Square Enix announces new Final Fantasy news at E3 2013…

shinji-hashimoto-troll

Today during Sony’s PlayStation Meeting where the company had earlier announced the PlayStation 4, Final Fantasy brand director Shinji Hashimoto took to the stage. The crowd quieted as fans of the Final Fantasy everywhere began whispering of what the news could be. Could it be Final Fantasy XIII Versus? Final Fantasy XV? Final Fantasy XIII-3? God help us Final Fantasy: All the Bravest 2?

Well it turns out that all that excitement was for nothing, because Shinji stood up on that stage and said to “please be excited for E3 this year.” He could have saved himself some money on a plane ticket and just did a video recording or a satellite broadcast from Japan but hey, least he got to see New York City. Oh well, E3 2013 will see the announcement of a new Final Fantasy game of some sort…

Diablo III to come to PS4 Fully Optimized

Blizzard and Sony have announced a strategic partnership, seeing the gaming giant returning to the console market. Chris Metzen told the audience that Diablo III will be coming to the PS4 fully optimized for the new controller.

There is a huge leap from the complex menus and controls to a console platform but Chris Metzen ensured us that this port will be focused making Diablo III user interface more friendly than the PC version. In particular he highlighted the frustration some PC users indicated they had with customizing your character’s avatar.

Without going into detail Blizzard also announced that the game will be 4 player cooperative without the difficulties of a camera squeezing all characters in the one shot. How this will be achieved was not described in detail but they seemed to be pretty confident that one player could go to town without ruining game play for everyone else. Blizzard is using the tagline ‘One Couch to Rule Them All’ to describe this achievement.

PlayStation 4 third-party support demonstrated via logo barrage

Whenever a console is released, they require a lot of third party support or else consumers will move away from the system. You see, without multiple titles worth playing from everyone’s favorite developers and series.

As such, during their PlayStation 4 presentation Sony decided to toss up an image of a large collection of company logos such as Activision, EA, Square Enix, Namco Bandai, Ubisoft and more huge companies. Also found in this list are a number of smaller Japanese companies such as Gust, Nippon Ichi, Atlus and more. So expect to see plenty of games in the future for the PlayStation 4. No big surprise but hey why not show them off early.

PlayStation 2013: Watch_Dogs on the PS4

Watch-Dogs-Screen-01

Yves Guillemot, CEO and Chairman introduced Watch Dogs creative director Johnathan Morin to lead us into a live Watch Dogs demo, although as mentioned immediately after the conference on GameTrailers, the demo was actually on PC, but the game will look/run very similarly on PS4. We have video of the demonstration to show you below, courtesy of Ubisoft.

The demo was very impressive and showed off many new abilities of Aiden Pearce (not Superhuman of course) as he hacks his way across Chicago. Aiden’s first course of action was hacking an ATM machine to gain some cash before he decides to follow a girl who may have been under threat. Witnessing a potential crime in-action, Aiden could see the chance in percentages that the offender would actually commit a crime above his head and decides to intervene at around 80% as the assailant holds a knife to the girl’s neck.

As he moves on, even more functionality and mechanics are shown. It suffices to say that Aiden truly has control over the city. Check out the video below to see how the demo progresses. For all future Watch Dogs news, stay tuned to Capsule Computers.

playstation-4-announced

After revealing a number of first party titles and showing off a number of third party games running on the PlayStation 4, Sony’s New York City presentation started to wind to a close but before the event ended, Sony had one more major announcement for those in attendance.

At the last few seconds of the show, it was announced that the PlayStation 4 would be available in stores this holiday season. This means that the PlayStation 4 will likely be released sometime between September-November 2013. Currently there is no pricing information or even any release details, nor have there been any images of the actual console itself shown off but at least we now have a release window.

If you thought that Sony’s PlayStation Move would be a thing of the past once the PlayStation 4 was announced then you have another thing coming. Today during Sony’s PlayStation Event, Media Molecule’s Alex Evans went on stage to state how the PlayStation Move will be used for various things on the PS4.

The Move was shown as a sculpting tool, a paint brush and to control dancing avatars and avatars playing various musical instruments. No actual game was shown off but it was done to demonstrate the fact that the Move will be used for the PS4 and that the PlayStation 4 is a creative powerhouse as well as a gaming powerhouse.

Yoshinori Ono Announces Deep Down for PlayStation 4

As he stood on stage at the PlayStation Meeting 2013, Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono reflected on past Capcom series like Street FighterResident Evil, and Monster Hunter.

More importantly, though, Ono announced, in both English and Japanese, the first Capcom game for the PlayStation 4 – a game with the working title Deep Down.

Deep Down looks like a deep, dark fantasy adventure akin to Dark Souls.  It will be one of the first games that will use Capcom’s new Panta Rhei engine.

The announcement trailer featured at Sony’s 2013 Meeting showed a soldier fighting a dragon in gorgeous 3D, and accompanied it with the tag line “Conquer your fear or die trying.”

DriveClub Announced for PlayStation 4

ps4-drive-club-01

In the past, PlayStation consoles have always launched with a racing game, whether Ridge Racer or Gran Turismo.  This time around, a new challenger enters the race.

Evolution Studios, developers of MotorStorm, have announced their inaugural PlayStation 4 title.  With its focus on team-based racing, DriveClub will come to the PlayStation 4 with all of the detail you were wanting from a Gran Turismo game and more.  DriveClub features extremely detailed real-world cars.  The developers even went so far as to model the leather and suede on the interior so the lighting is correct on it.

DriveClub will feature team-based challenges instead of focusing on a set of races.  Also, like a squad-based first person shooter, DriveClub will reward players based on how well they do in conjunction with their club – the online team they choose to race with.  DriveClub looks to be everything Gran Turismo fans could hope for and more.

Keep it tuned to Capsule Computers as we cover the rest of Sony’s 2013 Meeting.
