For those of you who have kept up with Valve news you might remember that they announced they will be releaseing some games on the Linux platform. Well this will come as a no shocker to all of you as it looks like Valve’s hit game Left 4 Dead 2 will be one of them and so far the Linux version of the game is performing the Direct X Windows version.
Even now, during development, the Valve team has L4D2 running at 315 frames per second on the Linux test platform, as compared to the standard Windows speed of 270.6 FPS. For those of you who like it in a more understandable way, the game is running about 15% faster on Linux than Windows. Keep in mind though that these are just tests since the game is still in development for the operating system but it does show some promise. If all goes well maybe we can expect to see more releases on the operating system in the future.

If Uprising44 – the WWII game focusing on the Warsaw Uprising – has peaked your interest with it’s third person and RTS gameplay mixture and fresh story, take note: the website for the game has just gone live at uprising44.com. An independent game developed by small Polish studio DMD Enterprises, the plot will base itself around the titular uprising which was the largest civilian revolt against occupying Nazi forces in the entire war.
The website will carry all the latest news about the game and should fill out as the late August release date approaches. The game is due to release on PC, iOS and Mac. A console version was slated to hit the Xbox 360 at some point, but has yet to be confirmed – keep your eyes on the website for the news as it happens.
Sony Computer Entertainment have announced the release date for LittleBigPlanet Vita. LBP Vita will be released on the 25th of September in North America. Those in Europe and Japan will both receive the game earlier than their North American counterparts. In Europe and PAL territories, the game will be released on the 19th of September. In Japan, the game will be released a day later on the 20th of September. Sony has also released a video detailing the development of the world of Carnivalia, where LittleBigPlanet Vita is set in.
For those who do pre-order the game, the player will receive one of two bonus DLC costume packs. One is based on the game Bioshock and includes a Big Daddy and Little Sister costume. The second pack is the Knights of the Old pack. This will feature four costumes based on Medieval fairytales (one of the costumes is in fact a dragon).
There have been a few stirrings from the odd world of Oddworld lately.
With several projects in the works, there’s a lot of fan interest building, but details are scarce for now. Via their Facebook page, Oddworld Inhabitants have responded to the constant fan-nagging. Kinda.
It’s not really news yet, but they’ve announced when to expect announcements.
Details for the HD version of Munch’s Oddysee will be revealed during Gamescom, running August 15-19. So far, it’s only expected on Playstation 3 and Vita, but there’s hope that it might make its way to the PC. But PC players are still waiting on their version of Stranger’s Wrath HD, which is now about six months late. An unpromising silence from the Inhabitants in that time gives little hope for either HD port to make it to PC.
The other project is a full HD remake of the game that started it all: Abe’s Oddysee. It’s not the standard remake practise of slapping HD textures onto the pointy polygons of yesteryear: the 1997 classic is being rebuilt from the ground up, in a new engine.
More details on the project are to be revealed at the end of September. OI have specified that we’ll find out which platforms the game will appear on, although at this point, it’s likely another PSN-exclusive. The HD versions of both Munch’s Oddysee and Stranger’s Wrath are limited to PS3 and Vita, leaving PC players to settle for bug-addled ports of the original games. As for Xbox 360 – Forgeddabowtit! Microsoft are refusing to publish it or let them self-publish, forcing them to shop around for a third-party publisher. Yeah, don’t hold your breath on that one.
Hopefully, we’ll see a release window announced then as well.
Lastly, the Abe’s Oddysee remake, casually refered to as “Abe HD”, is in need of an official title. OI are looking to avoid the obvious choice, “Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee HD”, and are reaching out to fans for suggestions. Head to their website and submit your idea before August 10, and you could get your name in the credits and a signed poster, if your title is chosen.
Capcom released more information today about its upcoming game Resident Evil 6. Resident Evil 6 will feature “Agent Hunter Mode”. This mode will allow players to experience the game from the other side, playing as one of the games Zombies, J’varo or C-virus mutations. Players will posses the attacks and abilities of the specific enemy that they control, and will even have access to the J’varo’s transformations.
The official Capcom press release stated that the mode will work like this:
Complete the main campaigns for either Leon, Chris or Jake to then unlock the Agent Hunt stages for each of those respective campaigns
When creating an RE6 gameplay session a player has the option to allow/not allow Agent Hunt
When a hunter searches for a session to join they will see whether or not other players from around the world want to allow hunters into their game
The hunter then picks another player’s session to join and jumps into that session -Please note only certain stages will be available for Agent Hunt sessions
The agent side can be either a single human player with an AI partner, or two human players in co‐op mode. Up to two separate hunters can join an Agent Hunt session. When a hunter dies they respawn in the same session as a different random enemy from that area
If the hunter eliminates the agent then they will be taken to a ‘hunt successful’ results screen where they can join another session if they wish
If the agent is eliminated then their game session will end exactly as if they had been playing a standard game session with CPU enemies
If the hunter quits the session then the agent’s game continues as normal with all AI enemies
Agent Hunter Mode functions in a similar way to Dark Souls, which allowed players to choose whether or not they wanted to allow other players to enter their own game sessions. Once the player had entered they could either help the player or engage in PVP. It will be interesting to see how the mode functions, as the enemies in the Resident Evil series often provide little challenge for the human player when not in large numbers, so there could be the potential for players playing as the “zombies” to constantly die which could be quite frustrating. Most likely though, Capcom has figured out some way to balance it without changing the difficulty or feel of the game.
Resident Evil 6 is currently set to be released on October 16th, be sure to stay tuned in for more information as it gets closer to its release date.
Well it looks like Konami is at it again. Kohei Uchimara who works for Konami Sports & Life Co. has just won the gold medal for the men’s individual all-around gymnastics at the London 2012 Olympics.
For those of you who do not know, Konami Sports & Life Co. is a subsidiary of Konami that aims at “providing you an enjoyable and valuable time within your daily life through health and fitness,” according to message from the program’s representative director.
A post on the official site for Konami reads,
“Kohei Uchimura has won the gold medal in men’s individual all-around gymnastics at the London Olympic Games. Konami Sports & Life Co., Ltd. would like to congratulate Uchimura on this great accomplishment, and extend appreciation to his many supporters and fans. A total of 3 Konami employees were privileged with the honor of representing Japan in gymnastics for this year’s London Olympics. These athletes from the KONAMI Gymnastics Team were Koji Yamamuro, Yusuke Tanaka, and the aforementioned Kohei Uchimura. A great thanks to all fans of these gymnasts for your undying support. Konami will, as a JOC Partner, continue to aid in the further development and popularization of sports.”
As you can probably assume, this has brought great honor for Uchimara and he will likely be greeted greatly when he returns home to Japan.
Some bad news has come out of Crytek today, they have announced that their upcoming release Crysis 3 will not be coming to the wiiU. It was officially announced by Crytek’s general manager Nick Button-Brown via his twitter account. The official post reads,
“Just to answer the speculation, we are not currently working on a wiiU version of #Crysis3”
This sad news comes only one week after Crysis 3 producer Mike Read stated that, “Crytek was working with Nintendo” and that a wiiU version of Crysis 3 is a “possibility.” From the sounds of it there may be a released version of the title on Nintendo’s next generation console post launch but until anything is announced we will just have to wait and keep our fingers crossed. No matter what happens, we can expect to see a game from Crytek on the wiiU but we will have to wait and see what the actual product will be.
Crysis 3 releases on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC sometime in February 2013.

Grab your guns and get ready. It has been announced that the hit December released title, Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies will be expanding to all mobile platforms starting today. Now you might notice that it has not hit the market for those of you who own Android devices other than the Xperia Play, this is because they have announce a thirty day timed exclusive for the title on the Xperia Play. Also keep in mind that the game when it is released on the other devices will only playable if you are running on Android version 2.3.3 and up.
Back Ops Zombies will be priced at only $6.99 and it hasn’t been said if the game includes all the recent updates since the games original release on iOS but it’s highly likely that it will include them. It’s also been said that the game itself on the Xperia Play will allow you to use joysticks and the buttons instead of using the touch screen, but that has not been confirmed so you will have to go and try it for yourself.
