Hawken Devs Unveil Transmedia Marketing Strategy

The developers and publishers behind the upcoming Mech shooter Hawken have revealed their plans for a transmedia form of marketing in relation to the franchise. As a part of this approach, they have enlisted the aid of comic book artists and directors to get a digital series and original graphic novel off the ground.

The strategy is to create a massive backstory and lore for the game to build a context for the players to relate to. For a better understanding of this, I have quoted a portion of the press release below –

Meteor Entertainment is successfully implementing a transmedia approach for HAWKEN.  The goal is to make a killer game with a back-story that can be told across multiple mediums.  Each segment of the transmedia approach: the game, web shorts, digital series, original graphic novel, and feature film all tell a story about HAWKEN in a specific time.  Each piece is so well told that it could stand-alone but they all work perfectly together.  This can only be done thanks to some very talented folks who have brought together the vision of HAWKEN.

Razer Ouroboros Officially Announced

The Razer Ouroboros is a mouse that allows users to fully customise the look and feel of the device to match their own unique playing styles. The wireless mouse is the latest in the line of mouses from Razer and as such, carries their high quality design and precision movements.

The Razer Ouroboros is fully customisable in that gamers will be able to change the mouses length, width and even butt-lift. This allows for each gamers unique hand and method of holding the mouse. For instance, some people lay their hands on the mouse, whilst others prefer to claw their mouse. The Ouroboros accounts for both methods and is therefore a more comfortable mouse.

It is also a wireless mouse, meaning that players wont have to worry about cords and cables clogging up their desk space. With wireless technology, it’s always a worry that the device will run out of power in the middle of use. Fortunately, the mouse boasts 12 hours of continuous use before needing to be docked and recharged.

On the mouse, Razer had this to say –

“Designed for excellence and total ownage, the Razer Ouroboros was intended to be wielded by all serious gamers looking to win any FPS, RTS or RPG with custom-made dominance,” said Robert “RazerGuy” Krakoff, president of Razer USA. “We are proud to introduce it as Razer’s first gaming mouse that features optimized, customizable, ambidextrous ergonomics that better fit the curvature of any and every hand size and personal grip style by delivering ultimate comfort, control, power and built-in intelligence to ascend to gaming immortality.”

The Ouroboros is an ambidextrous mouse, meaning that it can be comfortably controlled with both the left and the right hand. This is important for many gamers who have had to adapt to mouses that have not been designed with them in mind.

You’ll be able to get the Ouroboros for $129.99 USD in Quarter 4 this year. Be sure to check out the official website for more info.

Get an Umbrella umbrella if you pre-order Resident Evil 6 from Capcom

We heard you like Umbrella so we put an Umbrella logo on an umbrella with a game involving Umbrella. Or at least that is what Capcom must have been thinking when they thought up this… unique pre-order bonus for Resident evil 6.

If you happen to pre-order the title from their online store, found here, you will receive the Umbrella branded umbrella seen to the right. It is worth noting that you can also buy the Umbrella umbrella separately for $17, though they have already been backordered so your only chance at getting an Umbrella umbrella may just be to pre-order the game instead.

Nexon Europe Revealing 2 New Games at Gamescom

Yep, this Gamescom news is still churning out as publishers everywhere set their sights on Germany. Nexon Europe are the latest to reveal details about their showing, which will take place August 15th-19th. Nexon will be located inside the business centre, hall 4.1, as well as inside the consumer centre, hall 8, and will be bringing their free to play RTS Shadow Company as well as a currently unannounced offering.

Here are the details you should know about both:

Shadow Company

An exciting new online free-to-play FPS by the creators of Combat Arms – one of the most successful Free-to-Play FPS games ever. Shadow Company will be published in North America by Nexon America and in Europe by Nexon Europe in early 2013.

Shadow Company utilizes the impressive Unreal Engine 3 to produce cutting edge graphics and fast, fluid gameplay, making it stand out from all other Free-to-Play FPS titles. It contains highly intense multiplayer gameplay and Nexon Europe will be demonstrating this with various 16-player competitions on their main stage in the consumer hall, including the unique Blackmoney  multiplayer mode (4 vs 4 vs 4 vs 4).

 The Un-announced Title

The latest title from Nexon Europe will be revealed first at Gamescom this year. It will be a Naval RTS, produced by highly experienced and skilled developers. Keep watching Nexon’s announcements for more information.

“Gamescom provides us with a great opportunity to reach out to both European press and community,” said Sungjin Kim, Nexon’s CEO. “With Free-to-Play gaming becoming more and more popular all over Europe, we appreciate this great opportunity to let Gamescom visitors play our newest games for the first time. The two new titles that we are bringing to Nexon Europe’s extensive portfolio of games really show the direction we are heading – taking Free-to-Play gaming to the next level.”

A Naval RTS sounds rather interesting at the moment, and it will be nice to hear more information on Shadow Company, so fans of the famed FTP pioneer will be wanting to visit Nexon’s booth next month.
