August Club Nintendo Rewards bring out the Hidden Gems

club-nintendo-august-01

To be absolutely honest, I have been a slight bit disappointed with the offerings Nintendo have delivered for Club Nintendo in recent months. Sure, we have received Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario, Super Metroid – and so on, but how many of us bought those games when they first hit the Virtual Console? Nintendo seem to push the popular- which is a smart move, but I prefer the little games I missed out on to show up, as nothing beats a free game that the player has yet to experience.

This month, that is the name of the game as four lesser-tier rewards have shown up, offering titles that may be known, but owned by less of the base that own a Wii or 3DS. For the 3DS, we have Brain Ages Express: Sudoku and Mario Golf up for grabs, and NES Play Action Football (which has shown up before) and Wario’s Woods for the Wii’s service – all for 150 coins each. Sure, they don’t scream to me like Mario or Kirby, but I am digging seeing titles I have yet to add to my collection – even though I know I am alone with that sentiment. Either way, you can download all four of these titles by trading in your gold by September 1st and get that eShop filled up with some gems.

tatsuro-iwamoto-ace-attorneyJapan Expo has announced today that Tatsuro Iwamoto will be attending as a guest during the August 23-25 event this year in Santa Clara, California.

Iwamoto is a Japanese freelance illustrator who is best known as the art director for the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney series by Capcom. He also provides the voice of Miles Edgeworth and Manosuke Naito in the Japanese versions of the games.

The illustrator has said he’s best at drawing “fatherly” characters” but can’t quite grasp the popular “moe”, or cute, girl style that’s so prevalent these days. Apart from working on various other games, he worked for the Clover Studio which is an independent studio founded by Capcom.

Iwamoto will be attending all three days of the event where he will be available for several panels, autograph sessions and interviews.

Dragon’s Crown Set to Head Down Under this October

Dragon’s Crown has just seen release in North America and as can be seen from our review, it is a pretty great game. Unfortunately, other countries around the world aren’t so lucky as to have the release date so soon, but as released earlier it will be coming to Europe this fall and as just released today will be coming to Australia and New Zealand in October.

The release of Dragon’s Crown for Australia and New Zealand will be thanks to a partnership between ATLUS, Namco Bandai Games, and NIS America, so that anyone with a PS3 and/or PS Vita looking to get this game in the southern hemisphere will actually get a chance to. With 6 drastically different players characters, up to four-player multiplayer via local or online play, and 1080p HD graphics this newest game from Vanillaware boasts plenty of great features.

Plenty of treasure to collect, skills to learn, and dungeons to explore Dragon’s Crown has lots to offer for PS3 or PS Vita when it releases in Australia and New Zealand on October 17th, 2013.

SimCity Plans for Expansion onto Mac Reveal New Release Date

Way back in April publisher EA and developer Maxis announced that their newest city simulation game, SimCity, would be coming to Mac on June 12th, but as astute gamers may have noticed it doesn’t seem like that actually happened. In a new announcement however, EA and Maxis have laid out the new plans for when Mac gamers will be able to join in on the latest in the series.

The new date has been revealed as August 30th, so fans that only own a Mac will finally be able to try their hand at playing mayor of a city. And, as stated before those that have purchased the PC version of SimCity will receive the Mac version completely for free, plus both the PC and Mac versions will indeed be connected and allow cross-platform play.

So, Mac fans and PC gamers with Macs will both be able to get SimCity as a digital release exclusively through Origin on August 30th. Unsure about the game, read what we at Capsule Computers have to say in our own SimCity Review.

Help Support Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm

yatagarasu

Crowdfunding seems like the new big thing lately, with many indie developers trying to make the game of their dreams or the games they feel people really want to play that aren’t getitng made by big developers due to constraints present in the industry. If you’re a fan of old school fighting games then this crowdfunding campaign may peak your interest.

Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm is an original 2D fighter heavily inspired by Capcom’s Street Fighter Alpha: 3rd Strike and contains many similar fighting game mechanics such as cancels, special moves and parrys that the player can input through the 6 button architecture. The game will be made available for PC (Windows) and features 8 playable characters, old school graphics, and easily accessible gameplay that is easy to get into but tough to master. The game has heavy eastern references complete with a Japanese theme song, but is fully localised in English also. Check out the trailer below to get a better feel for the game yourself.

yatagarasu-02

Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm is being created by a team of three former SNK/King of Fighter developers and has earned the respect and support of the fighting game community, raising over $57,500 to date. There are 6 days left for the campaign to reach its $68,000 dollar goal. , leaving 6 days to raise the remaining $11,500. As the campaign reached its funding, GGPO netcode was added to minimise online lag,  Kaji Yuki, the voice actor of main protagonist Elen from Attack on Titan joined the game’s voice over line-up, and popular tournament commentators James Chen, UltraDavid and Maximilian came onboard to provide English language in-game dynamic commentary. Fighting game commentary sounds pretty awesome to me and is something I haven’t seen implemented into a fighter before.

If this project has sparked your love for those old sprite based 2D fighters, check out the Indiegogo campaign here to get more information for the project and to pledge your support by offering what you can.

Beyond-The-Boundaries-Promo-Pic

Earlier this year, CapsuleComputers reported about Kyoto Animations plans to adapt the popular light novel Kyokai no Kanata (Beyond the Boundary) into an anime. At that time of writing, no dates were given on when the anime would be released.  KyoAni have recently created the official anime website for the series and announced the anime will be premiered this year in October. Promotional art can be found on the home page as well as a link to the official visual novel site.

The story focuses on high school students Akihito Kanabra, a half demon invulnerable to wounds and Mirai Kuriyama, who is a shunned underworlder able to manipulate blood. Strange things start to occur when Akihito rescues Mirai who was about to jump off the school rooftop. Other characters mentioned on the website are siblings Hirofumi and Mitsuki Nase, who belong to a highly regarded family in the underworld.

The anime website shares similar content with the visual novel website as both contain plot summaries, character descriptions and even links to twitter icons which can be used on your own profile. The anime website also has cast and crew information and a glossary section for those that don’t understand the terminology used in the series.

The LN was written by Nagomu Torii and Illustrated by Chise Kamoi, the series received an honorable mention in the Kyoto Animation Award Competition in 2011 and has had two volumes published. The anime will be directed by Taichi Ishidate, who was involved in many KyoAni projects including Free, Hyouka and Clannad.
