the special effects supervisor on the movie that also worked on District 9. Hansen’s hand in Chronicle is pretty clear, given the awesome visual effects and the more tactile sense to them than usual. Hansen is a fan of innovation, and even made a new form of making people look like they were flying by being able to spin and rotate people. So make sure to check out all the awesome ways that the movie steers away from CGI and tries to use actual physical effects.

Pick up your copy of Chronicle now for $34.98 for the Triple Play exclusive JB Hi Fi version HERE, or $29.98 for the normal Triple Play version HERE. For the normal DVD version it is only $19.98 HERE.

New Ragnarok Odyssey screenshots released after E3 craze

With E3 2012 barely a week past, this game writer is recovering from running all over the event floor trying to make it to various appointments and make sure I saw everything possible to pass along to you our reader. Now that E3 is over however, assets for games are flooding through the gates and XSEED is no exception as they have released a number of screenshots for their upcoming Vita exclusive, Ragnarok Odyssey, which can be seen below.

Interestingly enough, the images presented here show quite an accurate representation of most of Ragnarok Online’s class system, as players will be able to choose from a number of character classes as they build their character. At the moment Ragnarok Odyssey is set to be released sometime this Summer and contributes a much needed RPG to the Vita’s game line-up.

Heroes of Ruin launch trailer confirms its actual release

Heroes of Ruin has been a very troubled title considering the fact that it has been delayed a number of times. Despite these delays however, the game is in fact still coming down the pipe and gamers in Europe can actually go pick up the game today as it has been released in Europe.

To commemorate the game’s release overseas, and also to confirm the fact that the 3DS action-RPG will be arriving in North America on July 17th, Square Enix has released the below launch trailer to demonstrate a number of the game’s features and potentially sway those who are still on the fence. Then again, the fact that another RPG is actually gracing the Nintendo 3DS makes Heroes of Ruin a must-have game for fans of the genre.

Sony and EA confirm Gamescom 2012 presence

After it was revealed that Microsoft would not be attending Gamescom this year and neither would Nintendo or Sega, it seemed that Gamescom would be missing quite a few big players when it starts later this year. However two companies chose to reveal today that they will, in fact, be in attendance.

Electronic Arts and Sony have both confirmed with Joystiq that they will be attending the show this year. Gamescom can be seen as the second biggest game event in the world, second to E3, and possibly even surpassing Tokyo Game Show in attendees and major video game announcements.

Media Blasters cancels first Blu-ray release of Bakuman

Over the past few months its been extremely evident that a certain anime company in North America named Media Blasters has begun circling the drain in more ways than one. First the company let go of a number of its licenses and now the company appears to be failing to deliver their own expected releases.

Originally slated for a release on June 26th, Robert’s Anime Corner Store has stated that the anime release of Bakuman Season 1 Part 1 on Blu-ray Disc has been permanently canceled. Now Right Stuf has also changed their status of the show to “No longer available for purchase.” Currently Media Blasters has not made a statement about this cancellation but it isn’t hard to see the writing on the wall.

Payday: The Heist Left 4 Dead Crossover Revealed

You might have heard that Overkill Software was working with Valve on some sort of collaboration. Well now Overkill has revealed that that collaboration is in fact a prequel (of sorts) to Valve’s zombie shooter Left 4 Dead.

A trailer for the upcoming DLC Payday: The Heist – No Mercy has emerged and shows off the Payday crew infiltrating Mercy Hospital from Left 4 Dead.  The very first level of Left 4 Dead takes place in Mercy Hospital.

Not a lot of details on Payday: The Heist – No Mercy have revealed yet. Though the video’s description teases, “Have you ever wondered how the Left 4 Dead series began? It started with a heist.”

Well we’re defiantly intrigued. Stay tuned for more news on this crossover as it comes.

Neversoft drafted into Call of Duty development

Neversoft has developed some of Activision’s bigger franchises, or at least once big franchises, such as Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero (though both are more or less dead at this point) and it seems that now the company will be working on Activision’s biggest money maker, Call of Duty.

Neversoft’s website, which can be seen here, now shows a number of the companies employees working on developing a Call of Duty game of some kind. This means that Neversoft has now joined the ranks of Call of Duty developers alongside Infinity Ward, Treyarch, Raven Software, and Sledehammer Games. Could this be a Call of Duty skateboarding music game?

Transformers Prime coming to the Wii U according to Activision’s website

So a few weeks ago Activision revealed that they would be bringing Transformers Prime (the kids TV show) to a number of Nintendo’s platforms, such as the Nintendo 3DS, DS and the Wii. Now at the time, Activision never went into further detail about the game, but it seems that their official website decided to leak out a new announcement.

Those who take a close look at Transformers Prime’s Activision website will notice that the game is also listed for release on the Wii U despite the fact that Activision hasn’t stated anything about such a port. We’ve reached out to Activision to see if they have anything to say about this leaked information.

It will be great to finally get to play these games as I was late to the PlayStation 2 party and missed out on these great games. Will you be picking up the Trilogy when it is released in your area?
