Nagi no Asukara Episode 26 Impressions

Nagi no Asukara
Episode 26 – The Color Of The Sea. The Color Of The Land. The Color Of The Wind. The Color Of The Heart. The Color Of You.

After almost half a year Nagi no Asukara has finally come to an end and it’s been an emotional ride. It’s been beautiful since the start but the show has gone from a curious tale of childhood friends from under the sea to a series that did its best to define love, human feelings and our struggle to carve our own future.

Following on from the last episode, the Sea God has once again awoken after being summoned by the Boatdrift Ceremony. Although Manaka was in danger of being taken again, it was Miuna instead who became trapped at the bottom of the sea where Manaka once lay. It seems the huge focus on Miuna during the second half of the anime wasn’t in vain, as it turns out her character is at the forefront of the final episode.

Manaka’s narration helpfully explains the full story of the Sea God and the Maiden and we actually get flashbacks of the two for the first time. She is brought to the surface and is left with Chisaki and Kaname.

As Hikari tries in vain to break through to Miuna when he finally, somehow, realises the feelings that she harboured for him all this time. He wanted Manaka to fall in love with him when the one closest to him, Miuna, held the strongest feelings for him. In a brief spate of madness Hikari screams for the Sea God to take his ability to love in return for Miuna’s freedom. Miuna’s consciousness realises the truth of the Sea God’s folly and in turn the spirit fire surges forth uncontrollably, lighting up the once-dead Shioshishio.

While everything burns in the spirit of the Sea God, Hikari finally manages to tear through the shield covering Miuna and begins to swim away with her. At this point we’re told the truth of the Maiden. Uroko laughs as he himself realises that the Maiden loved the Sea God, not her former lover, and so had her ability to love taken away by mistake.

Hikari’s father is then seen casually strolling his way towards them and he explains that he heard what Hikari told him about how much Miuna had grown and about Akira as well. With the people of Shioshishio waking up the sea begins to break free of the ice and the waves move once again.

A new sunny day rises and the world is slowly returning to normal only now everyone’s feelings are shining brilliantly. Hikari, Kaname, Miuna and Sayu still need to finish school while Tsumugu is about to head off to live in the city for a short while, with Chisaki seeing him off. In the end, Hikari and Manaka can finally share their love while Miuna has to move on, sadly. It’s OK, she was too good for Hikari anyway.

It wasn’t until the very end until I realised what the whole show was all about. We can only theorise about the bigger picture from this little blue orb called Earth. Despite the challenges thrown our way for whatever reason and without clear answers for many of our questions, humanity still finds a way to do whatever the hell it wants. In the end, we can carve our own path and express our emotions. The complicated love triangle and the way the show made us think Manaka liked Tsumugu, but then revealing that she liked Hikari instead, proves that fate can be changed.

nagi-no-asukara-episode-26-screenshot-06

Nagi no Asukara was a cold yet fuzzy anime. It was a bit overly wordy and nothing happened for a number of episodes, but the romance was probably some of the best I’ve seen in a while. The chemistry between the friends was endearing. Maybe I’m just relieved we got something more than a vacuous imouto show (bless their hearts). Until next time!

Kanojo ga Flag o Oraretara licensed by NIS America

if-her-flag-breaks-promo-artEarlier we learned that NIS America had acquired the second season of Love Live! which many anime fans were expecting, but today the company has announced a license acquisition that has probably caught many of their fans off guard, just like when they licensed the first season of Love Live!.

Today NIS America has announced that they have acquired Kanojo ga Flag o Oraretara and will be releasing it under the name If Her Flag Breaks sometime in the future, but for now the series is being streamed on Crunchyroll on Wednesdays.

I say this is a surprising pick up by NIS America because this isn’t a series they usually go for, however it is certainly a pleasant surprise and it will be interesting to see where things will go from here. Anyways, for those unfamiliar with the series from its light novel origin or manga adaptation, the series follows Sota Hatate who has the ability to see flags above people’s heads.

These flags mark critical moments in time where people can become friends, fall in love, win an event, or even die and since he can see these flags, he has the power to change their outcome. However even with his abilities he soon finds himself surrounded by numerous smitten girls but things are more desperate than they first appear.

Citizens of Earth to be published by Atlus USA

Citizens-of-Earth-screenshot- (8)

You might have heard of the game Citizens of Earth before and there is good reason for that. The developers for the game, Eden Industries, attempted to fund development of Citizens of Earth through Kickstarter but unfortunately they did not reach their goal. However it looks like that dark cloud had a silver lining because today Atlus USA has announced that they will be publishing the game for release sometime later this year for the Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PC.

In Citizens of Earth players will take on the role of Vice President of the World and after the world is plunged into chaos, you must do everything you can to put a stop to this chaos. Players will be able to recruit forty different crazy citizens to help them fight against all kinds of enemies in a very Earthbound feeling battle system.

Hyperdimension Neptunia U detailed as an action game for the Vita

hyperdimension-neptunia-u-teaser-01

After details for Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory II were revealed now we have additional details for Hyperdimension Neptunia U and despite there being a U in the name, Wii U owners shouldn’t be excited. Today, along with a teaser site for the game being launched, Dengeki Magazine scans have revealed new details about the game and the fact that it is being released for the PlayStation Vita and is being developed by Senran Kagura deveopers Tamsoft.

With these scans we know that the game is set to be released in Japan on August 28th and it looks like it will play similar to a Warriors style game with characters such as Noire, Blanc, and Vert being playable characters that can transform into their goddess forms.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory II details revealed

hyperdimension-neptunia-victory-ii-neptune-model

As we already know, Compile Heart is working on a new main entry in the Hyperdimension Neptunia franchise and it happens to be called Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory II. However at the time of the game’s announcement we knew very little about the title.

Well today thanks to a number of scans from Dengeki PlayStation and info from Hokanko we have not only been given a glimpse at how Neptune will look in the next game but also details about the game’s story and how this will not be an actual sequel to Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory which was released last year in North America by NIS America.

In this game there is an adult Neptune that cannot transform into a goddess and she is assisted by not only Uranus Uzume a red haired girl but a number of other girls that have also been revealed. The story will take place in three different dimensions, Zero Dimension Neptunia Z, Hyperdimension Neptunia G, and Heart Dimension Neptunia H.
