Another Fairy Tale Gone Dark in Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters

These days we seem to be getting a bevy of ‘reimaginings’ of old fairy tales. They try to be darker than the originals (though if you’ve ever read the actual Grimm stories you know that this is pretty hard to manage. The latest of these reimaginings is Hansel and Gretel, which starts off pretty dark to begin with (two children are lured into the woods to die by parents who can’t feed them, witch finds them and fattens them up to eat, and then they burn her in the oven, yeah you can’t sugar coat that).

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters starts the same way, but continues the story under the idea that Hansel and Gretel then developed a taste for hunting witches and are now badass adults doing it. It’s got a bit of a Van Helsing feel, with the old school weapons that are also quite modern looking, but it does generally look like it will actually kick ass.

With Jeremey Renner, Gemma Arterton, Famke Janssen and Peter Stormare, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters will be at least a fun romp with some kickass action scenes and special effects.

Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think! For more movie news and reviews make sure to check out our movie section HERE!

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton is set for a release date of February 7 2013.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Australian and European Limited Edition Announced

Konami has announced that there will be an Australian and European Limited Edition preorder for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. The Limited Edition will include a 30cm figurine of White Armour Raiden, along with a special DLC that allows you to access White Armour Raiden in the game (which will also increase your capacity to carry life-recovery items).

Along with White Armour Raiden there is a choice of steelbook covers and unique DLC. The first cover is an illustration of Raiden by Yoji Shinkawa, the concept artist and DLV that unlocks Inferno Armour. The second is a render of Raiden and has the DLC code for Commando Armour. Either way, they both sound awesome and it certainly looks like it’s worth going in to put a preorder down on Metal Gear Rising if you’re keen on it.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance marks the return of Raiden, who must stop the renegade private military company, by using his ‘High Frequency’ blade and skills. Thanks to an awesome blade there are some truly fantastic action sequences, and I’m sure a lot of you will enjoy being able to play as Raiden again.

To pre-order Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance simply head to your local EB Games or JB Hi-fi and put down a deposit! What are you waiting for?

Halo 4 Launch Takes Over a Country

Xbox 360 has always done Halo launches in style, so it’s no surprise that for the launch of Halo 4 they went all out, however this can almost be classified as beyond that.

The launch of Halo 4 involved them taking the Principality of Liechtenstein and recreating it into the Halo Universe. Fans and media were taken to a secret location before thrust into a war zone, with battle grounds, explosions, sound effects, and amazing set builds. They took a 13th Century castle and redid it as a futuristic military fortification, where guests could be the first to play Halo 4.

Not only that but they took a working mine and turned it into an arena for a sci-fi adventure, with the Master Chief making an appearance amongst the awesome explosives. The countryside became a military camp and battle ground, with props, special effects and the words put into it.

The guests were taken on a two-hour adventure by 15 actors where they had to decode a series of clues to help save mankind from extinction by fighting off the threat of attack.

I don’t know about you guys, but this sounds freaking awesome, and something I am insanely jealous of. I would pay good money to be a part of this, and that is what you want people to think when you hold an event. It was an insanely good effort on Microsoft’s part and if they even put part of that effort into the game then we can expect a very high quality and well thought out game.

Champion Sneak Peek – Zed

0

Those champion crazed kids over at Riot dished out a new champion sneak peek. I introduce to you Zed, the Master of Shadows. Wielding extremely sharp talon like blades, Zed withholds secrets of the ninja to provide a swift kill and effective disguise in the shadows. Did I mention he is a ninja?

Should be interesting how this champion will be incorporated into the Fields of Justice in joining the ranks of fellow assassins. I doubt Zed will remain in the shadows too long during battle, but I could probably assure you many will not live long to tell the tale.

Stay tuned for the next “A new champion approaches… Zed” article for more details.

LEGO Lord of the Rings Release Date and Humor Trailer

While LEGO Lord of the Rings has already been released onto handheld systems, i.e. Nintendo DS, 3DS, and PlayStation Vita, it is still upcoming on consoles.  Slated to come out November 13th for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and PC, the slight wait between the handheld versions and console versions can be filled by the trailer recently released by Warner Bros Games and TT Games.

The trailer isn’t nearly as serious as the original announcement trailer, but focuses almost completely on the humor of the game.  While LEGO Batman 2 showed that LEGO games can have more humor than just slapstick with it’s addition of voice acting, LEGO Lord of the Rings uses, or used in the first trailer at least, dialogue straight from the LOTR movies themselves.  This would likely undercut any ability to follow up in a similar methods of sly jokes from Batman 2, so this time around the humor seems set to juxtapose the satirizing of the story through slapstick and the actual movie lines.  Will it work out?  Hopefully so, as I know plenty of folks that enjoy the LEGO games and are eager for this adventure.

Be sure to check out the humor trailer embedded below and those that can’t wait can buy LEGO Lord of the Rings on handheld today, or wait it out to get it for their favorite console.

Today a large number of screenshots and art work were released which show off the new outfits these characters will be wearing, as well as how they will now be able to use monsters as mounts. It has also been revealed that a mysterious character will appear claiming to be Laharl’s younger sister and she will attempt to claim his spot as King of the Netherworld.
