The Amazing Spider Man E3 2012 Preview

We’ve all probably played a Spider Man game before, whether they were created as movie-adaptations or not. However this may be the first time ever that the development team behind the game worked so closely with the producers of the movie to try and make sure that everything flows perfectly and is created just as one would see in the movie itself. In the behind-closed-doors presentation for The Amazing Spider Man we learned that the game itself will actually take place after the events of the movie.

This has allowed the creators to not only have more creative freedom with the storyline, but also to re-imagine a number of enemy origin stories. You see, rather than put an end to their genetic research, Oscorp has continued to do so. As such this has created a number of human-animal hybrids which have begun rampaging around the city. By working closely with Marvel & Sony the developers revealed that everything shown in the game is actually going to be accepted as canon, though how exactly was not explained.

Players will be stepping into the suit of Spider Man in a brand new way, as the camera angle will actually follow very closely on Spider Man so that it actually makes the player feel as if they were him. This close camera angle is quite amazing in motion, especially whenever the player is swinging around Manhattan due to the fact that it will often feel like a roller coaster with the rise and fall of the camera angle. It is great that swinging around on webs is as fun as ever, considering the development team has made The Amazing Spider Man open world once again, allowing players to explore all of Manhattan and do various side-missions and gather collectibles (comic book pages which unlock full digital classic comic books) as well.

A number of Spider Mans abilities have been modified to adjust to his new background in The Amazing Spider Man. For example, rather than having an infinite amount of webbing he can produce from his body, Spider Man will actually have to reload his webbing canisters (though these are infinite as well thanks to product testing). What makes this mechanic interesting is the fact that Spider Man will occasionally slip his hand to his belt to reload when necessary, which is something never before shown in a Spider Man game. Also added into the game is an auto-catch system so that players won’t need to worry about dying from a long-distance fall.

Besides these small adjustments, the combat system and navigation system have been majorly overhauled. Rather than creating large web hammers etc, Spider Man will be fighting with flips, kicks, punches and more. The new fighting style is actually stylized after the Lucha Libre style of wrestling, focusing more on acrobatic attacks than anything else. The adjustment to navigation is the newly crated Web Rush system which places the camera into a first-person view behind Spider Man’s mask as he seeks out highlighted areas that he can leap or swing to. This allows players to navigate around the city with the same type of acrobatics that was previously only performable during cut-scenes or quick time events.

During the presentation we were shown that Web Rush is also context specific, as players can immediately start side-missions by jumping to a mission start point, or swing between light poles before jumping onto a speeding getaway car and taking it out. Also shown in this presentation was the new way most of the animal-human hybrids will appear. While Rhino previously wore an armored suit in Spider Man lore, he will actually now be a human/rhino hybrid with armor growing out of his body and horns on top of his head. After witnessing an interesting, albeit repetitive battle against Rhino we were introduced to “Hunters” which have been sent out from Oscorp to try and wrangle up or kill all of the hybrids roaming the city, including Spider Man. To fight off the Hunter Spider Man started to battle against it while in the air, swinging between buildings in some rather impressive mid-air combat. Now we’ve all seen movie tie-ins or adaptations before, but this one may just be one that will go in the must play category depending how the rest of the game turns out on June 26th when it hits store shelves.

Microsoft Kills Another Conference

Are you a software developer? If you are, then you may have been subject to what I can only describe as the biggest waste of time anybody has ever been subjected to. If you were a developer in Oslo last week for the Norwegian Developers Conference, you will know that I am referring to you and your kind.

At this conference, Microsoft was to showcase some advances in their cloud computing architecture to developers, probably in the hopes of getting them involved and to get them to build their software around. Now normally, I don’t think developers would have been subject to the kind of presentation they received. For the record, I quite enjoyed what was displayed, not that I was there, but I don’t think it was relevant to anything.

I can imagine a room full of software developers sitting around, waiting for some introductory speeches and some technical specifications, only to have the stage light up before their faces and having women in various states of undress come out to the stage and start dancing to what is easily the most catchy and horrible auto-tuned song in the industry.

This is probably just as bad as when Microsoft did their E3 conference and had Usher pimping out his new single in every sentence. Seriously. Which do you think was worse, or better: Microsofts E3 performance, or Microsofts NDC conference? Let us know in the comment section below.

Coding is our drugs in the embedded video below. Thanks to news.com.au for the tip.

The Booth Babes Of E3 2012

The Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3 for short is a place where the world’s best video game companies gather each year to show off their latest soon to be released video game titles to the world.  Everyone tries their utmost best to one up each other with who has the best games.  But games are not the only thing that some of the Companies like to show off!  This year a number of companies also used models to give their games that extra push to get people to try out their titles at the show.  Of course if the game is good it should sell itself, but then again when you have a beautiful woman or many women dressed up as a video game character, it puts that extra bit of love into the game.  Take for example the lovely Jessica Nigri who this year dressed up in her world famous Lollipop Chainsaw outfit, not only did the crowds flock to take a photo with her(myself included), but they also tried out the game too, which I must say is quite as entertaining as taking a photo with Jessica!

For your viewing pleasure we have organized and collected all of this year’s E3 2012 Booth Babes.  You can check them out below in the gallery or jump on over and check them out in our Facebook E3 2012 Booth Babes gallery (click here to view the gallery in Facebook)  Let us know who you think was the best dressed booth babe this year and what company you believe had the best booth babes at their booth!

Dead Space 3 Interview with Shereif Fattouh

Dead Space 3 made quite an impact at this year’s E3 2012.  We caught up with Shereif Fattouh, producer of Dead Space 3 and asked him some questions about the game and what fans of the series can expect in the third instalment.  Having had a sneak peak at the game (you can check out our game play impressions article here) We were eager to ask Shereif as much as we could about Dead Space 3 as possible.  We run through the new co-op feature, the new cover system, weapons and of course some of the enemies you can expect to see in the game, and let me tell you there are some amazingly original creatures that will be doing their utmost best to rip your head off and claim your body as their own!

As always the feeling of being terrified and also excited to down down these new enemies is something that Viceral Games have successfully achieve from the gameplay trailer we watched at E3.

Now without further ado, click play on the video below and enjoy the interview.

Double Dragon Neon E3 2012 Interview and Gameplay

Due out this summer, Majesco and WayForward’s Double Dragon Neon is looking to revitalize the franchise with all of that classic flare and some brand new mechanics. Our very own MasterAbbott caught up with Majesco Project Manager Pete Rosky at E3, who was ready to show off some more gameplay from an early build of the game.

This version had four stages to choose from, and the one within is the first from the game. MasterAbbott is a HUGE fan of the original franchise, so a lot of hard-hitting questions were asked to Rosky. Double Dragon Neon will be a classic beat-em-up and star Billy and Jimmy as they aim to save Marian, who has been punched in the gut and kidnapped yet again. Among the new features shown off in the demo, we got a good look at the new abilities and techniques that Billy and Jimmy can use, which can be upgraded by collecting cash. These include projectiles, as well as several other locked power-ups that will come into play as players progress throughout the game. Cassettes have a role in which power-up is unlocked, and the dough you find throughout is then used as a currency system to pay for more power for each move.

Combos were also shown off, and MasterAbbott was quick to ask about what returning Double Dragon fans can expect to see with all of the new maneuvers in the game. You can check out the full video below to get your fix for now, and look for Double Dragon Neon as it hits the PSN and XBLA this summer at an unannounced date. Do keep in mind as well that this is indeed an early version of the game, and this title is still under development as we speak.

Street Fighter x Tekken on iOS?

Are you ready to cross the line….on your iOS Device?

Something curious appeared at the Capcom booth during E3 this year: Street Fighter x Tekken on both iPhone & iPad. Reports say that while Capcom have no current plans on bringing the hit fighter to mobile and tablet devices, they were curious to see how fans would react to it at E3. A demo for the game was available at the Capcom booth with 4 playable fighters: Ryu, Kazuya, Chun-Li and Nina. Apparently it plays very similar to other Capcom fighters and retains to the visual style of the original title with a few visual downgrades.

With the success of Street Fighter IV: Volt, Street Fighter II and Marvel vs Capcom 2 on iOS devices, it’s not hard to see them bringing Street Fighter x Tekken to mobiles soon. That being said, Capcom still isn’t sure if they even want to release it. I guess all we can do is hope!

Make sure you check out the gameplay video below of the rough demo!

Call of Duty: Black Ops II E3 2012 Strike Force Preview

While everyone was awed during the presentation for Call of Duty: Black Ops II at Microsoft’s Pre-E3 conference, there was much more to be seen behind closed doors at Activision’s booth. At first we were simply shown the same level of the game which was demonstrated at the Microsoft press conference, involving Row Menendez’s assault on the city using the United States’ own robotic weaponry and drones. We were told that this level would occur two-thirds of the way through the title, so it is obvious that there will be quite a bit of build-up to these fast paced scenes. Now for the most part this playthrough went nearly the exact same, however a few extra pieces of information were shown.

During the place where the player had to start sniping enemies to provide covering fire for the female president, I caught a glimpse of a rappel option as well, meaning players may be able to make a few small choices during missions, slightly altering the path which they were able to take. Now this sniper rifle was shown firing slowly during the presentation, however for us the demoer was able to use the sniper rifle in a semi-automatic fashion, blasting through walls and dealing out death to any enemies in the vicinity. Now where the demo during the Microsoft presentation skipped ahead, our demo didn’t.

We followed the player as they entered into an armored vehicle and began following the caravan with the president, that is until he was t-boned by a semi-truck driven by the enemy. To make matters worse, the enemies brought along hacked CLAWs, which are small, four-legged drones with armored exteriors who need either explosions or charged sniper fire to damage. After taking out these drones with a combination of rocket launchers and sniper fire, he reached the area where the demo picked back up, with the control of the quadrocopter drones which are guided by the Data Glove to fire on targets taking cover.

The playthrough consisted of the same footage shown during the conference, including the player jumping into the jet and providing covering fire for the president’s caravan. However rather than ending in the middle of aerial combat, we found ourselves seeing some minor dogfighting as the player flew after the enemy drones and shot them down with chain guns and Sky Buster Missiles which were basically homing missiles. The single player demo ended after the player ejected out of his plane to crash it into the final enemy drone in a spectacular explosion.

After this relatively samey presentation, we were shown a brand new feature which would be the first of its kind in the Call of Duty franchise, Strike Force missions. These Strike Force missions occur outside of the main story arc but being successful in these missions can provide various bonuses which may make the game easier in the future. Interestingly enough, rather than allowing players to constantly retry the missions upon death, failure is quite permanent. Though these levels can be replayed to try and gain a better score or faster completion time, the final result will always be saved after the first completion, meaning that a failure can only be rectified by a complete re-playthrough.

Now the Strike Force mission we were shown was called Overwatch and consisted mostly of capturing various locations on the map with the player’s forces. Interestingly enough, rather than simply playing one soldier in a squad, gamers will actually be in charge of commanding the entire battlefield, including various squads of soldiers, ground-drones, aerial drones and more. This means that players can simply jump into a soldier, take the battle to enemy soldiers and try to micromanage that team. Players can even jump into various machinery such as their own CLAW or other drone to try and swing the battle in their favor.

Players in this mode can pull out of the battlefield and see where all of their team and the enemy computer team is located on the field, allowing for complete battlefield command, including the ability to set waypoints down for machinery and soldiers to travel to. This overhead mode also displays the health of various members of your force, allowing players to micromanage units in danger and provide back-up.

Now not much was said about what other types of stages players will be able to experience in Strike Force. However it was said that players will unlock these missions as they make their way through the single-player experience. We tried inquiring about a possible co-operative Strike Force inclusion, but the team would not say anything more at the time of presentation. This mode seemed to provide a breath of fresh air by providing some new gameplay elements we have never seen from the franchise so far. So what do you think about this RTS-like inclusion to Black Ops II?

Justice League Movie In The Works

It appears assembling Marvel’s The Avengers for a film has inspired DC Comics and Warner Bros to do the same!

According to Variety, Warner Bros has already hired Will Beall (Gangster Squad) to pen down a screenplay for a Justice League film. There’s also a strong possibility that the movie could tie into others much like The Avengers. This isn’t hard to imagine considering the DC Comic films we’ve seen recently such as Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008) and Green Lantern (2011), as well as The Dark Knight Rises (2012) coming next month and Man of Steel (2013) coming out next year.

But that’s not all! Green Lantern scribe, Michael Goldenberg has just been signed on to write a script for a Wonder Woman movie. Also, s script is being written for The Flash, which will be directed by Greg Berlanti.

Variety also reports that DC franchises Aquaman, Green Arrow, Lobo, the Suicide Squad, and Shazam are all in various stages of development as up coming Warner Bros films.

However, it is a possibility these films will not be linked to a Justice League film, and it could just be a stand alone title. I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see.
