Overview

Have you got some SPACE on your mobile device? Sick of RUNNING errands and just want to chill out and play some video games? Are you excited to hear all my terrible space and running themed puns? Meet Galaxy Run by Spiel Studios. It may not be the most memorable game of all time, but it’s casual, it’s fun, it’s addictive and is currently $0.99 at the App Store. With a catchy soundtrack and an awesome old school feel, this single screen runner is worth checking out if you’re up for a challenge. May the force be with you!

Gameplay

The controls are so simple a baby could play this game, but I wouldn’t suggest giving your phone to that hypothetical baby yet because this game is pretty difficult. Also, don’t trust your phone with a baby, that’s stupid. Galaxy Run is a single screen runner with plenty of punisher platformer elements that I haven’t been tortured with since Triangle Man. Players take control of Rez, an astronaut trying to get home by running, jumping and telling gravity to piss off. Players say goodbye to virtual joysticks and hello to a single tap of the screen to start movement, but once Rez is running he won’t stop until he either gets to the end goal or dies like a turtle in Super Mario. By tapping the screen again Rez will jump over obstacles, and everything else is automated. This can range from grappling hooks to using power ups. It may sound easy, but that’s far from the case as level design constantly gets increasingly hard. What should be commended is how the developers choose to introduce new types of obstacles along the way, with easier levels to let you get used to the new mechanics before going back to insanely difficult. It’s things like this that make every goal seem achievable and stops what could’ve been infuriating hard game into an enjoyable, challenging one. Every level also includes a timer, which continues even after you die. This adds up until you’ve completed the level and will then judge you. If you get three orbs you’ve 100% cleared, if not then you suck. This is to add to replay value and not to keep you stuck in a level as once you’ve completed you’re free to move on. Levels are also short, sweet and fast paced so everything constantly stays fresh while also exciting. A shop is also present with power ups that encourage the standard in-app purchases and if you do well you can also unlock secret levels. I haven’t said a pun in a while so I’ll just end this paragraph with saying that the level design is astronomical!

Audio & Visual

The biggest highlight of Galaxy Run is it’s amazingly catchy soundtrack. Featuring autotuned vocals and various electronic influences, these tracks capture the fun and excitement perfectly, encouraging the player to push forth through the various obstacles that lie before them. Graphics are also a major plus. The retro-inspired visuals are filled with personality and go hand in hand with gameplay. All together the presentation comes across as solid and well polished coming together as a impressive package. One might even go so far to say it’s….out of this world! Yeah I know, I’m terrible. I’m ok with that.

galaxy-run-3
Overall

Galaxy Run is the full package. Pick-up-and-play controls, challenging level design, replay value, fun soundtrack and retro graphics make for a solid casual title that even hardcore gamers can enjoy. The quick, short levels lead to fast and fun gameplay that’s always feeling fresh. That being said it’s held back by the fact that at the end of the day it’s still a really simple title, perhaps at times too simple. The most important thing to say about Galaxy Run is that it’s fun – something many mobile games forget to be these days, and that’s special regardless of what galaxy you’re from. It’s as simple as that.

NOM NOM GAMES ANNOUNCES THE IMMINENT INVASION OF MONSTER MADNESS ONLINE

From The Creator of ‘Dungeon Defenders’ Arises a New Adventure Featuring Seamless Cross-Platform Gameplay in F2P Action RPG Shooter

Gainesville, FL – December 12, 2013 – Nom Nom Games, a newly formed indie subsidiary of Trendy Entertainment, today unveiled its first studio project, Monster Madness Online. Developed by the masterminds behind Dungeon Defenders, this new F2P Action RPG Shooter set in the Monster Madness universe sees the return of four high school slackers who demonstrate exceptional monster-bashing skills.

Developed for cross-platform gameplay across PC, Mac, Android, Linux and iOS, Monster Madness Online is also optimized for Web Browsers and is the first game to utilize “asm.js” technology pioneered by Mozilla where the game’s code is optimized for Javascript to run directly in the Web Browser without any plugin or signup requirement.

The full game release is slated for May 2014, but players can jump into the fray now – December 19, 2013 to help test the cross-platform service technology via the pre-alpha, multiplayer PvP at www.monstermadness.com (Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, and Web Browser only).

The citizens of Suburbia City were caught totally unprepared for the Martian invasion! Harnessing the mystical power of Monster Tokens, evil extraterrestrials sucked all of the town’s adult inhabitants into the Void, paving the way for the Invasion’s second phase, a new Monster onslaught intended to weaken the Earth’s remaining defenses. What these atrocious aliens didn’t reckon on, however, was the Monster Tokens’ inability to affect anyone under 18.

Saved from another hellish day at High School (“Go Wildcats!”), our four heroes — Zack Fowler (the Nerd), Andy Gomez (the Skater dude), Jennifer Sweeney (the Cheerleader), and Carrie Rosenberg (the Goth) — are ready to take back their town from the interlopers. It’s time to team up, gear out, craft some weapons, and get hunting!

BMW M4 Coupé Added to Gran Turismo 6

GT6-BMW-M4-Screen-01

Polyphony Digital, along with BMW, are proud to announce the inclusion of the new BMW M4 Coupé in Gran Turismo 6. Gamers who update the game as of today will have access to it before the car even goes on sale in real-life, next year.

A unique seasonal event featuring the BMW M4 Coupé is also available to players for the following two weeks, as a celebration of this collaboration. The BMW M4 Coupé Superlap challenge will take place on the famous Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit. Up to this point, the BMW M4 Coupé has only been shown publicly as a ‘concept car’, but BMW M GmbH was willing to provide the developers with an unprecedented level of access during its development phase in order to accurately capture the vehicle. Check out the reveal trailer below.

Dr Friedrich Nitschke, President BMW M GmbH, spoke of the mutual respect evident between all parties involved;

It is very exciting to virtually ‘launch’ the BMW M4 Coupé in Gran Turismo 6. The BMW M4 Coupé takes motor sport technology from the race track to the road, and thousands of laps of the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife – the world’s most demanding race track – have readied the new model for that transition. I am very much looking forward to seeing how it looks and feels in Gran Turismo on the same circuit.

President of Polyphony Digital, Kazunori Yamauchi, says its a big source of pride for the studio;

It is always wonderful to be able to bring to life a brand new car and I would like to thank BMW for trusting us with all of the data we needed to create the BMW M4 Coupé at such an early stage. The car is fantastic. I felt very privileged to have a few laps around Ascari during the Gran Turismo 6 launch event and I am sure that Gran Turismo fans will now enjoy the same experience as well as the novelty of being among the first in the world to try the BMW M4 Coupé.

GT6 owners can take the car for a spin on over 37 tracks right now. Stay tuned to Capsule Computers for future GT6 updates from Sony.

Heroes And Villains Unlease The Power Of Rage In “War Of The Light Part I” For DC Universe Online

Heroes And Villains Unlease The Power Of Rage In “War Of The Light Part I” For DC Universe Online
Unterföhring – Dec. 11, 2013 – The European Publisher ProSiebenSat.1 Games and Developer Sony Online Entertainment, LLC (SOE) today announced the next installment in the DC Universe™ Online (DCUO) narrative, War of the Light Part I. Introducing a brand-new storyline, the ninth downloadable content (DLC) pack introduces the Blue Lantern Corps to DCUO and brings a new power set – Rage, which can be used by both heroes and villains. Players will also have access to new Legends PvP characters – Saint Walker and Atrocitus. The DLC will be available for download on the PC early next year.

“Our first DLC introduced Light Powers and allowed players to feel the awesome abilities of the Power Rings employed by Hal Jordan and Sinestro in the pages of the comics,” said Jens Andersen, Senior Creative Director for DC Universe Online.  “With War of the Light Part I, we are adding another light power to the mix, this one fueled by the Red Light of Rage. Rage Powers will have a brand new tanking mechanic for players to master, adding a whole new strategy to group content.”

Added Andersen, “War of the Light Part I will let players explore new and reimagined environments in DCUO. They will notice changes to Metropolis, which has been affected by this new war of light, and for the first time they will journey to Mogo, the sentient Green Lantern Planet, and Ranx, the Sentient Sinestro Corp City. These environments play a big part in the storyline and we look forward to expanding each of them as the trilogy unfolds.”

War of the Light Part I is one of three upcoming downloadable content packs that focus on characters that manipulate power from the Emotional Spectrum. Players can expect to see additional corps introduced by the end of the trilogy.
In War of the Light Part I, lanterns of all colors have lost connection with their emotional spectrum entities. Following cryptic evidence, four Corps – Green, Blue, Sinestro, and Red – converged on Earth determined to find their entities. The clash of Lantern Corps has resulted in a new war of light, centered in Downtown Metropolis and nearby sentient planets Mogo and Ranx. Players must team up with Hal Jordan or Sinestro in high-level multiplayer adventures to investigate the colored mists that have descended upon Metropolis and are affecting the citizens’ emotions.

War of the Light Part I will include:

  • New Rage Power – The game’s 12th Power Set is a product of red light of rage and can be utilized for both good and evil. Heroes and villains who wield the tank power will notice its abilities have a berserker style feel.
  • New 4-Player Operations – Unusual colored mists have appeared and caused a new war of light, centered in Downtown Metropolis, Mogo and Ranx. With the help of friends, including Hal Jordan and Kyle Rayner on the hero’s side, and Hank Henshaw and Sinestro on the villain’s side, players must uncover the origin of the mysterious mists.
  • New 8-Player Operation  – The Green Lantern and Sinestro Corps clash while investigating the mists in this new raid that takes place on Mogo and Ranx.
  • New Legends PvP Characters – War of the Light Part I introduces two new Lanterns – the violent Atrocitus and the agile Saint Walker.
  • New gear and collections.

DCUO’s War of the Light Part I DLC pack will be a free download for the game’s Legendary members and will be available later this winter for purchase by Free and Premium players via the DCUniverseOnline.eu website.
DCUO is licensed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment on behalf of DC Entertainment. For more information about DCUO, visit www.DCUniverseOnline.eu.
