Crysis 3 Multiplayer Detailed

We have gotten a lot of new details about Crysis 3 from Gamescom, many of them being about the multiplayer.

It was revealed yesterday that Crysis 3 would be getting a new multiplayer mode called Hunter Mode which puts two players in the Nano-suits and turns them into hunters and then matches them up against six to eighteen CELL Operatives that have crashed in the middle of the now literal jungle that is New York. The two Hunter players have to stalk and kill the others with the new Compound Bow weapon, hiding in the jungle as the CELL players try to stick together and look over their shoulders for their invisible pursuers. Every time a CELL player falls, they also become a Hunter, until they’ve all been tracked down. If even one CELL player survives, that team wins.

They have also amped up the play style by adding the ability for players to take control of the environment by taking doors off of cars and using them as riot shields or picking up metal posts out of the ground to use as a club. This will allow for people to get creative with how they play to survive.

The modes that will be returning from Crysis 2 include straightforward deathmatches/team deathmatches and Crysis’ own take on Capture the Flag, called Crash Site.In Crash Site, Ceph pods land at random points on the map, and your team has to claim them for as long as possible before they explode and the next one arrives somewhere else. It’s a very fast-paced, violent mode that shows the nanosuit off at its full capabilities.Crash Site is one of the modes that has been revamped though, they have now granted you the ability to actually drive the Ceph mechs that are know as Pringers and unleash bullets onto your opposing team.

The Nano-suits have been re-designed also. They now separate energy bars for sprinting, camouflage, armour boosting and other nanosuit superpowers, these will grant you the abilities to sprint across the map or power jump from ledge to ledge without having to worry about entering battle with no energy left when you enter battle.

Crysis 3 will ship with a total of twelve maps and eight game modes when it launches in February 2013. The game will support sixteen players in the PC version of the game and only twelve on consoles. Crytek has also insured that they will keep the game servers in peek conditions to maintain a good stable connections for the players of the game.

Brand-New Cognition Trailer Released

For the fans of point and click adventure titles, you may now get excited! Phoenix Online Studios and Reverb Publishing released a new trailer for their upcoming point and click mystery title, Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller.

This trailer gives you an overview for the gameplay that players will be using in Cognition. The story will be very deep and chilling as you unravel twists and turns in order to find your brother’s killer and it goes with the tone the game sets with its cel-shaded in-game art and artistic, bone chilling cutscenes.

The official plot for the game reads:

Cognition is a thought-provoking mystery following Erica Reed, a Boston-based FBI agent, haunted by the unsolved case of a serial killer who took her brother’s life. Taking a turn for the strange, Erica investigates with the ability of post-cognition, sensing an object’s past with a mere touch. What unfolds is a much greater, much more complex and enigmatic mystery, as it becomes clear that someone knows her secret.

For those of you who will be in the Seattle area for PAX PRIME from August 31 to September 2, you will be able to head on over to Reverb Publishing’s booth #3340 to get some hands-on time with the demo for the unique mystery.

Cognition will be released sometime this fall 2012. Check out the trailer embedded below for more info.

The latest game in the series will be built on the powerful Frostbite 2 engine for its intensive graphical prowess and realistic destruction. It also looks like the game will be some kind of free to play title, which may disconcert some fans.

In the trailer we see two factions fighting it out over what initially looks like a Battlefield 3 map. We also see a wide variety of vehicles and a few infantry units engaged in actual combat. All of the footage found within the trailer is of actual gameplay footage.

Super Action Hero Review

Super Action Hero
Developer: Com2uS
Publisher: Com2uS
Platforms: iPhone (reviewed), iTouch and iPad
Release Date: 16 August, 2012
Price: TBA

Overview

A lot of games revolve around playing as the hero of the story, some even cast you as a super hero, and isn’t that a big part of why games are so fun? You get to go around beating up bad guys, saving the day, and being all cool and whatnot at the same time. Super Action Hero brings this to the iOS with a stick figure twist. So does this crime fighting app measure up?

Gameplay

The controls are pretty simple and easy to pick up, there’s a d-pad in the left bottom corner and an action button in the right bottom corner. A combination of directions from the d-pad with the action button makes different combos from powerful uppercuts to being able to pick up your enemy and throw him at others. There is a tutorial that takes you through all these moves, but they’re all fairly organic and chances are you’ll figure them out (or get them by accident) without trying too hard. A lot of these moves are flashy and some are often used accidentally so at first your little stick figure might seem a little out of control, especially given how fast the guy moves.

You’re given a bunch of health, which should last you plenty as you take on the different bad guys. It’s not the bad guys that I found giving me the most amount of trouble, it was the environments. As the game progresses you start to find yourself in more and more threatening situations (like having to escape a slow moving explosion by continuously hopping up platforms, God forbid you misjudge it and fall). And in these situations you also have to defeat the evil minions. Some achievements even have the aim of getting through a level without fighting at all, which is doable. The game makes a bit of a shift from arcade fighter style to platformer for some of the levels, which will either aggravate or entertain you. It certainly doesn’t get dull and – even if you’re raging – you won’t want to put it down.

There’s a huge amount of customization that you can give your character as you go along in the game, conquering levels and finding new swag such as masks or weapons to don. You earn points, which you can spend on upgrades to your skills, so there’s a bit of an RPG element mixed in there too.

One big issue for the game was bugs. A few times the game crashed when I tried to go in to customize a mask I wanted to wear. Then the game would refuse to start, saying that the save I was trying to load was from a different device and I needed to go back to my original device. This happened a few times but was fixed by restarting the app, until it just became a consistent problem that I couldn’t fix no matter what I tried short of re-installing it. I seemed to have stumble across a game-breaking bug and I’m not sure exactly what happened because it was working one moment and gone the next.

It also doesn’t want to run unless you exit your other applications first, because it needs the processing power. That I am not surprised by, it’s a good-looking app and responds well (when it chooses to run), but the fact that it demands complete attention may be something that turns you off it a bit. Once these issues are resolved it will be a far stronger game, and much more enjoyable when you don’t have to pray that it will recognize that it is actually the same phone.

Visuals

The graphics are really great, not only are they high quality but they’re also superbly stylized and the whole thing feels like a cross between a comic book and someone’s skilled doodlings. It really is a joy to look at and it reaches back into that imagination that everyone had as a kid and brings it to the surface. The moves are sort of over the top in the awesome way that makes it more fun and that you don’t tire of seeing.

Audio

Every super hero needs a kick ass theme song and the soundtrack behind Super Action Hero works really well with the game, instead of against it as some can do. The audio adds to the experience and isn’t something that will have you reaching for the mute button.

Overall

Super Action Hero is definitely an app that will keep you invested for a while. Not only is the gameplay fun and addictive, as well as the levels being interesting and different enough to keep you invested, but it’s just a fun game. There are definite flaws, and having such an awesome app have a game-breaking bug is something that really needs to be examined hard and fixed in an update, because otherwise you’ll find yourself wanting to play this fun, addictive game, but unable to because it’s decided to give up on life.

New Assassin’s Creed III Liberation Trailer

The Vita is in need of some A grade arse kicking games, and given that Uncharted is already out of the way, Assassin’s Creed is just about the best thing that could yet appear on Sony’s handheld. Liberation is a stand alone game from the simultaneously releasing Assassins’s Creed III, and stars a female protagonist in her own separate adventure.

A new trailer has just been released that shows off some of the features of the Vita game, including how the touch screen will be built in to gameplay. It looks like players will be using the back screen to navigate certain modes of transport, and more enticingly, ‘touch to kill’ using the front screen. Make sure and check out the full trailer below and watch out for some croc riding action.

(I’m assuming it’s actually minor croc riding in the course of croc killing, but we can dream)

Assassin’s Creed III Liberation will release alongside it’s consular big brother on October 31, 2012.

New Tomb Raider screenshots slip out of Gamescom

With Gamescom currently happening in Germany, plenty of pieces of media have been coming out of the event and now it is Square Enix’s turn to release a handful of screenshots of their upcoming Tomb Raider reboot.

The screenshots themselves can be seen below, however it is worth noting that nothing new has actually been shown off in these images as they all appear to be similar to what was shown off during their E3 presentation, though a few of them have been cropped together for an impressive vertical image. For those curious about our impressions of the gameplay shown off at E3, you can find it here.
