hanasaku-iroha-release-date-change

Despite being April 1st, some legitimate news actually came out today and unfortunately not all of it was good. Today NIS America announced that they are going to be delaying Hanasaku Iroha ~ Blossoms for Tomorrow ~ Volume 1 Premium Edition for one week.

This means that rather than being released on April 9th the first half of the anime will instead be available for purchase on April 16th. This isn’t too much of a delay thankfully and the release is still available for pre-order now for a discounted price of $55.99 at NIS America’s online store. Also, while supplies last, those who pre-order from NISA’s store will be given a Kissuiso Hot Spring Towel.

Four Decades Later, Shatner Faces the Gorn Once Again

Side-by-Side-Shatner-Gorn-01

More than 40 years (can’t believe it’s been that long!) after the original showdown between Captain Kirk and the Gorn on the Star Trek television series, William Shatner and his alien nemesis do battle once more…in the living room!

The promotional video, which debuted exclusively on Yahoo! Movies, depicts the two re-enacting their 1967 “Arena” fight (complete with couch cushion “space rocks”) after a frustrated Shatner smacks the Gorn on the arm because he keeps killing him in the upcoming Star Trek: The Video Game. The clip is actually a pretty funny, tongue-in-cheek homage to the legacy of the show, all the while promoting the video game – coming out April 26th  on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC – in a natural and unforced manner. I was never a Trekkie, but even I appreciated this trailer and had a good laugh.

William Shatner humorously commented; “It never ceases to amaze me how many people still ask me about that scene.  It’s 46 years later, and he hasn’t aged as well as I have.” The video also revealed the updated Gorn in the game, who will act as a key foe to the legendary team of Kirk and Spock. The video can be viewed at the bottom of this article, and also, directly below is the iconic TV series confrontation.

The Last of Us – Extended Red Band Trailer

The-Last-Of-Us-Screen-10

During the U.S. airing of the huge The Walking Dead season 3 finale, the first TV spot for Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us was shown (and what exposure with potentially over a dozen million watching!)

Now the extended, red band version of that trailer has been released, initially exclusive to the The Last of Us Amazon store page. We have embedded it at the bottom of this article – being a red band trailer, there are some very graphic depictions of violence therein, so be warned. We’ve also included the aforementioned original shortened ad for comparison’s sake, directly below. Enjoy!

Blu-Ray and Manga Bundle for Blood Lad

Blood-Lad-Bundle-Screen-1Coming up is the 10th limited-edition volume of the manga “Blood Lad’ by artist Yuki Kodama, this limited-edition will bundle the latest volume of the manga and a blu-ray disc that will feature an episode based off of “that” manga chapter. The episode that comes with it will be exclusive to that bundle seeing as it will NOT be shown in the upcoming Blood Lad television series.  This is a limited purchase, pre-orders are only open until the 17th of September.

Ok, so, if you don’t know the plot but still show an interest for this let me break it down a bit for you: We have Staz, he’s a vampire and a boss of a section in the Demon World. Cool. Now Staz doesn’t care much for human blood, he’s actually more interested, let’s say obsessed, with Japanese Culture. Enter Yanagi Fuyumi  a Japanese teen who somehow wanders into the Demon World, Staz is pretty happy about this. He goes to meet her but is interrupted by a bit of a scuffle over turf and poor Fuyumi is killed and begins wandering around as a ghost. Staz, being disappointed, promises that he will find a way to resurrect her and that’s where our adventure starts.

If you’re a fan go and check out the “Blood Lad” Summer Anime Promo trailer here.

Viz Media and Diamond Comic partner up to bring hit anime merchandise to North America

diamond-comic-distributors

Today Viz Media has announced that they will be partnering up with Diamond Comic Distributors to help bring various pieces of Japanese merchandise overseas to North America. This includes various action figures, toys and collectables from Viz’s hit titles such as Naruto, Bleach, Berserk, Tiger & Bunny, Death Note, and InuYasha.

The announcement noted that all of the merchandise that is being brought over has never been available for purchase outside of Japan due to various licensing issues, so fans should expect most, if not all, of the merchandise that comes out in the future to be brand new.

Neither Viz nor Diamond went into detail regarding when fans can expect these products to start showing up but it was mentioned that everything will be available for pre-order in future issues of Diamond’s “PREVIEWS” catalog or purchased at your local comic shop.

John Parker, Diamond’s Vice President of New Business Development had the following to say regarding their partnership with Viz:

“From the top entertainment districts of Tokyo’s Akihabara to Harajuku and beyond, many great licensed products from the top anime and manga brands will now be available for fans to purchase outside of Japan. We are excited by the potential and even more thrilled to introduce some of the best-of-Japan merchandise to North American consumers.”

First Trailer for Jane Jenson’s Moebius

moebius-01

There hasn’t been much for news since Jane Jenson’s new studio Pinkerton Road reached its Kickstarter goal for Moebius back in May of last year as they’ve been hard at work on the game. However, they’ve finally put together a trailer to show off the game world and introduce main character Malachi Rector.

A antique expert with a photographic memory and extensive knowledge of history, Malachi Rector specializes in dating antiquities and outing fakes and forgeries. The game however will not follow Malachi on an antiques-centric adventure, instead being hired to utilize his special skills to look into a murder. The job gets complicated however as his talents become useful to a number of different secret agencies and comes across a man in the middle of it.

Currently in alpha, backers from the Kickstarter are privy to its current build to give feedback and makes decisions as production continues. Non-backers can find out more about the game by watching the trailer embedded below and/or checking out the new website for Moebius that just went live HERE.

Moebius will be coming out sometime this year, 2013, for PC, Mac, Linux, and iPad.
